Very well done, nice review of your gear. What was the one thing that you brought with you from Estonia that you were most glad that you didn't leave at home (besides your wonderful mom)? Stay safe out there. Cheers.
I have to say that the snacks really killed it on the trail. We brought some high-calorie and tasty granola bars, energy gels and some stuff more and I really enjoyed them. Otherwise we would have eaten only Snickers bars and simple cookies on the trail and I do not like Snickers that much... Yes, the snack choice in Nepal is really limited.
Its always fun to reflect over what gear one actually ended up using, and from there on keep progressing as an outdoor person. ^^ Very fun, I enjoyed this!
That review of your gear was so well done. I liked how you put it all on the bed and removed the items as you went along. Thank you to you and your wonderful mother for sharing so much of your trip with us.
Greetings from Wisconsin, USA... Love your videos. I so much enjoyed watching your adventure. It was great that you and your Mom were able to do it together.
I discovered your channel about two weeks ago and I've probably seen something like half of your videos. Your english is quite good; you have a large vocabulary and your sentence structure is excellent. You also have very good presentation skills with good pacing and information density. You also seem to have a good instinct for the type of commentary and visual content that will be relevant, revelatory and entertaining to your viewers. Could you describe how much effort you typically put into planning ahead what to say for a video?
Thank you so much for these kind words and the feedback! It is so great to hear that you notice the little details and the work I put behind this. When I do these sit-down videos I usually write down what I want to say and then follow the script during filming. With this gear review video I didn't script anything because the gear sort of guided me thru the video. But i take time to say things multiple times and then when editing I select the right parts because English is not my mother tongue and I do mess up a lot :)
Consulting the doctor for tips on medicine for the region is not some thing i would think of, getting vaccinated yes but not the not medicine. Good tip! And you have a Cool MOM! Never to old to explore the world!
Thanks for the great video, it helped a lot. We are going to hike Annapurna Circuit end of october and thanks to your help we won't miss necessary equipment. And as others have said: cool that you hiked with your awesome mom.
I can tell you really put serious thought into what you carried on the hike. From your videos it appeared to work well and you were very comfortable most of the time. Thanks for the videos !
Thank You for that very informative video. In addition, I carry a sewing kit, military cord, military type duct tape, several candles a Swiss knife, a larger knife, a pocket saw, a hatchet and a mini shovel/entrenching tool.
Your Annapurna Circuit videos are really great job! Thanks for those Annapurna gear tips! We're looking forward for new Estonian (or another country's) adventures).
Hoi Maiu, I finished the last movie of your Nepal adventure.. It's great to see how you and you mum enjoy the trip. You are really a inspiration for hiking, to see the pleasure.. The fun.. It's great! Awesome really ☺️☺️😄😄👍👍 I hope to see more nice videos from you and lovely dog. Mutch succes in everything you want to do in your life ❤️👍👍
Impressed with your planning, organisation and efficiency - travelling to/from Estonia, trekking 186km, taking in some sights...all with only 7kg of stuff in your backpack :) Also some good purchases in Kathmandu for very small cost. Interesting and informative. Thank you.
Thanks so much for sharing this! I have a big list of stuff to take on my trip on the Annapurna circuit now :) I particularly appreciated the detail you went into.
I was just going to reply to your previous comment and direct you to this video but I see you already found it :) I'm glad the video was useful to you!
Very nice insight into your gear! Thank you! I'm planning on doing one of the long trails here in Austria this year. From Vienna to Salzburg. Not in one run, but like you did back home in Estonia. Sections of 2 or 3 days in a row. Sleeping out in the woods. And I'm really looking forward to that! As soon as the really cold weather conditions are over for this winter I'll get started. Nice thing about it: the first section will end just a few hundred meters away from my home. And the second I'll start exactly there. :-) Take care, both of you! And once more: you're heroes to me! To do this trail all on your very own! You do have my deepest respect for doing that! All the best from the "Vienna Woods", Chris
Excellent information! I would like to recommend a pack to replace your day pack, it’s called Venture Pal. It’s an actual pack with pockets that folds into itself. It weighs 7oz. I got it from Amazon, it works great.
I'm glad you and your mom made it through safely. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I think you lost some weight and btw your hair looks nice. Thanks again Maiu you and your Mom rock!
On longer trips, in prefer bar soap to liquid. It last longer and weighs less. I also carry two tarps, one of them is also.a space blanket that has aluminum on.one side, that keeps me warm in camp or in emergency situations.
Really well done. You have done a video before your trek and another after completion, that was really helpful to have a complete idea about relevant gear. One thing I would like to ask, is it really mandatory to have sleeping bags? Actually, I plan to carry 40L Backpack and to keep it light.
You can wear shorts in Nepal, we don't have any restrictions with the culture so, if you travel next time then make sure you feel comfortable and wear shorts.
Hallo. Thank you for your great videos. Next week, I'll do the Annapurna circuit. It'll be my sixth time in Nepal :-) Each time, I take a complete medicine bak with me. At the and of the trek, I give the non used medicine to a orphanage in Kathmandou. There are nearly no realable médicine to buy there and so, it helps the children there.
In the nights where you felt cold in your sleeping bag do you know what the air temperature was? Did it get colder than -5C or -10C? Thank you again for doing a great review of your gear.
Yes, in higher altitudes the nights were definitely freezing, probably around -5 to -10 degrees Celsius. Buy we didn't have a thermometer with us and I do not know exactly.
Hi, what pack weight were you, and your mum, carrying? Why did you not get a porter oand/or guide? Have loved the series on Annapurna - I've done EBC - and plan to do this one in Sept/Oct.
My base weight was around 7kg, my mother's bag was a bit heavier. We didn't hire a porter or a guide because the trail is well marked and there is plenty of information about it online. Also the teahouses make is really easy to hike without a porter as well, you don't have to worry about food and shelter!
Such a good idea to show the gear you both used and what was useful/what was not, thanks for this, thumbs up! I have a couple of questions if you have time: I am wondering what was the brand or model of that warm puffy jacket your mum wore? Also did you hang underwear to dry from the pack as well or would have been a bad idea because of the culture? Lastly I would be really interested to know what the medications were the doctor suggested for the trip in general. Congratulations on on completing such an epic trip, looking forward to your next hiking adventure!
It was a Montane jacket but I unfortunately couldn't find the model name. We did hang our underwear to the pack but we hung a bandana above it so it was covered :) I will maybe do a video about the medicines and general health topics on the trail, it's too long list to write it here.
I have hung socks on my pack on week long trips but was wondering about how to do underwear without making the photos seem weird lol using a bandana like this is a great tip! I don't think we have Montane in Australia, it looks like a good brand, thanks for the reply. I always enjoy hearing other peopels tips and tricks :)
No, we didn't have to use the pills as we always filtered it. The filters do not remove viruses indeed but we didn't have any problems with water anyway. I guess that's just the risk to take :) And when eating the local food you are still quite open to getting different stomach problems because they use the same water without filtering the water first and not all foods have been boiled (just washed). So in my mind using the pills all the time wasn't justified when we had the filtering option.
Good thinking. Still, you are fortunate you had no problems. I get the Dehli Belly in most developing countries I travel too, even if the water has been filtered, boiled and pilled all at the same time! 😊
Hi what a great review so good to see something from real experience really great job. I was very interested in the quality (and warmth) you stated about your moms puffs jacket and I was wondering if you would share the brand and model to me please?
Yes, my mum had some issues at the beginning of the trek but she recovered quite quickly within two days. I was quite obsessive about washing my hands and always drinking filtered water and I fortunately didn't have any issues. But it is a very personal thing, some people are more receptive to these stomach problems.
There is a little green eyed yellow idle too the north of Kathmandu, And a little wooden cross beneath a hill, Where liyes the body of Mad Carue, They called him made Carue because he had the feever in his eyes, But he was worshipped in the ranks, And the Colonels daughter loved him to. ect, I think the poet was Rudyard Kipling, Over.
How was the humidity on the trail and how did you deal with it? Did you sleep outside at all or only inside lodges? The reason why I'm asking is this: There is a saying "Cotton kills": When Cotton becomes wet, it holds the water. Better to use wool that deals with water better. That down bag has the same problem as wool, when it becomes wet, it compresses and loses it's heat protection properties, can be rather dangerous. I got 100% synthetic bags that can be washed anywhere without special equipment. As for water filters, most hikers modify their filter to be gravity filters you just can hang up in a tree and it will deal with the water over time so you can focus on other things. It is also good to bring a meter (or so) of duct tape so you can repair things like the syringe. Put it on something thin like an old credit card and put it in a waterproof place. Looks like you did good research before you hit the trail.
First two days on the trail and the last one was in warmer climate and thus a bit more humid but we always slept in the lodges (as everybody is doing because it is very affordable and comfortable) so we didn't have any issues with that.
Very well done, nice review of your gear. What was the one thing that you brought with you from Estonia that you were most glad that you didn't leave at home (besides your wonderful mom)? Stay safe out there. Cheers.

