Daniel Ortega Well they kinda hinted at Elder Princess Shroob with Toadbert, so the entire time you know that something is going to happen, but you don't know exactly what. With this however, it came entirely out of the blue, with little to no warning. Considering how Bowser has been tricked and manipulated by almost every major villain so far, him turning the tables on Antasma was completely unexpected. It might not be the BIGGEST twist, but it was certainly the most surprising.
Daniel Ortega it was hinted so much (Kylie seeing something in one of the cobalt star shards, baby Luigi crying when the cobalt star was talking to the bros and toadbert's drawing.)

Bowser is the tutorial boss in Superstar Saga, Partners in Time (as a baby) and Bowser's Inside Story and in none of those games are they the main antagonist, but *Antasma* is the Tutorial Boss in this game.
I love how Bowser has character development in this series. He learned from the previous Mario & Luigi adventures and became a competent villain. He gained Antasma's trust and betrayed them before they could, and he would later be an actual threat for once.
Which Bowser looses in Paper Jam! Harpmony plus, Mario deals with many worse beings, including the sister of the ruler of a race of aliens, an ancient dark spirit AND the queen of shadows. Ok, the last one may be in an alternate universe, but that's beside the point.
This boss has to be one of the most memorable in the entire M & L series. Not because the fight itself is particularly noteworthy (though the fight is definitely excellent and does stand out from much of the crowd) but more so because of the setup. The twist of Bowser betraying Antasma was so unexpected, and so well executed. It was well set up, but not too obvious on the first time through, and it was totally in-character. But the best part about it is the unique scenario it puts Antasma in. After Bowser betrays him, Antamsa has nothing. No minions, no McGuffins, No nothing. He's just a somewhat powerful being. He has lost all hope of continuing his plan, he has no hope of defeating Bowser, and everyone wants him dead. He knows his chances of beating Mario and Luigi are almost 0%, but he has nothing left to lose except his own life. And nothing in the game points out this situation to the player; nothing that is, except the music. The Final Antasma Battle.
You know, Antasma is a shockingly competent villain. He can put Mario to sleep to try and drain his life away inside of his own nightmare, and he's also safe from damage. Then he literally *kidnaps Luigi mid battle and imprisons him in one of his licorice tootsie pops* draining their dreamy teamwork powers, and forcing Mario to prioritize his brother. Real strategy is being used and it's amazingly competent.
Don't forget he pulls a page outta Mario's book of merging with Dreamy Luigi and makes his own twisted way of using Dreamy Luigi's powers, too bad he underestimated how far Mario would go for his brother and vice versa.
You could just tell by the way that Antasma spoke that he was 100% planning to betray Bowser instead of ruling alongside him. He agreed with everything Bowser said and never spoke up when his suggestions got turned down by Bowser. If anything he was just playing along until he could finally do the betrayal. By the looks of it the battle was going to go down like the previous Bowser and Antasma battle where they enter the dream world and Bowser would absorb Antasma for extra power in the dream world like how Mario absorbs dreamy Luigi. But, since Antasma now has more power in the dream world which he showed off in the fight, he was most likely going to take over Bowser's body to use as a host and betray him like just about every other mario and luigi game. So I'm really glad that Bowser didn't end up being the punching bag of yet another betrayal, learned character development, and took charge for once. Now that I look back at this, I think I realised something else about Paper Jam's final boss battle. Before the fight starts, paper Bowser and real world Bowser talk about how they're going to crush the plumbers then take over the world for themselves. Real world Bowser says he's going to take over the world for himself, which paper Bowser then looks back at him confused and claims that he thought they were going to make it their world, not just his, which real world Bowser rejects him and says no matter what happens it's going to be his world only. So Bowser has officially learned how to avoid getting backstabbed by villains working alongside him. Although he agreed to fight with paper bowser, he doesn't put his full trust in him and decides to go with the safer route of just betraying the other person before they get a chance to betray him. Since paper bowser has never had this experience with learning from his mistakes, he's confused because he thought they had a partnership that they agreed to keep. They decide to hold off the argument until after they destroy the plumbers, which unfortunately for them, they never got a chance to finish that argument :(
Dang it- It would have been cool (and probably creepy in an interesting way) to see if Bowser could get possessed by Antasma, then again it's nice to see Bowser getting smarter
It just shows even Bowser has more development than Paper Bowser. In a way, Paper Bowser is less evil than Bowser. But in Bowser’s defense, he had tried to trust to create an alliance and kept being betrayed. He took that lesson to the point he cant trust himself, literally.
Bowser's "I dont work well with other!" feels like a meta comment about himself being aware that he always ended up getting betrayed everytime he teams up with a new powerful big bad
Remember that Eldream said that's it dangerous to fall asleep in a dream. This is what Antasma is making you do. If he won, I guarantee you that he would have KILLED Bowser.
Yeah I agree Bowser would win with the dream stone. The only reason Bowser didn’t wish to get rid of Mario and Luigi is because he was probably to cocky because of his new dreamy powers and wanted to beat them hand to hand once and for all. With Antasma he’d probably waste no time and just wish him away.
@the crewmember with amazing arms It is not, is actually very common to dream that you get asleep, hahaha. What it is a bit dangerous is when your body relaxes too much when sleeping (meaning your having a deep sleep), because this is making your organs relax so much that they start working too slow, but no problem the brain is always at work and when these things happen it sends a signal through your body that awakes you instantly. That's what happens when you awake a bit agitated in the middle of the night.

