Returned to a 2017 older bios version in my X556UJ ASUS laptop, and no more heci disabled error nor blue screens anymore. Also i changed some power settings (i suspect some in game crashing was due to overheating) and havent had any problems since then (GPU usage at energy saving mode, and CPU at 80%). @@RyanNoon333 While your BIOS still working, go to your ASUS EZ Flash 3 Utility and go through your fs hard drive to look for the current BIOS. If you find the current BIOS file, click on it to reinstall it and that's it. If you don't have it on your PC, then download the file off from another PC to your USB. Once you did that, then plug it up to your PC and use it but be very careful while trying to do this or your PC might mess up.
Dude, thanks so much for this tutorial! I just spun up an Unraid build with an ASUS PRIME X470-PRO and a GTX 1650, but was jumping through hoops trying to get GPU passthrough working in a Windows 10 VM. I didn't realize that this board came with a BIOS just a few months old that broke VFIO, causing the GPU to get stuck in a D3 state when trying to start up. Flashed back to a pre-Ryzen 3 release and now Plex is transcoding using hardware acceleration without issue.
This completely bricked my motherboard, using a z390-a prime and have absolutely no way of booting into bios. Have tried unplugging all drives, resetting CMOS, installing bios update to usb and plugging that in but nothing is working. Anyone know what i can do?
THank you A WHOLE BUNCH MAN!!! I come from the x299 series motherboards, where asus skimped on the mark 2 version having no flashback on it, and as I was updating it just i ncase , it came out that the latest bios tuned for the lastest x core series cpus messes up cpu temp readings making them 5 degrees more(not the actual temp but just what displayed) for the first gen x core(7900x etc). !!!
Hello ED WST I have an Asus X299 TUF Mark2 (with I9-7900x processor) where it's impossible to flashback bios. I have upgrade bios to version 3006. This bios is buggy and my computer didn't boot now. 6 days now I'm pulling my hair out of my head. I was very hopeful about this method and at the beginning it was working. Let me explain: I got exactly same result as in this video. - Reading flash 0 to 100% - Erasing All Block 0 to 100% - Updating All Block 0 to 100% - Verifying All Block 0 to 100% C:\> No error, everything seems ok. But after reboot I see the bios didn't changed, still 3006. I tried by converting 2002, 1902 and 1503 .cap files to .rom files, didn't work anyway. I don't understand. Afudos has completely erased the cmos and nothing has changed? It's not possible, it makes no sense. It means Asus put the last bios in another chip and restore it? Please help me.
Thank you for posting this video. Your tutorial was essential for me to successfully downgrade to stable version 3610. Now everything is working perfectly! Thank you very much!
The problem that occurred in the usb of this motherboard with the bios version 3805 at least with me is that at a certain moment when there is a transfer of files via usb, the motherboard simply seems to cut off the usb power and the transfer rate drops to zero. After a few seconds, she transferred the data again. A very bizarre problem in my view that did not occur with other previous BIOS versions of this motherboard.

