I love the little detail of how before Pi'illodium's boss battle, his introduction music isn't the comedic music that introduces Grobot, Torkscrew, Mammoshka, the Elite Trio, Big Massif, or most other bosses, it's the serious music that lets you know Pi'illodium is a serious threat. And he is. Sure, he's a comedic boss, but his attacks hit HARD and often.

When near defeat, he starts a self-destruct sequence. You have 40 seconds in real time to beat him before he blows up, and takes Mario and Luigi with him. You get as many turns as time will allow, though.
He doesn't necessarily kill Mario and Luigi in the self destruction. He just does a LOT of damage against them. If you're fully healed, you may survive the blast, but it's not a guarantee
This boss was really fucking hard, I’m glad to see I wasn’t the only one who had a hard time with him, especially that hammer attack he does! God, it’s the most fastest reaction time based attack I’ve ever fucking seen in a Mario game.
The Bros attacks are harder to pull off in this game, so for a lot of the bosses, if you can do 5 or 6 perfect Bros attacks in a row, that'll take them out. Except for the final boss, he'll wreck your shit.
The best strategy is to OR directly at the start of the battle and don’t stop using the Slingshot and hitting it’s core OR weaken it for extra damage to it and less damage to you. Then also use the Slingshot.

This boss was easy for be cuz i battled all Of The Enemies Except For The Weak Ones And Fought Him At Around Level 34 And Rekt Him I At Aeound The Mid Point But Before The Self Destruct I Use the Time Stop Badges Thing So I Can Pause Time And Do Around 1500 And Then He Died Before He Even Self Destruct

When his eyes go blue it's best to deal as much damage as quick as possible also it's often for him to miss on his laser

Considering emergency block wasn't a thing in this game that explosion would have killed you instantly unless you were over levled

Gamer boy I actually didn't. I could never aim the slingshot attack right so I never tried.
I remember stocking up on pow up badges and beating up the boss so hard it skipped the self destruct sequence, it was awesome
From here on out, this game goes from easy to pretty damn hard

Taking out the wings also lowers the defense.
I got a lucky hit and dealt nearly 900 damage to him, so he died before he could use the self destruct sequence

This was such a hard boss to beat.
You don't have to take out the wings first. It just makes dodging its attacks easier. You can attack the head even if the eyes are red.
It's funny how I beat the x variant by having Mario survive the self-destruct lol
