    Man, “Whiskey In the Jar” and “Turn The Page” as done by Metallica are two of my favorites...but listening to this after 10-12 years of having not heard it...this is a hell of a cover. Sheesh.

    I certainly love what Metallica did here with Astronomy, yet nevertheless, the original Secret Treaties version shall remain its quintessential recording. Arguably BÖC's masterpiece from the studio.
    Seems to me as James sings the opening verses those little "yeahs" and "ohs" and "ooo's" randomly tosses here and there just come off as a bit amateurish and sophomoric. They disrupt the somber tone and underlining tension that makes the song such a haunting tale. Desdinova (our narrator) is a cold, hard, no bullshit type of character. He knows what he wants and gets it exactly that.
    He tells Susie Dear to walk with him on the beach. Do you think she has a option? Fuck no! If he says jump/ those girls say how high, Sir? That's why the ooo's and awww's don't quite fit. Because (paradoxically) he isn't an emotional soul, though he uses emotion to seduce his prey with elegance and wit right up until he reveals his true nature and the blood lust that compels him. I hope that makes sense.
    So James' tiny add-ins seem harmless but hint that he has a good heart when he needs to have ice in his veins. That's all.
    Interestingly that sophomoric quality somehow helps them sound like kids in a garage band practicing for the Battle Of The Bands at the county fair.
    Other than that, they all just killed it/ skinned it/ made a coat to share, and they wear it well. A little old fashion but I don't care.
    They made it their own.
    I give it three out of five Somalian pirates only because I can't give it 3½

      Ike .. it's highly unlikely that he knew the real meaning of this song to be able to get his "feelings" right here .. it's a very complex song ...

      I agree with you, but I like Jameses adds. It's a cover, and it can't mimic the original feel. IMO one of the best covers ever.

    Terrific original by BOC. Amazing cover by Metallica. James fucking nails shit. Anyone else ever play Arch Enemy's "Pilgrim" after hearing this? That riff is so perfect, I don't care how many times it's used in songs. I'm 38 years old and still wish James was my uncle.

    Blue Oyster Cult !!!!! THE BEST COVER OF METALLICA

  • @Broccoli_Highkicks
    @Broccoli_Highkicks Год назад +1

    Personally, I think this is the best track on Garage, Inc. The Mercyful Fate medley, Whiskey, and Loverman struggle to live up to the originals, and the Discharge and Motörhead covers are just kind of unremarkable by comparison, while the Diamond Head and Misfits covers are solid but nothing more. Turn The Page and Wednesday's Gone are alright, but this track in particular lives up to the spirit of the original Garage Days, taking an already great track and adding a fistful of Metallica to push it to another level.
    I guess the difference between Garage Days and Garage, Inc., is that on the former, they made the songs their own, and on the latter they merely covered them.
    I realize that saying anything that suggests less than blind worship of Metallica is going to be controversial for a lot of people, but my suggestion would be to grow up.
