    I really have to thank you for this very helpful tutorial. By your instructions i was able to repair my UEFI on my ASUS Z97-P Board. After i installed Vanguard (an anti cheat protection measure operating on windows kernel level for the recently released game Valorant by Riot) my computer was not able to display any video output or to power usb devices. my last option before buying a new board was to reflash the bios which surprisingly actually worked.

      @@tdkxbalor9397 yea of course but the german riot support didnt bother. Seemed like they were too incompetent to understand the issue. Their final answer was that it simply is not possible for vanguard to corrupt a bios. I even wrote to some famous tech youtubers like ltt but never got a response. So afterwards i swore to myself to never install that bullcrap of a game ever again and thats that.

    I wonder would just reseating the flash IC have worked? That type of IC socket is low quality and inclined to cause poor connections when a bit of corrosion forms between the IC legs and the socket contacts (and the IC legs did looks a little grubby). Unless the contents of the flash had somehow become corrupt, its hard to see how a previously-working motherboard would suddenly stop working in a way that would require a BIOS upgrade to repair. Still, its interesting to see the procedure - thanks.

    • @rdagger
      @rdagger  5 лет назад +1

      Great point! I should have tried reseating first. If I had not already returned the computer, I would test your theory. Thanks, I will make a note on my website write-up. Regardless I would still make a backup of the existing firmware while the chip was out to ensure copies of the relevant BIOS fields.

    • @rdagger

      It doesn’t sound like a damaged bios. It could be a lot of things but since it happened during a Windows update (I assume that is what you meant by update), it is probably a partition problem. I’d get a Windows 10 media USB drive (I assume you are using Windows 10) and try the Repair your computer option. Under System Recovery Options choose Command Prompt. Run diskpart and make sure the correct partition is activated. Afterwards run bootrec /rebuildbcd. If that doesn’t completely fix the problem, it will hopefully get you to the point where you can run System Recovery Options - Startup Repair. This is a relatively advanced repair and my suggestion is only a guess. I am not a Windows expert. You could lose data!

      You might be able to get the MAC address from your router logs or it could be printed on a sticker on your network card. You can always make up a MAC address using an online MAC address generator (just google it). Serial numbers are often on the motherboard or the case depending on the brand. I suppose you could just create a new serial number and system UUID although it could cause some licensing issue with existing software on the computer.

  • @Görkem-x5h

    what would happen if you leave the uuid and serial number blank? If we must enter those values then can we enter random values or spoof them or find them somehow perhaps?

And I want to change the logo of the bios. I have used Aptio_V Afuwin to do the bios Backup, then I change the logo with AMI ChangeLogo Tool v5.0.0.2 and everything seems perfect. But when you restart the new logo appears ok. But it automatically enters the bios, appearing a new option RECOVERY, ROM LAYOUT MISMATCH DETECTED - PARTIAL UPDATE IS NOT ALLOWED. If I give ESC it enters windows without problem but always enters the BIOS first, any idea how I solve that problem. Thank you very much for your help.

    This video has been very informative, so I thank you for this!
    I was wondering, do you think it's possible to modify the BIOS to add back CSM? :)

      I think it's possible but challenging. I'd post your question to the Bios Mods forum: www.bios-mods.com/forum/

      I recently flashed a bricked NVR. Although I had initially planned to create a video, I later discovered that there was a more user-friendly bootloader option available. Thanks for your comment!

    Hi!! I have a Sager NP9870 (Clevo P80DM-G). When I bought it, years ago, it came with just one GTX 980M. So now I bought another GTX 980M in order to make them SLI. I asked for them to send it with 1617 ID but they sent me with 13D7 ID. So I couldn’t flash it right with the vbios from the older one using Nvflash. I forced with the Nvflash mismatch version and the bios chip got really messed up. So I bought spares from the same chip (MX25L2006EZNI - 12G) and spare one from the older plate (25Q20BT) and ended up dessoldering the chip from the new one and putting a 25Q20BT in the place (with the vbios from the older one flashed inside using CH341A SPI flasher). When the new 980M arrived, the notebook didn’t even started if I put it in the master slot. Now with this modification, it goes to the windows all right but I don’t get image (not even through HDMI). So the idea here is to have both cards with the same vbios and ID in order to make them SLI. The notebook bios recognize both cards but the windows just the older one (with the 1617 ID). What can I do to make this work as SLI? I have my notebook with windows 10, both cards (the 1617 one is already inside of course), SLI cable, both heatsinks and even that cooper plate that was hard to find (I have the two necessary units). I have the CH341A SPI flasher and adapters to use the right voltage. And I have a couple units from both chips (MX25L2006EZNI - 12G and 25Q20BT. The 25Q20BT is so much easier to solder and it is the same model that the older plate uses. And I tried a lot of the drivers version from Nvidia and nothing, even cleaning with DDU. Would you help me to make it work? Appreciate it and thanks in advance. I really hope you can guide me to get there and I don’t think I’m that far away!!

    So I tried flashing my MSI Gaming 7 z97 Motherboard from version 1.8 to 1.9, accidentally pushed on the power cable for the GPU and now it won't display anything, won't post, will not go past F2 debug code. Any way to fix it? I'm thinking that the bios chip or a memory module went bad or that I bricked the motherboard. I powered the system off, switched to bios B and it went through the same thing. I updated Trainz 2019 from regular to Service Pack 2, rebooted the system and it turned on and turned off well before I tried to update Bios A. The Gaming 7 msi motherboard uses UEFI or UEFI/legacy

    If this problem of repeatedly rebooting occurred on a computer that was already a few years old, most people would replace the computer with a newer model. Most people would not think that they need to reprogram the firmware.

    Would it be possible to create another one where the software release is not .CAP anymore?
