Really happy to see you talk about Celeste here and I couldn’t agree more. I appreciate that the game doesn’t ever demean or look down on the player foe repeated deaths or taunt them about the difficulty. Rather it goes the route of actively encouraging the player to keep moving forward and help pick yourself up from a daunting and arduous situation. Which makes actually achieving your goals and succeeding all the more satisfying. Especially considering the really beautiful storytelling about adversity, inner obstacles and maintaining inner peace within one’s self I consider Celeste’s challenge coinciding with it’s gameplay and story to be a really masterful combination.
I don't know why, but when I saw that flower in your artwork, I honestly thought it was Flowey from Undertale. But after you revealed the game it was associated with, I realized that that was too many petals for it to be him. Then I realized that you probably played Undertale waaaaaaaay before 2022.
Its crazy to think about how your turn to die was so good and intense despite not having a line of dialog....lets not even talk about how the sound design and music was so good. Great list tinyleaf
Not gonna lie I just looked at your Google doc and I'm so sad you didn't discuss the beginners guide as that is one of my favourite games of all time. I understand that you couldn't talk about every game on there but I had to mention my love for that game lol, so good.
Beginner’s Guide is one of my most sentimental games since I was first introduced to it about… 7 years ago? It’s one of my comfort games and talking about it would’ve made the video go on too long 😅
Listen as excited as I am for the rewrite, any day you upload is a good one. Loved hearing you talk about these games (especially yttd and Celeste bc HELL yeah) and don't feel bad if you need to make other videos like this or take longer breaks to avoid burnout with the v3 video. Do whatever you gotta do, my dude 👍🏻
Honestly I think Celeste might be in at least my top 10 games of all time. Like you said is really challenging, but it doesn't make the player feel ashamed for getting help, and this is something every game should do. Furthermore, I played the first time while I was going through a difficult part of my life, so the story, which is already fantastic, hit me harder than it would have in other circumstances. And last but probably least, it's a great game to start learning how to speedrun, with all the techniques the game offers you, and it even has one of the greatest modding scene of all platformers, even if 99% the f the maps are ridiculously difficult
Being treated with kindness by the game easily made Celeste so much more special to me. And it made me miss its kindness so much more as I played other hard games this year lol
I’m not sure when the last chapter is gonna be released but it’s still a pretty worthwhile experience to do so now! Especially since spoilers are gonna be a landmine
The Zero Escape and Portal series are amazing. I have so much nostalgia for Portal 2 and it may be on my list of best games ever in my opinion. Also I am curious as to why you don't like Virtue's Last Reward. I do think it's clunky, but I think I'd pick it as my favorite out of the 3 games in that series.
I’m holding any definitive judgment until I beat the game 100%, but a big part of it is characters and visual design. The 2D sprites were so charming and the 3D models kind of took away some of the expressiveness that I loved. (I.e. something like June’s hair curling when she got surprised) And the characters are personally not my favorite. From the routes I’ve played so far, most of the characters just come off as unnecessarily aggressive or don’t seem to have any real presence. The main exception is Luna, who I love because she’s actually sweet to us and I know something about her outside of this nonary game. Sorry if this is a bit rambly, but I am still optimistic my thoughts on VLR will turn around! The first eight hours of my playthrough have just not dragged me in as well.
So I bought The Nonary game one. IM SO MAD. I almost got the true ending on my first try, but it's literally impossible to beat the game first try 🙃 It a great game, I just wish the bad endings weren't so abrupt :(
Crawling out of the woodworks for this one lol. Same thing happened to me, but I like to think of it as less of “beating the game” first try but getting most of the puzzle pieces. But yeah agree on the bad endings. I’m glad you liked it! Don’t play ZTD though.
@@thetiniestleaf it gets better in part 3. Also hope to not sound like that one guy who corrects people but they are called parts not arcs. Just had to say it.
Opening with 90s porn music. Cool choice. Baba is You is such a weird experience for me. In recent times I've become a lot more aware of, like, input to output in game difficulty. So, in some games you can be doing just fine but then suddenly get blasted and die, and in those cases, the input to output is lopsided, you can put a lot of effort and focus in but it doesn't strictly translate to being closer to your goal. And when the goal is binary, win or lose, it's hard to separate a level of effort above or bellow that binary. Games like Celeste are pretty fluid, the more you work at it, the further you get in an attempt as you get the platforming down to muscle memory, and it's not very random. Even once you beat it, you can still do it smoother and faster with more work. Games like Neon White are the pinnacle of this, you do slightly better, you get a slightly faster time in the level, you see the exact value of your hard work 1 to 1 in your level times. Baba is You is like the most polar opposite, you can be staring at a level for 30 minutes and make zero progress towards solving it, and then suddenly notice a thing that might work and win in 30 seconds. So, while it's very clever and a great concept, the level structure just winds up feeling weirdly unsatisfying a lot of the time, and you're often aware that most of the time you spend not figuring it out is wasted until you spot the thing that works, once you get to harder stages. Gotta say, kinda cringe to have the Catherine music without talking about Catherine. Hasn't Vincent been through enough?

Hee hee hee... good taste... well Bugsnax doesn't really seem like my thing but that's neither here nor there.
What is your thoughts on JoJo bizarre adventure?
I've only seen the first two arcs and only have strong memories of the second. But I enjoyed it! Very goofy fun.

Catherine sadly was beaten in 2023 😔 But Vincent deserves more than this
