PRS has been developing some very good pickups. The pickups in this guitar sound great enough to compete with Suhr.
Trogly you need to look on guitar center used there is a custom es195 in orange with lots of flame, has a nonreverse firebird headstock, diamond inlays and p94’s gold and chrome hardware with a gold Bigsby. @thetroglys’sguitarshow
@@jesselawson224 You're not kidding Jesse, it's the GC in Portland Maine that has it. Fair Price too (hopefully its a real Gibson).
It could just be the angle of the photos but some of it looks a little strange.
I was just wondering recently if any company has made a double neck with a baritone and a standard guitar.
If I were in the market for a Cali, I’d probably go with a Friedman or USA Charvel.
I prefer PRS for their original shapes - Custom 22/24 or the Santana. Don’t even care for their single cuts.
I bet the guys with their initials were stoked for the recognition- right up until you pointed out the two paint chips and the dings, loose input jack....LMAO 😂
Absolutely agree; visible cosmetic flaws on a $2,5K guitar are inexcusable. Plus the long sap lines on the fretboard are unbelievable, too. That board should have been discarded by QC long before the neck was finished. And no cavity shielding?
Can't wait to Trogly making an Epiphone Coronet reissue review.
No a Epiphone phantomatic!
No a Epiphone MKH Origins! (if it finally comes out!)
@@armandomorales3809 Yeah a little bird told me that Trogly is a HUGE MCR-fan.
@@standinsilence bro I've been looking for a well prices phantomatic forever the market has gone way overpriced! And if really is that's awesome amazing band in reality often hated but most rock fans.
I’d love to see his thoughts on the crestwood custom or the Wilshire.
People on the internet always talk about gibson prices, but I particularly find it absurd to pay 2.5k on a guitar that comes with a nylon bag... no matter how practical or good it is!
.
Anyway, another great review 👏🏻
He's so underrated, he plays in two of my favorite bands which are snarky puppy and the fearless flyers. Both amazing groups
He's in Fearless Flyers? That's sweet!
Snarky puppy really?
Awesome taste!
not underrated at all - currently classed as one of the top guitar players worldwide.
I traded my Silver Sky for a Fiore and couldn't be happier. It's more my style and is immensely versatile. Do I wish it had a hard case? Sure, but honestly the gig bag is easier to cart around to gigs and protects it pretty well. Anyways, good review as always Austin!
After seeing a few videos of this guitar, for me I would definitely get this one over the Silver Sky. The specs are just more what I look for in a Strat except for the rear route but that is minor. It looks good, and sounds excellent! Good job PRS! P.S. Austin your playing has improved a lot, congrats and keep up the good work!
I like how Gibson gets trashed for their prices, but a $2500 superstrat in a market where those fall out of the trees is 'worth it'.
You could built that guitar out of Warmoth, finished & all, for like 900 bucks.
I bet the guy is super happy with it and all but jfc the logic on that.
$2500 is well into Suhr territory and you could probably buy 2 Music Man in similar spec for that.
Or one with at least a roasted neck ffs.
PRS made a 'super strat' decades ago, it's called a CE24. And unlike this, it seems worthy of the asking price.
Yeah, I love the red color, ash bodies are great and I'm a strat fan, but I wouldn't trade my CE24 for this.
u sound salty cause u cant afford ir
@@evtwt4175 Lol I have a Chandler modded MIJ ESP 400 series with EMGs, SPC boost & a USA Wilk trem that will smoke that POS like a pack of Camels.
Nice try, though.
@@kampfkustomer2343 guess you havent played the prs :) nice try though, salty
I recently discovered Mark’s album Spark and Echo and I think I have listened to it a couple of hundred times in the last two months. I think he could play just about anything and make it worth listening to.
Check him with Snarky Puppy if you haven’t already. He’s a great guitarist and the band is 🔥!!!!
PRS guitars are fantastically made. That scarf joint, my god. The overall quality on every PRS is amazing.
I still don't care for the bird inlays, but you gotta hand it to them. PRS is the best guitar manufacturer on the planet.
