This was the first Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie I ever saw. It's amazing I decided to watch the others after I saw this. Oh well, at least I got to learn about extreme body modification at the age of 9

Same. This was the first one I saw as a kid too and I really enjoyed it (still do) even though I was aware of the previous movies I had no interest in them until I got a little older. Maybe it's nostalgia but I actually prefer this one over the original one from the 70s. Hated the 2003 remake though.
This is my cousin's favorite. She loves McConaughey, I don't have the heart to tell her how he hates this film
how is this diferrent from his other roles like Killer Joe or that car advertisement where he kills people with his poor acting?
It is okay to like horrible movies but I like a movie that has a day for night shot so my opinion might suck but Mat is the best part of this movie

OK I don't think she saw the first sequel, "Just like every TCM sequel this one is attempting to reboot the series by pretending the other movies didn't happen" ???! I mean the third film did that but In the second Movie Denise Hopper's characters soul motivation was to avenge the deaths of his niece and nephew from the fist film, they even have a skeleton in a wheel chair to reference the character and they got the same actor (Jim Siedow) to reprise his role from the first film in the sequel so I strongly don't believe she saw it.
Pretty sure she just meant that every sequel is basically a Part 2.
Darla was the best part of the movie.

For all the good it does to "Um Actually" an old review, and loath though I am to defend anything in TCM4, my devotion to Leatherface demands that I mention he did dress like an old woman in the original film.

I would argue that the most simultaneously horrible, hilaious, and confusing movie ever made is Raiders of Atlantis (1983) (also known as Warriors of Atlantis, Atlantis Inferno, Predators of Atlantis, and The Atlantis Interceptors)
There needs to be some kind of award for giving it your all acting, cuz Matthew M. kinda needs one. I’ve never seen an actor go that all in for something so weird since Mark Hamill in Last Jedi!
Really enjoyed this movie. Criminally underrated. Why funnier than most people give it credit for, but there are no chainsaw kills. Thats the only glaring issue I see. And one more thing. "fuck you Jenny." ahahahah
To be fair, the (probable?) grandfather in this DOES do something. That something is admittedly just picking up a knife and walking away. I love this movie so much.
Good review mate. Texas 1 and 2 are awesome movies. The rest are utter bollocks. Where does leatherface keep findimg these family members? Does he keep going through a seriel killer adoption system? Tcm 4 is the most horrific though i still get shivers thinking about it

Based on the comments around five years ago people were really convinced that Matthew McConaughey was like the greatest living actor 😂.
I knew a make-up fx guy who worked on this (his company was one of a dozen they went through). He said the production was super troubled because of a director who wanted to spend the budget on everything but the movie. I can find redeeming qualities in Hooper's cokehead sequel but I fucking hate TCM4.
The insurance office is less lit than the forest. Maybe you switch on the flash light in there.

I just realized Resident Evil 7 is this movie.
14:15 Two words: Buffalo Bill. Leatherface has basically the same concept (skinning people) anyway. So... how did they manage to ruin that?.. Men in drag can be very creepy. Grandmas? Not so much... then again, the one in Shining was scary. So this is just a bad movie.

I have a feeling this was a generic script that someone on the studio board wanted to make a Texas chainsaw movie without a care about logic.
Also it was only written by Kim Henkel not Tobe Hooper so let's tarnish Hoopers name by involving him in this mess yet amazing movie we have been given.

The first time i learned about this film, was at a friends house one day after highschool. when i asked about it he point blank told me it sucked and to never bother... so i did not XD
i saw this like years ago and could only remember bits and pieces. I think the Illuminati dude had some kind of weird nipp piercing apparatus that he showed off at dinner, I remember feeling very ??? when Zells got up and was like well I've had enough I'm just gunna go, and I remember a weird possible come on scene between her and insurance lady. When the insurance lady told Zells that Illuminati story I assumed it was supposed to come off as '' here's a really stupid conspiracy thing Matthew's character convinced everyone to believe to help him carry out his murders.
Salana Salamone Art Yep I'm not ashamed to admit that I've loved this movie since I was a preteen but I still haven't figured out why that dude had the ring and what it was supposed to be. Back when I first saw the movie I thought it maybe had some connection to the original 70s Texas Chainsaw massacre but after seeing it I realized I was wrong and we'll likely never know. The whole movie is a mindfuck and leaves a lot unexplained but I think that's another reason why I enjoyed it. It's just a really weird but imo enjoyable movie.

Ye, seems the movie suffers the "only victim left" problem, but where it lost me is Mr. Illuminati. That was what? The family isn't even insane, but just hard working people of some shady organisation? That was unnecessary.
Renee Zellweger was so hot it’s unbelievable
This movie is glorious. Is it a good movie? No. But it's so bizarre that every moment is entrancing and every time you think the weirdness has peaked, they one-up themselves. I think Part 2 might still be my favourite but this is a close second. (I guess I prefer when this series just goes full ridiculous since I don't really find the more serious entries to be that entertaining.)

I watched this movie once in 1999 and have never gone back. One of the most awful movies I've seen with Batman and Robin and Creepshow 3.
I adamantly stand being Batman & Robin being the best non-Tim-Burton Batman movie by the virtue of being so bad it's good!.. I mean, those Arnie puns are classic kitsch!!1 xD While Batman Forever is so mediocre it might as well not exist, while Nolan's Batmans are boring, have no soul to Gotham and the worst actor to play Bruce Wayne.

@Forensic Entries Well......no. Leatherface is literally wearing a frilly blue apron (different from the brown one he wears normally), and is wearing a woman's face with lipstick on.
And he is also wearing a grey old woman's wig. He also acts meekly and puts on a woman's tone of voice during the scene where the father brings Sally home.
In the dinner scene he is wearing a suit but with even more make-up which is where you must be confused.

No he isn't. Gunnar Hansen himself stated that Leatherface has no identfiable personality so his masks is how he deals with it as he "becomes" that person.

Yo I saw this when I was about 5, first horror film, FUCKED ME UP!!!!! When Mattew McConaughey snapped homeboys neck... Grandma Leatherface the Kitchen scene. This movie is so random my 5 your old mind didn't know how to handle it. It's scary's me to this day. I man the airplane scene crazy !!!!
I like how seriously everyone takes these movies, as though any of them were 'quality' in the first place XD