Yoko Shimomura is a great first-time Mario music composer! She started her job with Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, and then got involved with the same job in the Mario & Luigi franchise. Dream Team's OST is my favorite and only Mario & Luigi OST is what I will now live for not just for several years, but for a lifetime!
Antasma Vill Take Over The Vorld! Y'know, you wasted a wish. Making portals to ze dream vorld just help in a fight. Why not wish for control over beings such as bowser himself, or the Dark Star, or Dreambert himself, to make him commit suicide. That would be very effective.
3:07 Mario falling asleep reminds me of the Pokémon and Paper Mario games when some enemies can inflict the Sleep like a Status Effect/Ailment, despite the fact that in this game works differently.
they should have given him the fawful treatment or it would have been cool if at the end of the game instead of starlo breaking the dream stone antasma would show up being terribly weak but due to you smashing all of the nightmare chunks he managed to get the nightmare stone back and used it to overpower bowser. after the fight antasma would calmly leave you never to be seen again.
It’s not just an opinion, it’s a fact. Antasma is the best boss in the entire game. Maybe if Dreamy Bowser wasn’t so easy to beat, he would’ve been the best, but his attacks are so easy to dodge and he has so little health.
Well, uhh, how do I put this? I killed antasma in three turns accidentally.. I used the Luiginary Typhoon, the flame and then got a lucky Hammer. I did not expect it.
Antasma: SCREEK! You cannot defeat me, foolish plumber! Mario: I know, but weegee hammer can. Antasma: ...Weegee hammer? (Mario swings a giant hammer made of Luigis at Antasma, instantly killing him.)
Antasma is such a cool boss to fight! Mario’s completely at his mercy in the dream world and making him fall asleep within that dream makes Mario completely helpless!
This just reminds how much I freakin love this game, it was my first M&L game, and now I have every single one except PIT. Just something extra, I was the 666'th like.
This was my first Mario and Luigi game too. This game will always have a place in my heart, and it’s probably my favorite Mario and Luigi game tied with Bowser’s Inside Story.
Bowser just had enough of this Luigi-treated like shit and figured “Yeah, let me backstab you and be the Final Boss of this and the 5th game cause I had enough of this bullshit!”, didn’t see that coming.
When I was against this boss fight I was a big idiot and though you had to stay outsude of the circle instead of inside. And it's only when I saw a video of this boss is when I realized that I was wrong the intire time.
Sleetimus I know, bowser is like the final boss for almost every game, and antasma might look like a bat. But in reality he is bigger than bowser is in his true form.
The Mario Bros. have the perfect countermeasure for repeling and defeating beings of Pure Evil and Demons of Pure Darkness. Pure Darkness is the symbol of Evil and no matter how difficult it gets, heroes always put an end to this once and for all. That is why Mario & Luigi are called the Super Mario Bros. I spoke like a true hero. Did you hear?
Right before this Battle bowser has a realization that does not just change his personality just in Mario and Luigi, but in the whole Mario series. Throughout bowsers entire life he has just been a pawn. Now he is for real.

