Thanks so much for watching! I hope you found this video on how to write a copyright page for children's books helpful. Be sure to find me over on Instagram & TikTok, so we can connect there as well!
Eevi is in the know. This is another informative and pertinent video where Eevi encourages aspiring children's authors to not give up. She answers multiple relevant questions in a clear, simplified way which I am so thankful for.
@@EeviJones, and thank you for responding to questions here too. I just watched 2 other videos by 2 different guys about this copyright procedure and neither of them had responded to anyone asking questions at all. So I came to find your video on it and fill in the blanks, so to speak. You did answer my own question as to whether to file before or after we publish, so thank you for that too.
Thank you, Eevie! Your videos are so straight forward and well prepared and presented, even complicated topics are easy to follow. I've enjoyed your channel so much, I shared it with the Facebook community for the Book Camp group I participate in. Keep 'em coming!
Super helpful. I am about to publish my 2nd kids picture book and didn't add the copyright page for book 1. But I think I'll do it this time. And wait to register with the copyright office. Thanks for posting this. Keep creating!
Thank you for the informative video. It answers many of my questions. However, I do have another question. I have finished writing my story, but I'm still waiting for the illustrations to be finished. Can I get the book copyright without the illustrations? Also, if my book was ready to be sold on Amazon, but it was not copyright, but 3 months later I decided to copyright it, would I still have the legal protection?
Excellent videos...just curious, you said you don't apply for the copyright until after you publish. How can you add the copyright information on the copyright page if it isn't copyrighted yet?
Thank you so much! Adding our copyright filing number won't have to be added on our copyright page. Instead, we can simply add our ISBN here. I so hope this helps!
Hi Eevi, I am the author and illustrator of my first children’s book. Would I register for the literary work and visual work (illustrations) separately? Together as a unit? Thank you and thank you for all of your informative videos!
Hi Angela! How you go about copyrighting your work is completely up to you. I personally would copyright my manuscript separately; and then choose the group option when copyrighting the illustrations, which will allow you to group a number of illustrations together on one registration. The reason I would separate your story and the visual work is that if you were to substantially change your story, you would also have to re-register your illustrations if they were combined. That being said, please remember that I'm not a legal adviser, so please make sure you consult with your intellectual attorney. I so hope this helps.
Hi Susan, It sounds like while you purchased an exclusive license to the art, the copyright remains with the illustrator. So if your agreement doesn't state a transfer of copyright ownership, then you would use the illustrator's name after the copyright symbol.
Copyright question… can I mention characters or reference other works? Like if I were to write a side spin off story about one of the characters in Snow White… can I use “snow white” in my book or would I have to change it?
Hello, just found your channel but wish I had found it much earlier. My question is although I obtained my copyrights years ago someone recently published a children’s book on Amazon with my exact title. To add insult to injury their book is listed directly under mine. I filed an infringement that has been entirely useless. Any comments or suggestions would be deeply appreciated.
Thanks again Eevi for the excellent information on copyright. We appreciate your honesty and helpful ways to save money during this book construction process. John and Jane at mjchanacapublishing.

Hello, do you need to register your imprint logo on Bowker or do you just add that your self on the copywrite page?
Hello there! How are you? If we wish to use an imprint, we will have to purchase our ISBNs under that imprint. I so hope this helps.
I am about to publish my first picture book, and your videos and book have been extremely helpful. I have one question I'm hoping you will answer. I have in my illustrator agreement that I am purchasing the sole and exclusive license to produce, publish, and/or sell the artwork for the legal term of copyright. Therefore, on the copyright page, how do I handle the illustrator copyright line? Does my name go in the "right holder" space since I purchased exclusive rights to the art, or does the artist's name go there? The line I'm referring to is this one: Illustrations copyright ©| year [right holder].
Hi Susan,
It sounds like while you purchased an exclusive license to the art, the copyright remains with the illustrator. So if your agreement doesn't state a transfer of copyright ownership, then you would use the illustrator's name after the copyright symbol.

Hi there, Hannah! How are you? I mentioned this topic in this video right here: ruclips.net/video/8okjmdWgn6w/видео.html I hope this helps!
Clearly explained.
Thank you so much, Tina!!

Hi Cathy! While we can copyright our work, titles cannot be copyrighted. I so hope this answers your question.
