I picked one up used at a pawn shop for $90 today, used it on 3 cars, one of them a 2016 model, and it works great! I was able to see quite a few modules that the old code reader I have won't even come near showing.

Unfortunately most people who review this and the Actron CP9690 do not review it on a OBD I vehicle. I have the Actron CP9690 that appears to be identical to this scanner and it does not do live data. I used it today on a 1986 Ford F250. It does report fault codes but does not offer much beyond that. But it seems to be the only game in town other than an expensive Snap On tool. If there is another scanner out there that can report live data on an OBD I and is under $500.00 I would like to know.

I just ordered the OBD1200, got a new sealed in box for $130, wohoo!! Hoping it will diagnose my 'traction control active' situation on my 04 Suburban. All the shops tell me its a wheel speed sensor, but need the obd hooked to it when it actually acts up to determine which one, as its an intermittent issue and no SES lights.
I've never heard of the Actron til reading the comments. Its color is the same as my Klein voltmeter. Good thing I went with the Bosch tho, having the voltmeter and obd the same color woulda confused me. I've already accidentally grabbed my light tester thinking it was my solder iron, oops!

The Bosch 2220 I received yesterday is made in Mexico, not China & it doesn't seem to be Australian specific.
Since my car runs the 5.7 litre Chevy LS1 V8 engine, I had to set it manually as a 2002 Chevy Camaro under the U.S. car list, there's no list for Australian cars.
I got a P0332 fault code which is number 2 (rear) knock sensor ,low signal output which I put down to it being a cheap Chinese knock off.
I'm going to pay $88 AUD for a decent one which won't set a code,at least I found a scanner that will read a GM OBD2 car which was built during the pre CAN days.

I"ve just ordered a Bosch OBD2 2220 Australian specific scanner as the cheap $50-$100 AUD scanners haven't been able to read the codes from my Chevy LS1s ECU in my 2002 model Holden Commodore.
I have intermittently had the engine management symbol come up on the LCD odometer screen when I'm driving but I haven't had a code reader that has been able to read that car.
People are thinking that the one I have paid $199 AUD for (from Repco) will work, they are on special until February 3 (Saturday over here) & are selling for $355 AUD on EBay.

BUT...it will not work properly on my 2011 Volvo XC60. Basically tells me that A Lot of diagnostics are not available with my car.
I needed to turn off the "SRS Airbag Service Urgent" message that popped up when I was disconnecting audio cables to the Sub-woofer... but it cannot get linked up properly. Says link in communication with several systems. Unit cannot retrieve most of the deeply rooted trouble codes... it can only find and clear the normal DTC's needed to pass smog tests and such....

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders I bought this scanner for $ 197, plugged it into the OBDII connector and select Chevy Blazer '95 diagnostics... The message "Not all supported" appeared and the scanner only read ECM errors. The same as the $ 5 Chinese ELM327... Ok, I decided to connect it to my Skoda and couldn't do it. OBDII connector does not fit! Again, the Chinese ELM327 was able to connect without any problems... I'm terribly disappointed with the purchase. I never thought that a Bosch product would be worse than a Chinese hack.

Thanks for sharing this & that’s a bummer. It will need to be connected to internet & updated to the present software upload.

I bought this scanner last week (however it was the Actron version) same scanner same manufacturer same everything but different color just sold under a different brand.
I own a 1995 Buick Regal with one of those weird OBD "1.5" ALDL connections that GM used during the OBD 1 to OBD 2 transition and only purchased it for that reason. The scanner can't read my cars ABS code but it did read my main problem a faulty TPS sensor error code P0123 and even told me my cars freon was low via a sensor. Which is good news as the car has some electrical problems and it thought it just claimed the A/C along with my passanger window, powered mirrors, and cruise control.
My car is OBD 1 but with a odd pin layout that only works with the GM Tech 2, this scanner and a few Snap On's. I'm pleased with my purchase I got mine for $219 off amazon but I noticed Jet.com has one for a little less then $210 and they have some first time customer promo codes going on so you might be able to get a really decent deal if your looking for one of these. As far as I know this scanner (Bosch OBD 1300) retails for $299. Bosch has confirmed that this and the Actron cp9690 are in fact the same scanner.

    • @DIYwithMichaelBorders

Pretty good. I have used it a few times...and by few...I mean "Once" haha on an OBDI vehicle. The OBDI vehicles have several port hook-ups...its fun and annoying trying to find them....not to mention cars of that age are very dirty, grimy, and coated with oil haha.

Thanks for viewing...The 1300 is going to give you everything you need in a scanner from OBD 1 (1984 - 1995 Ford, GM, Chrysler, & Toyota) as well as 1996 to present date vehicles. Also includes the Code Connect which is a value that is by far more than the price of the unit. 1300 also comes with hook-up to update manufacturer codes as new year make and models arrive.
1350 adds a few features that are good for routine and high experienced shops and mechanics however for the average Do-it-Yourselfer won't use.

If it's a 1996 or newer Subaru, it has to have the OBD2 plug under the dash on the drivers side of the car. (Federal law)At first there were few standards and each manufacturer had their own systems and signals. In 1988, the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) set a standard connector plug and set of diagnostic test signals. The EPA adapted most of their standards from the SAE on-board diagnostic programs and recommendations. OBD-II is an expanded set of standards and practices developed by SAE and adopted by the EPA and CARB (California Air Resources Board) for implementation by January 1, 1996

Thanks for watching & sharing your question. This scanner is great. 😀
All vehicle manufacturers prior to 1996 placed their OBD 1 ports in different spots throughout the engine.
As far as colors, you will need to refer to the owners manual & engine specs/diagram for the actual location of your ports. It’s a pretty friendly process.

Snap-on scanners work on imports with the right cartridges. Check on EBAY. See if you can get a 2000 cartridge. The Actron CP9690 works on OBDI and OBDII. It has a adaptor for Ford, G.M., Chrysler, and Toyota. It has a adaptor for OBDII. Snap-on has a adaptor for Nissan OBDI plus others. Get the manuals. Get a import primary cartridge and a Troubleshooter cartridge. See if it needs the battery cable that hooks up to the port on the side of the adaptor. Get a cigarette lighter cable.

is the obd 1300 better than the obd 1350 I want to buy one but I'm not sure witch one

    • @DIYwithMichaelBorders
      @DIYwithMichaelBorders  7 лет назад +2

Thanks for checking out the video. The 1300 is going to give you everything you need in a scanner from OBD 1 (1984 - 1995 Ford, GM, Chrysler, & Toyota) as well as 1996 to present date vehicles.

Thanks for watching Mark, great question. You can hook the scanner up to your computer any day of the week and update the scanner to the most current error code database. 😁
However each manufacture releases error codes differently. After a new vehicle hits the public roads, the car manufacturing companies hold onto some error codes for warranty repairs however they will release a wide variety of all other error codes.
Hope this helps, we definitely recommend the Bosch brand scanners.