Pre-ordered one yesterday. Pretty excited about it. I didn't really get into Mark Lettieri's music until recently and I've never had an HSS type of guitar but i needed something versatile and this seems like it will be that and more.
How are u liking it?
Also, on the wood grain matching at the scarf joint, when I worked at apple, they would bring in wood experts to re-plane all the table tops and to make it look consistent for deep gouges, they had a guy on those teams that would hand-paint wood grain onto wood just like this scarf joint. It’s incredible.
You’ve HAVE to do a David Grissom model! It’s BY FAR their greatest guitar they’ve ever made. So I hear.
I played the Fiore and it's better than the silver sky. It plays better, sounds better, that humbucker is amazing. Only down side is probably the color options.
I traded my Silver Sky for a Fiore, and I would agree it's the better of the two. If Mark was a household name like John these would be flying off the shelf...er hook lol
Respectfully, that guitar looks like a cheap korean one, not a 2.5k USA made guitar at all!.
Who ever built this is a good finish carpenter. Took time to care.
Man, cant wait until prs puts these in stores in 2022. Man covid sucks.
Trogly's in the HOUSE!!!
Great thorough video. The one thing you didn't mention. How was the intonation and tuning up and down the neck. Did it require any setup out of the box?
Wow! What a smooth sound coming through those pickups! Sounds like a very musical instrument in my opinion.
Thank Goodness for Leo Fender......what would we do without him !!!!!!!!
Couldn't agree with you more. Leo fender and Les Paul, without those two, the world of music would be a different place entirely!
My guess is yes.... Love the video keep them up. Bring back trade Tuesday
+
Mark is an underrated guitarist for sure
You win the wallmart award for the first comment wooohooo you are awesome
Gosh, anyone else in that boat of wanting to buy PRS, but your gut says "nah"? Give them this much; the necks are smooth to play.
Probably the best guitar neck I've ever played!
Hello, awesome review ! Love it 👌. Have a few questions as I am a P90 style G style guitar love ....Isn’t the nut too thin ? I love 42-43 mm at nut ? Let me know what you think and if the single coils aren’t too thin and clear. I love fat sounding single coils...thanks for your answer and help. Cheers from France
Very nice, sounds amazing!
Trog in the house!
Thanks trogly, love when you do the prs content, but youre great!
Nice test drive. I like the clean look of the guitar.
Best sounding prs I’ve ever heard it actually has textures to its sound where the silver sky always sounds a little too muted
I'll tell you,Paul has come up with some amazing sweet sounding pickups the past couple years. All and all nice guitar just higher price point..
Wallmart
I wouldn't call that single coil rout "regular" as it lacks the lip of the pickup hence no ordinary single coil will fit :)
Great work as usual, sir.
Makes me think of an Ibanez Joe Satriani guitar i used to have in the late 90s. It was an amazing instrument!!
It’s a fake news Ibanez JS! Looks amazing!
More PRS please! Love them
Do they charge extra for the neck pocket gap?
what did you use to polish the neck i want mine to be super slippery =)
That neck pickup sounds great in every switching combination.
Yeah that neck single coil is dope
Hi Everybody. John in Utah says: I have one of these on order and it is due soon. You mentioned that you polished the neck and like it better. If you happen to read this post I would like to know what/how you did the polish job?
I’d like to see you made an video of a Supro Hampton if is possible… it will be amazing!
Request - It would be great to see you review a Music Man Steve Lukather or Albert Lee signature guitar.
Can we have a review on the Squier contempory series, like the Gunmetal grey HH strat with Floyd rose?
Beautiful looking and sounding guitar! (The baritone is such an underrated guitar in my opinion.)
Wow your playing sounded great in this video!
@@primeDecomposition I know, I usually skip the sound demo because he doesn’t sound good. I don’t understand how he can review 10000 guitars but he still can’t play
There were three of these at GC today... all three colors. I thought the black and red ones looked the best... and surprisingly probably the black over the red in person. I actually didn't play any of them though... because I guess they looked kind of plain and I already have a strat and three PRS guitars. I really don't see the appeal of these guitars unless you want a hss type strat. If I had my choice between this and a CE 24 for the same price with an expensive flame top on it that's a no brainer...the CE any day. The CE sounds epic... close to my core 24. Three guitars should be priced at about $1,800 considering no flame top... they are overpriced though I'm sure they sound great as do most PRS guitars...