I dont usually comment but felt I must as this legitimately works. With the recent asus bios update to the Hero Maximus X, downgrading the bios through normal methods was no longer possible. Just follow the steps and restart you computer at the end (missing from video). You will get an updating bios screen, a couple of restarts and Voilà!
Hoping this works. Updated BIOS because I was a few versions behind and now my RAM is unstable using DOCP. Edit: Didn't go. Huh, back to the drawing board.
After updating my Asus ROG 702VM gaming laptop to bios version 310, it doesn't boot anymore. Can't enable CSM. Did all what you said. I want to go back to bios version 306. Please help
If you're fiddling with BIOS options, unplugging the power cord and crossing the CLRTC jumpers (Clear RTC RAM) is your friend. Your systems aren't likely bricked my friends. Just touch a knife blade or screwdriver to those 2 jumpers. I do it all the time when I'm really messing with stuff like this. In fact, I had to do it to go from 2501 to 1201 with my X470-i. It happens when there's deeper settings (usually memory timings) that need reset to defaults. You'll also need to do it with AMD systems when you change the CPU fan, or you'll get weird fan speeds, or have it randomly stop completely on you, unless you do it.
I have the same issue. USB boot starts the process correctly. After "Reading flash" gets to 100%, it gives me the error message about file size does not match bios size. Any ideas?
@@imightbeageek932 I have been following this video since 2018 and it works as always however like I mentioned above, newer bios update 3xxx doesn't let you downgrade and if you try you get a black screen. A lot of the comments seem to be mentioning the fact that this has bricked their motherboard despite following the steps perfectly: please only risk following this tutorial if you can afford to buy a new motherboard in the event of it being bricked.
Thank god you're a genius dude !! thank you a lot your video is still helping ppl in mid 2019 !
Thx a lot mate! Very helpful! 🙋♂👍
Worked for me. Asus z170-p motherboard. Needed to flash back to old bios so i could flash modded bios for blck overclocking i5 6500. Good Job! Thanks!
Error: proglem getting flash informstion
What do you do if it isn't a cap file but a 310. file?
Just rename it to a .CAP file! I'm serious.
Worked well, had to do a couple things differently, but great tools and a great help. Appreciate it, man.
Thanks for great tutorial :
Now running 9600k on Asus Z270 STRIX F ... AWESOME BRO ..
Hi there. I did the tutorial step by step and i got a succesfull flash. But i choosed a very old version of my mb bios (an asus prime a320m-k) now my System is completely dead. No boot nor signal of life. I think i should have chosen a more up-to-date bios version then my mb wouldnt have bricked
Redownload the BIOS that you had before from a different PC and update the BIOS again from your hard drive or USB on your current PC.
@@TwcFan your answer comes a little bit late (1 year late to be specific). I already threw the mobo to the trash. There was no way it will revive again. But thanks anyway for your answer (i guess), better late than never...
@@demg8410 You're welcome! I also thought my PC was messed up until I found out what the problem was. The BIOS was corrupt, and I was able to fix it.
Flashed 6401 bios on the Crosshair 6 hero using this method. Worked on the 1st try👍
Had the same problem and it worked!
I did every step and the process but after that I reset my PC and got a black screen, Cmos reset not working.
Здраствуйте. Как вы решили проблему ?
This instruction helped me update the BIOS on the asus prime a320m-k motherboard. I needed to install a new processor, but the current BIOS version did not support it, and the new BIOS version would not install with the old processor.
you are a GODSENT. thank you so much for this tutorial. it was clear and easy to follow. worked perfectly! :)
F for those that downloaded the wrong bios and bricked their Motherboards
Tweety I think that’s fixable
just happened to me :'(
The Same thing happened to me too, and I was able to fix it.
@@TwcFan how did you fix it?!?!?!
You sir have just saved a expensive piece of equipment. 👍🏽
Excellent explanation. Very understandable. It worked flawlessly on the asus B350 plus. Thank you very much
This completely bricked my motherboard, using a z390-a prime and have absolutely no way of booting into bios. Have tried unplugging all drives, resetting CMOS, installing bios update to usb and plugging that in but nothing is working. Anyone know what i can do?
Как вы решили эту проблему?
Saved my 4.2Ghz 6400 from being bricked at 2.7ghz after accidentally updating BIOS. A true scholar and a gent!
Flashed z170-e from 3180 back to 0050.
Hello ED WST
I have an Asus X299 TUF Mark2 (with I9-7900x processor) where it's impossible to flashback bios.
I have upgrade bios to version 3006. This bios is buggy and my computer didn't boot now.
6 days now I'm pulling my hair out of my head.
I was very hopeful about this method and at the beginning it was working.
Let me explain:
I got exactly same result as in this video.
- Reading flash 0 to 100%
- Erasing All Block 0 to 100%
- Updating All Block 0 to 100%
- Verifying All Block 0 to 100%
C:\>
No error, everything seems ok.