You have the greatest mum in the world!!! I'm so happy that the two of you hiked together.

You and your mom achieved your goals.
I am glad to see your gear review !! :)

Well, I have to say that most of our sightseeing was done after our trek and then we bought some stuff to make ourselves more comfortable 😀
Thanks so much for sharing this! I have a big list of stuff to take on my trip on the Annapurna circuit now :) I particularly appreciated the detail you went into.
I was just going to reply to your previous comment and direct you to this video but I see you already found it :) I'm glad the video was useful to you!

:) this was very helpful, i'm doing the trekking this october (i'm also a sketcher)!
Good luck on the trek!
good job ladies what a once in a life time trip. You should consider doing some instructional videos on your water color technic

I looked it up and it looks great! Not very expensive either. Thanks!

Most teehouses will have blankets that you can use, i would reccomend bringing a light sleeping bag or at least a sleeping bag liner with you!
Thanks for all the info. Very nice of you.
What's next?
I have something big in mind but I will not announce it yet. Will tell you when the plans are more in place :)
Good job !! loved the hike. keep it up
Well done, I'm jealous, but I'm going to Ireland this summer on a hike.
No need to be jealous, the world is open to everyone ;)
Looks like a great trip!
thanks so much!! youre a sweetheart and this was so very helpful xoxooxo
much respect to you both
You can wear shorts in Nepal, we don't have any restrictions with the culture so, if you travel next time then make sure you feel comfortable and wear shorts.
Thank you for that information! I read the shorts thing from some book but maybe it was outdated or just wrong.

What time of year did you go?

It was a Montane jacket but I unfortunately couldn't find the model name.
Could you put all the videos toghether in one long video?
I think I will! Thanks for the suggestion.
A playlist works well and naturally for a series like this. Most RUclipsrs fail to make good use of them.

I feel really sorry to correct you but wearing shorts is fine . Don't know who told you that thing but girls wear shorts here .
Thank you for that info! I don't remembers where I red it but it good to know that it's okay!