In the beginning of your video the guitar your reviewing looked a rich red with the wood grain just noticeable. After you spoke of the lack of a pick guard it changed to an orange fire type of red. Dont know if it's a difference in your lighting or what but either way if it's actually that flame red or the rich red it's a beautiful instrument. The next iteration of this guitar should have either a smoked maple neck and fret board or at least a rose wood neck.
Like how the pickups are screwed into the body directly :-)
Idk these unfinished super light maple necks always look cheap to me...
Hey trogly, ur playing got really better, nice 👌🎉
I dig this guitar. I'm curious if the pole magnets are actually a little bigger than standard Strat stock. They almost have a SD Quarter Pounder look. Either way, they're hot, and I love the versatility built in with all of the switching options.
I like it too, but it's not a 2.5k like.
@@PastelComGini If I'm going to buy a S-type to end the "hunt" and have one that can do it all and be done, $2500 isn't unreasonable to me. Probably because I'm not a Strat lover, but appreciate the sound and tones it provides, and recognize that there are times when one is needed.
Wow, it's like the perfect, all around guitar.
Great look too.
Seems like something Mick Mars would play... or maybe something I'd pick up just to have a solid HSS lmaoo
Greetings and well wishes from Utah man!
Dang Trog your playing has gotten good. For a sec I thought I was in a guitar center 😂👌
How do these compare to the music man Cutlass or Stingray? I dig the Maple fretboard. I believe prices are comparable .
I was looking at these, the Cutlass, and Ibanez Prestige. Ultimately what sold me on the Fiore were the pickups, and to a lesser extent the looks of the black iris. That said, MM makes incredible guitars, their fit and finish and QC are up there with the best. I think PRS himself has said as much. I don't think you could go wrong with any of their guitars.
Ordered one in "Sugar Moon" . have to wait a couple of months but it should be worth the wait
How is it?
My wish would be the pickups and switching from this guitar, and the rosewood fretboard and pickguard from the Silver Sky. Or I could get a Tom Anderson (new or used) instead of wishing.
Great review !
Try turning down the tone knobs off when all 3 Pups are on 😄
For me, the sound is so unique and usefull
you have roland duo capture ex - Can it power 250ohm headphones?
Woah! I didn’t expect this. So cool!!
Does anyone know what magnets are in this guitar?
Really no hardshell for that price? Chipped finish for that price?
The industry employees who know trogly that work at the same place give eachother the underground mutual nod of respect every time they cross paths.
@Nick Manupella I’m not the one asking...
Trogly is in the house 🏠😳🙌😍😎👀.
Is it weird that I found the best tone, clean or distorted, to be the neck pickup?
I'm so surprised about QC problems on a PRS, you should contact them about that, I'm sure they will replace the guitar by a perfect one!
Same. I own a few PRS's from different price ranges and they're flawless.
please could you tell me the nut width and neck profile and measurments please? i might buy it if i can get that info.... many thanks, alex
He always provides these measurements in his videos.
Trogs, you are the bestest, enjoy your analysis and reviews of guitars.
Nice revu you should Do
Godin électric revu Godin
Was doing some contract for
Some Gibson guitare i think in
The 90's !
Oh, *that* guy! A friend had sent me the link to exactly that clip about a month ago! 😀
Sounds great!
Your guitar tones sounded good
Just bought one of these and I am absolutely in love. Fantastic guitar! Was gonna go for a Silver Sky but definitely glad I went this route.
That thing looks so 80s. I have my first US pros (an s2) im very happy with it
I was reading your comment before he showed the guitar and you weren't kidding about it looking straight out of the 80s.
If I buy a guitar off of your reverb I'll also throw you a lesson with @tomofujita so you can learn some new licks & better picking technique. Couldn't be more thankful for the daily uploads tho man really..🙏
I would buy this guitar. Sounds good.
