    Great video!
    Should surgical care practitioners be credentialed against the 4 pillars of advanced practice as SCPs fall under the MAPS structure.

      Thank you Terence. My understanding is that currently (2023) SCPs fall under MAPs and complete 2-3 year MSc that must be an accredited training programme for SCPs. The programme must be accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS). If you're a nurse you keep registration with NMC for non-extended role & you follow RCS professional stds when working in advanced surgical role. After training you're expected to maintain competence defined by RCS. The role is not led by the 4 Pillars as it's focused on RCS stds but you will be leading, educating, researching and advancing your skills as per the 4 pillars. I know a couple of SCPs if you are interested in developing into SCP role who love the role. If you want me to connect you to them to ask questions, just DM me on Twitter or Instagram. I hope that helps.

      Hi Carol, I could do with some help and suggestion please. I also watched your video on SMART goals, again was very helpful.
      I'm currently formulating a PDP using the SMART criteria.
      I have to pick up one capability from each pillar.
      First one is from the Clinical Practice pillar; initiate, evaluate and modify a range of intervention which may include prescribing medicines, therapies, life style advice and care.
      How do I write this up using the SMART criteria

      @@swarajjoye I'm afraid I'm not aloud to help with assignments or capability assessments but I would say keep it simple and related to your role when you apply SMART criteria. Make sure you get assessor/ lecturer to check your plan. Good luck with it.

      Just ask local managers, Matron, clinical educators or education lead, they should know Lorna. Also you should see them advertised on email or on a communication board if there are any running.

      Hi Shella There are a few you can use as references, it is all currently under consultation. You could use this reference regarding the debate in nursing:

    Did the advanced practice start in 1997? If yes then why the role is still not well established nationally ?

    • @carolforde-johnston
      @carolforde-johnston  7 месяцев назад

      The role is used across emoloyers but there is a lack of standardisation currently on banding/role requirements. The NMC is looking at national regulation linked to MSc. the reason for lack of standardisation is the de-centralisation of the NHS and the internal market created in the UK health system in 1990s whereby nurse managers were budget holders and could create job titles.

      In England we also have a new Advanced Practice Centre that has set a capability framework for advanced practice too, which is setting a benchmark for all our ANPs to address the differences between employers.