Antasma best villain! The section where you run from him in your mind is so crrative and fun instead of frustating, i understand Bowser also made a great final boss, but his attacks aren't as cool as Antasma's
Antasma did bring an entire kingdom to ruin, we don’t know how many Pi’illos got broken and shattered by time’s ravages after being petrified. Also, Bowser is extraordinarily hard to kill. He’s survived being sent into a sun. Antasma seemed to just seems to… explode after defeat. Maybe being defeated in the Dream World, where he was more powerful, and kicking him out meant that he didn’t have enough strength to survive the damage he took. Or maybe the sheer might of the Mario Bros finally dispelled the nightmare that the lone bat ate by chance.
Bowser: *finally is the betrayer and has the ultimate source of power (the dream stone) and gets really close to killing the Mario brothers, it is like he got smart* . . . Also Bowser: *continues putting axes on bridges*

That would be very effective.

they should have given him the fawful treatment or it would have been cool if at the end of the game instead of starlo breaking the dream stone antasma would show up being terribly weak but due to you smashing all of the nightmare chunks he managed to get the nightmare stone back and used it to overpower bowser. after the fight antasma would calmly leave you never to be seen again.
Im really uncreative he wears his clothing similar to Dark Fawful
Probably my favorite boss fight in this game. It was so satisfying to beat him.

@@littlemoth4956 wdym woosh, dude. Toprak was making a joke since he's the first introduction to a fight in the game
You KNOW you’re screwed if this plays.
well at least to me
In my opinion, Antasma is the best boss in the game
It’s not just an opinion, it’s a fact. Antasma is the best boss in the entire game. Maybe if Dreamy Bowser wasn’t so easy to beat, he would’ve been the best, but his attacks are so easy to dodge and he has so little health.
@@thealmightywholesome7193 Lmao what?? Neither of those are even remotely true, especially the health bit
Antasma basically committed suicide with that last attack.

Antasma is not only one of the hardest Mario and Luigi bosses, but probably one of the hardest Mario bosses period!

I just realized something, the Antasma battle takes place in a part of the game only seen there, dreamy roof of Neo Bowser Castle.
5:36 I found out that jumping again after that ring of orbs explodes can get you hurt by an invisible hitbox
Just because of that death, I headcanon Antasma with Mr. Creosote's voice

Antasma Is So Powerful But Nothing Can Stop Mario Not Even Someone As Powerful As Antasma
When I was against this boss fight I was a big idiot and though you had to stay outsude of the circle instead of inside. And it's only when I saw a video of this boss is when I realized that I was wrong the intire time.
Love the whole aesthetic. The part where he chases you has to be my favorite attack.
Epic boss fight ever.
Why couldn't a more powerful Antasma have been the final boss?
Sleetimus I know, bowser is like the final boss for almost every game, and antasma might look like a bat. But in reality he is bigger than bowser is in his true form.
Yeah, another twist I thought would be pretty cool was Antasma absorbing both stones.
In a way, he's a "final" boss, since he's the last and hardest boss of the dream world, so he's the final boss of the dream world
Number ZER0
Partners in time: Elder shroob princess (past time final boss) and Bowser (present time final boss).
Tbh it shows character development bowser finally backstabs someone
The Mario Bros. have the perfect countermeasure for repeling and defeating beings of Pure Evil and Demons of Pure Darkness. Pure Darkness is the symbol of Evil and no matter how difficult it gets, heroes always put an end to this once and for all. That is why Mario & Luigi are called the Super Mario Bros. I spoke like a true hero. Did you hear?
+Douglas Sheridan Even if Mario and Luigi aren't teaming up to stop a major threat, one will find a way to stop evil regardless.
Right before this Battle bowser has a realization that does not just change his personality just in Mario and Luigi, but in the whole Mario series. Throughout bowsers entire life he has just been a pawn. Now he is for real.

It feels so wierd they killed antasma but let bowser live
Antasma did bring an entire kingdom to ruin, we don’t know how many Pi’illos got broken and shattered by time’s ravages after being petrified. Also, Bowser is extraordinarily hard to kill. He’s survived being sent into a sun. Antasma seemed to just seems to… explode after defeat. Maybe being defeated in the Dream World, where he was more powerful, and kicking him out meant that he didn’t have enough strength to survive the damage he took. Or maybe the sheer might of the Mario Bros finally dispelled the nightmare that the lone bat ate by chance.
Bowser: *finally is the betrayer and has the ultimate source of power (the dream stone) and gets really close to killing the Mario brothers, it is like he got smart*
