    About 2 weeks ago I bought Moving Pictures a direct metal master. And it just blew me away, I heard sounds I didn’t know existed on that album. It’s just simply amazing.

    Wow! I picked up 2112 on blue vinyl several months ago, but I had NO IDEA about the hologram! Thanks so much for cluing me in! (P.S.: Thanks for the terrific video, but you're busting my heart the way you just gloss over Caress Of Steel, which is far and away my favorite album of ALL TIME! Please give that one a chance - if you can find the time to shut the world out, sit down & just LISTEN to this amazing album, I promise you'll be as blown away as I am by it!)
    Thanks again & cheers!

    Great video and we really appreciate it. We’ve heard about Rush’s DMM 200g vinyl reissues and got our first with “A Show Of Hands.” We has gone to our local record store to pick up of another artist’s new release and found Rush’s “A Show Of Hands” but the cellophane was missing. I thought maybe it was used and asked about price. They looked it up and informed me it was new but gave it to me for half off. When we listened to the record, we were really blown away! After hearing that we were sold. We would’ve bought another there but they didn’t have the titles we wanted. So, we took to Amazon and ordered “Moving Pictures” and we’ll receive it tomorrow. We’ll keep you posted. Keep up the great work!-Chris & Beth🎧 #DMM #remasters #AbbeyRoadStudios #RUSH

    New sub. Browsed a few videos today after buying a replacement turntable (not needed). But I think you saved me from giving up as you say in a video a few years back. A little patience and thought and I am right back in the game after diagnosing my user errors after work today on my LP120 (thanks to you sir). I have a fairly large collection that seems to match your tastes which I bought on the cheap in the late 90's when music stores were still a thing. TOWER RECORDS RIP. Look forward to watching you for many more years to come. Craig is the man, MAN! :) I run a ragtag pinball / gaming channel with my friends.

    Honestly, if I had the money, I would get the studio releases up to Counterparts in vinyl. John Rutsey was a stellar drummer and deserves mention. I'm a drummer myself and quite enjoy Working Man & Finding My Way.

    Hey Craig, thanks for making such great videos; I really love your channel. I'm just getting back in to listening to my vinyl, and your channel has be great in helping me along. The most disappointing point of the video was finding out that the blue vinyl pressing of 2112 is sub-par. Thanks for letting me know, I was wondering which version to get (a lot of my Rush Vinyl vanished a number of years ago), and I was excited that there would be a version that was something that could be shown off (like my Hemispheres picture disc, which doesn't sound that great).
    Thanks for sharing your Rush journey. Mine started with 2112 when I was in elementary school. A friend of mine "borrowed" his brother's copy of 2112 on cassette and brought it to my house. As a young Cellist in the school orchestra, I was blown away by the arrangement and complexity of the album. As a budding guitarist (guitar "owner"), I was blown away by the rock musicianship; this album was what prompted me to change to Bass guitar.
    I'm filling in the missing parts of my Rush collection mostly with the DMM versions (available in The Great White North at your local Sunrise Records store). I like the cleanliness of these LPs. They have the life and dynamics you expect from vinyl without that "sterility" we got with CDs. I can't yet compare to older versions of the LPs to hear any differences (as Leon thepro suggests). I can say there are some differences, though. In Hemispheres (side 1), there is a jarring "silence" at the transition point between two of the movements.
    Anyhow, apologies for the long meandering post. Again, I love your channel and am looking forward to future videos. I suppose an in-depth video on knowing when to change your stylus would be great (if you haven't already done so).
    Thanks, and Cheers from Regina!
    Rob.

    • @VinylTV33
      @VinylTV33  5 лет назад

      Hello Rob. Yes, I heard that space between the movements.. oops. Also, on the digital download, which is from vinyl, there's a skip during La villa strangiato.
      With the blue vinyl, if there weren't so many quiet parts on that album, it would be ok.

    • @budmcnelson

    Craig Farraway, man you make great videos ! I didn't know much in the beginning of this year, about turntable setup or how to clean vinyls, styli ect ... . Clearly watching lots of your videos really helped me out and now I'm much better equipped with my records. I can preserve them with good quality inner sleeves and getting rid of the paper ones that actually can cause little tiny debris & scratches on them. My turntable is AT-120 LP and its same one that you have and I love it and use it everyday to preserve my records in high quality WAV files with VM 540 ML/H cartridge. I have learned a lot and thanks a bunch man !!! Your awesome of what you do and love your videos !!! Keep up the great stuff man :)

    I was not into Rush until I met someone younger than me that was really into them. When the CD's came out he gave me all his vinyl Rush albums and some of them were imports. That was back in the 1980's and I still have them. I did buy the remastered Moving Pictures and it definitely was better than the one I had from the 1980's. Thanks for sharing.