After updating the BIOS of my Asus B150 Pro Gaming / Aura to version 3805 in 2018, i started to experience problems low performance using on USB 3.0 and I was looking for a way to downgrade to version 3610 that was Working perfectly!
Thanks man! So good! Works perfect for me, i will only have to say that your voice need more volume, almost cant hear you, but really help me, thanks again!
Thank you very much for this video.
It will help a lot.
People are struggling due to incorrect BIOS's.
Memory management, etc., etc.
i did everything you did, but now my pc wont boot, it shows no image so i cant go into the bios, ive already tried shorting the cmos and it still doesnt work. i think i have to buy a new mobo
how do u fix this
I dont usually comment but felt I must as this legitimately works.
Please help
I followed every step, and it end sucessufuly. But now my PC doesn't post or shows any image. I'm sure the bios file is the correct one. Any ideas?
i’m having the exact same issue, did you find a solution?
Worst mistake I made was following these instructions. Bricked my Asus board. Nothing but black screen now and unable to POST.
Drew Phillips then you don’t know how to follow instructions. Don’t blame other people for your mistakes
This doesn't seem to work on an Asus MB if you are trying to roll back the BIOS to earlier versions.
Love u man! z170 pro gaming downgraded perfectly
thanx for the video and files, this did the job, thanx a lot!
dude you're a legend, just wanted to confirm that this works on a 'Prime H270-Pro' board

Rom file size does not match existing bios size error message. Help :(
I have the same issue. USB boot starts the process correctly. After "Reading flash" gets to 100%, it gives me the error message about file size does not match bios size. Any ideas?
This used to work but new update of March 2021 causes black screen and it is a permanent damage you will have to buy a new mobo
lol... What update... you are flashing HARDWARE... if your HARDWARE is compatible it will work...
@@imightbeageek932 I have been following this video since 2018 and it works as always however like I mentioned above, newer bios update 3xxx doesn't let you downgrade and if you try you get a black screen. If you got any leads on how I can fix my motherboard, I would be highly appreciate it. Problem: Black Screen, a single beep, rig running normal but no display at all. I have tried plugging the HDMI from GPU to Motherboard as my CPU has integrated graphic but to no avail. Tried RAM method but still useless. Even CMOS method doesn't work. It seems that even recent users are facing the same issue.

@@leandrowagner2853 What model is your motherboard? On some motherboards to update and flash the process is different. especially when support for am4 is added because they end up removing support for some A series processors
@@leandrowagner2853 This process worked for me. You have to download the bios from the page and with the process indicated here and with the A10 cpu do the update. Once finished, change the CPU for the Ryzen and it should turn on normally. Just in case, make a backup copy of the old bios before doing any process like this.

I had to re-do the entire process a few times because for some reason the USB wasn't showing up sometimes whenever I rebooted to BIOS not sure whether that was due to settings in the BIOS itself or the fact that the BIOS was Version 3503 Beta Version so I reverted it back to Version 2801. Thank you very much again for this tutorial it is much appreciated!
Thanks! I have an Asus H81M-E, but the BIOS was using the H81M-A. I needed to update the firmware to solve problems, but could not by official methods. Your method is the only one that worked.

Thank you soo much!!!!
It worked perfectly on my Asus B350-F Gaming with ryzen 1700.
I was stuck with the latest bios and it was causing my monitor to flicker black , couldnt downgrade bios and version and your flash method worked.
Im back again at 4024 that is the most stable for me and ive used it for 2 years without any problems and i got the best OC out of it.
If your BIOS file doesn't have .cap extension, if it has something like .306 instead of .cap (306 is BIOS version), then you just need to rename it as .cap file and follow the steps in the video. ;)
I tried that (310.), but it still won't let me extract the body.
Didn't work on my PRIME Z390M-PLUS