PRS was it in the late 80's 90's ..to me they competed with Ibanez I saw a prs in a thrift store back in the day for 300 and passed it up for a Peavey t-60 ...the prs I thought was a budget guitar really - I'd have one over a Fender Strat but take a Tele over this
A PRS for $300? Should’ve bought it, probably worth at least $1500 now.
@@gregs8685 The peavey t-60 is getting up there now, great guitars I had it for bout 10 yrs and traded IT ALONG WITH MY AMP AND 600 for a 66 mustang, I had to get a Gibson studio to come close of the sound it had... I never like a strat all plastic looking, my brother likes em to me they sound thin... or the PRS just had that cheap look to me, the PRS looks a step-up, but still has that big hair Band 80's ibanez look, the Peavey had a bolt on neck and natural finish and had P or Peavey written on all the parts, made in the USA..had a peavey Classic 2-12 tube amp as well..i loved that Skynyrd played Peavey at the time..and was something that matches
I'm not thrilled with Red or the Fretboard, but it sounds Great. I would prefer hardtail
Love that neck pickup.
I don't watch Steve T much but glad he's back,he looked lost i feel he is good guy
Cool
The deep baritone albums and fearless flyers are some of my most favorite music from nowadays. Really love his chord play too.
I just noticed T You're the tar play is getting much Better rock on
a “neck-on” switch is essential for any strat-style guitar. That humbucker sounded better to me with the switch up.
Please review a singlecut 594.
Like that better than the Silver Sky, would look better with the reverse headstock though.
As someone mentioned in a comment, i'd like to see you review a Bullyma'sorry, CHAPman tele style.....
I'd prefer a reverse body, but I doubt that's gonna happen
Hard to justify the cost with that ding in the switch route right out of the box. Dig the wood grain through the paint though.
To each his own but here is a better review by the Guitarist which I've always enjoyed. ------
I found out about Mark Lettieri from Snarky Puppy. I was surprised to hear you talk about Mark without mentioning THAT band.
He does not say the name out loud, but he did throw up the Snarky Puppy logo when he mentioned Mark’s work as a sideman.
Or the fearless flyers subsidiary of the vulf collective
Never handled a PRS before - is the gap between the neck and the body at 3:40 normal? I am somewhat puzzled because my Squier does not have that.
Yeah, it looks horrible. Looks like a bad neck joint to me. I cant beleive that passed on such a high price point guitar. If i paid 500 for a guitar and it came looking like that, I would return it instantly.
I think that has something to with his green screen (black in this case) rather than the neck joint. If you watch it on .25 speed you see a black line appear and move as he's turning the guitar and it doesn't look natural. From other angles the neck seems fine. I could be wrong.
Starting at 3:35
Good looking instrument. The bridge is "Decked". Why get a vibrato bridge if you're not going to float it ????? A bit expensive for me. Thanks for showing it.
From just what I heard instrumentally Mark Letteiri's sound is sort of like Steely Dan with out words.
$2,500 and we get a gig bag?!!!!!!
THAT IS THE BEST GUITAR SET OF TONES AND MADE YOUR PLAYING SOUND WAY, WAY, WAY GREAT!!! EITHER YOU HAVE BEEN PRACTICING A BOATLOAD OR IT IT MATCHES YOU INFINITELY!!! AMAZING SOUNDS!!!🎸👏🏼👏🏼🌊
Just bought one and sorry to say did not like it. A couple issues I had was I did not like the tone (pickups) through my Friedman (20 watt) rig and 1x12. I use a Danocaster Tele, Suhr Classic S , Knaggs, and Signature Fender strat, which all sound great. The other issue was the pull knobs, The knobs are like glass and not so easy to pull up. Now maybe over time it would get easier as it worked in, I dont know. I just could not get attached to the overall feel of the neck either and had to return the guitar. On the plus side the craftsmanship of the guitar was very good. Very nice looking guitar. I really wanted to like it...
mmm... for that style of body, i honestly think the Joe Satriani Ibanez signature or the Lukather from Ernie Ball are nicer 😎
Ever talk, or review, the guitars or Cheap Tricks --Rick Nielsen...good stuff...
You can’t do a Mark Lettieri video without mentioning Snarky Puppy or The Fearless Flyers! That’s where he SHINES