I like you never got into rush early on but now love rush. I also have almost every cd of them. I also feel the direct metal mastering reissues sound fantastic. I have some earlier pressings also there good but like you mentioned the new ones play very quiet. I like you hadn’t a clue how to set up my turntable back in the day it’s almost laughable. Hot tip: to preserve your covers keep the vinyl in its sleeve on the outside of the cover at the back. It prevents ring wear, pressure on the spine and general wear and tear each time you take them out.
    You can buy protectors that have two pockets one for the album cover and one for the disc. And the company that makes them is Canadian!!

    Thanks, Craig! I love your videos. Rush is also my favourite band and I am still in mourning, as are most other Rush fans. The blue vinyl 2112 was limited to 5,000 copies, so they are collectible even if they don’t sound as good. I haven’t opened mine yet and probably won’t now (thanks for the warning!). Do yourself a favour - if you stopped at Presto, pick up their last album, Clockwork Angels. I am not a big fan of the mix as it sounds muddy and compressed and all the instruments seem to be competing with each other for dominance in the mix. BUT they re-introduced the high concept and the strong melodies, which seemed to be missing on their newer albums since their 21st century return. The vinyl is currently fetching a high price but I don’t think it is out of print - maybe just out of stock. Pick up the CD if you can’t find the vinyl. “The Garden”, the final song on this final album, will make you cry.

    Hi Craig, I understand that you got turned off by the last bunch of Rush albums. Why is that.? I’ve been a fan since 1980 with Permanent Waves, but I’ve allowed myself to be open to there sounds though out time. I just love “snakes and Arrows and Clockwork Angels”. Even “Vapor Trails” has its merits, it so raw and so appropriate for what the band (Neil) went through. I know that the sound quality was very compressed. Basically I want you to appreciate those albums but you have every right . I love your channel, I’m writing this after the sad news regarding Neil’s death. My take is that we are so blessed to have great music and the ability even listen to it and to have passionate people like you talking about this hobby. Thanks from Montreal

    I have one video suggestion :) Maybe a video about audio conversion with Audacity. How to improve & fix vinyl conversion into digital wav 16 bit or higher if you prefer. (For example like to remove big pops and clicks using the repair tool by highlighting the click sound itself and using the repair tool allows to remove the click, or "TICK" like the a sharp fluctuating zig-zag that can be silenced with repair tool as if it wasn't there) or using any tool to can help folks to make it sound great. You still get the classic sound off course that vinyl has just to take away the nasty sounds that can be removed with Audacity :) I just thought that could be an idea ? Not sure what y'all think of that if that's a good topic or not for those who are converting to WAV. I don't like compressed conversions, just the uncompressed ones because it bugs me knowing that piece of music is being taken away when it can be heard the way its meant to be heard. So, I don't know that just me thinking out loud :) Or maybe its silly topic ...

    Craig, I made a mistake in my comment to you before.... I raved on about the Ortofon 2M Blue cart, but now I reccomend the Nagaoka MP-110 instead of the Ortofon 2M Blue... It's way way better. (And cheaper) Especially paired with the Schiit Mani preamp. Trust me. I actually sold my Blue to get this less expensive cartridge. Out of this world sound-stage! See You Tube reviews. You won't believe your ears... Also looking foreword to your next upgrade video. I think I know what it is. :)

      Hey Randy... No worries. The upgrade was provided by Fluance. I also really love my AT440mla. I think it's probably the best cart I've ever heard. I will look up your cart for curiosity. Maybe one day... :)

      @@VinylTV33 Sorry I asked on another video...I'm really worried and know your and expert. I ordered a red atn-3600 stylus instead of the yellow atn-91 to go on my at-91 cartridge. The specs are the exact same. Is.that ok will the 3600 be the same as the yellow atn-91? Thanks

    I was given a promo copy of Signals on cassette about a week before it came out. My die hard Rush friends and I gathered around my stereo and eagerly listened through the whole thing. Our mutual final verdict was "WTF is this crap?" The beginning of Rush's watershed years. Lost many a fan on that one.

    "Freewill" is a better song than Tom Sawyer. Permanent Waves never gets enough credit. I don't know why. It's such a great album.

    I have always found that coloured vinyl / picture discs always sound like shit... lots of "Rice Crispies". manufacturers have claimed they have a new formulation for the coloured vinyl that gives the same aural qualities as black....I am not convinced. FYI Coloured Vinyl was used ,at some point , so that Radio Stations could tell what genre the new releases were....e.g. Country would have it's own colour, Jazz would have a different, Pop would also be different etc, etc, etc. Record companies would send out the new records so the Radio would not have to listen to everything that came in. The Music Directors could look at the colour and decide if the song was the right format for their station.

    I dont like the sound of DMM records. I find them sounding bright and hard.

  • @leon9021
    @leon9021 5 лет назад

    The originals cut by Robert Ludwig still sound better. The reissues have a lack of low end and dynamic punch, not because of DMM but just the mastering in general. DMM is not necessarily brighter either.
    Some of my black reissues are also clicky and noisy as well by the way, even after RCM cleaning. Worse vinyl used or worn stampers perhaps.

      You have the Back To Black European reissues? that might be the problem. The USA&Canada reissues from 2015 are the ones you want.
