Don’t normally bother commenting on Yt vids but I really do dig this channel. It’s refreshing to have some real ness amongst all of the ‘audiophile’ posturing that’s on here, which I’ll admit I’m guilty of pandering to. Anyway, really entertaining - keep it up, Craig....

    Hi Craig
Loving Vinyl TV here in the U.K. Been watching for a little while now and thought I would say how much I enjoy your videos which has rekindled my love affair with Vinyl once again. As a child of the 60’s it’s great to go back down memory lane.
Hoping to buy a Fluance RT85 turntable when they finally land in the U.K. Thanks and keep making the videos.

Craig, really enjoy your channel. I recently returned to vinyl after several years away. I have about 400 albums that were collecting dust. Finally bought a Fluance RT82, the 85 isn’t in stock, and upgraded the cartridge to a Sumiko Olympia, which I really enjoy. I also started washing all of my old vinyl and what a difference in the noise level. After not playing any of the old albums until I washed them I skipped ahead and played an unwashed one, way different noise level. I am sold on washing my vinyl. Keep up the interesting shows, I watched most of them. Also got the Onzow ZeroDust and like what that does for keeping the stylus clean

I discovered DBX disc through techmoan’s channel and I was so curious I bought a working DBX model 224 on eBay fairly cheap. Unfortunately I didn’t fully understand the requirement of a tape monitor loop which my main system did not provide and I had to acquire, at some expense, a vintage setup to use the dbx feature. As discussed in that video, Discogs has sellers who offer some titles in DBX disc and I’ve acquired 6 records in that format, also at some considerable expense. DBX encoded records are not cheap! I won’t speak to whether it was all worth the money as that is subjective. I will say it works exactly the way it should! No record surface noise whatsoever! My personal favorite in that format is Supertramp’s Even In The Quietest Moments! That one is simply spectacular! Incredible dynamic range and dead quiet between tracks! If you accept the steep price of admission DBX will not disappoint!

    Unbelievable..............
I had the Nikko Beta 20 and Alpha 220. I started DJ'ing with them. Upgraded the amp to a Peavey for more power (couldn't afford the Crown).
The Beta 20 is really decent. Its step attenuator volume is nice. I recently bought the Schiit Freya+ with the even better Beta 40 in mind.

Hey, great to see you again, Craig! That CD changer you have, you might want to check to see, it might have file management, where you can program titles and song of each one of those CDs. Some changers came with an album were you just slip in the cover of the CD case and the slots were numbered so one knew which slot had which CD.
Again, thanks for sharing your great videos.

Good to see you again. My next upgrade for my home stereo is going to be a subwoofer. Probably a 12. When I added the 12 to my cars trunk I was amazed by the sound. Not super power to rattle the car, but good linear response ( around 100 watts). Got a kick out of the upright string bass of acoustic recordings. Sounded like it was right there in front of you. Also when I would play recordings with the sub I would hear stuff I totally missed without it. Lots of low frequency stuff in music these days.

I bought my Exposure Vi, VII & IV Dual Reg pre and power amp set up in the mid 80's and I still have this set up I've not found anything that to my ears outperforms it without costing me big bucks. As my tastes have changed and have broadened my scope of what I listen to the only changes I've made to my system have been the front end with a Project Xtension 10 which I bought for its mix of practicality, namely digital speed control, gorgeous for and finish wood etc but a great arm that works well with Ortofon cartridges. I'm pretty much done with my system bar the amps becoming dead for any reason, hopefully they won't though!.

I sold top shelf audio back in 1979-1980 DBX was an amazing technology in it's day The store i worked in had a DBX demo display people were amazed we would drop the needle on the DBX encoded album you would hear nothing until the first note it would startle most customers, the main setback was no enough music was released. the good old days of audio!

Luckily I had a great dealer and eventually it got worked out. I really liked the dbx type2 on the TEAC though on some types of music.

Good video as always, Craig. What I'd really like to know, though, is what pro gear you used to record back in the 80's, like for "After All" and "Dream on the Horizon". You mentioned a couple pieces of pro gear, but I'm curious about the main gear like the mic you used for the vocals, the audio mixer, the multi-track tape recorder, etc. My son and I love those songs I mentioned, and my son bought a vinyl copy of each from Discogs. These are some beautiful songs, Craig. You should consider doing a repress.

Man, really enjoy your channel, great content! You mentioned that AT-LP 120 usb, and thought it would be great if one of you guys that actually knows a lot about turntables goes in-depth...dj's always talk about its functionality in their understanding of dj'ing pros and cons. Ex: portability, pitch, power of the drive ...but what advantages does it have for the lay-listener? Another curiosity is the claim that one can increase the sound insulation, swap out cartridges and the unit supposedly is just as great as more expensive belt-drive arty-farty hi-fi players? It's all so confusing...at the end of the day does any of this substatively matter? Love the channel☆☆☆☆

Cool video! Loved hearing about your gear!
I also have a Sony Carousel disc changer, Model CDP-CX225! I absolutely love it, but I do have to admit that I don't use it nearly as much as I used to. I have found that it gets glitchy if I have CDs in consecutive slots. It also gets glitchy when it gets really dusty inside. It is a challenge to keep it clean in there! So, I no longer keep all of my CDs inside it. I just choose a number of CDs I want to hear in one session, and put them in specific slots.
I want to check out your live channel this weekend. Is there any way you could do notificatons to remind your subs of your broadcast? Even if I were to tape a reminder to my TV screen, I could easily still forget! (And I don't have a smartphone!)

That would depend on which of the Nagaokas you would match up against the AT 440. The MP 110 would be a very close call against the 440, but the MP 200 would definitely beat the 440.
The 440 is by no means a bad Cart, but I find it to be a bit too much on the bright side. The MP 200 is a very neutral sounding Cart and very well balanced. It is also a tracking champ like the AT 440 and there is no Inner Groove Distortion. I can highly recommend it!!

I currently have a 10 piece set of Tama and a cheap 5 piece, but they are pack away in a room because I live in a townhouse. My current working set is a Roland TD-17 electronic kit, which sounds very good and feels like a real kit. I can play them any time of day or night.

YES..... any intro more than 2 seconds is starting to waste my time. It's the bane of DVD playback.... having to sit through all the production intros just to watch one performance on a concert DVD... i'd play my DVD's more if I could get to a favorite track quickly...……………...

Almost without exception, heavy vinyl sucks. It is a marketing ploy.
Heavy vinyl will often play quietly. That is the only positive attribute it has. Heavy vinyl usually has little to no life to the music. It makes the music boring.
Are there exceptions? Yes. Few things in life do not have exceptions.
Can you find a world class surgeon in a dirt poor country? Yes. But you will have a much better chance of finding one in New York City.
If you want a great sounding pressing, you need know which stampers have a chance of sounding great, and which stampers have little to no chance of sounding great. Heavy vinyl falls into the latter category. Which pressings have a chance of having great sound? Trial and error. But knowing what to avoid (like heavy vinyl) will save you time and $$.
    Cheers!
