I find that your guiding young students, observing/hearing their challenges, to be super helpful (including Chloe & Freda). This from a retired upper elementary teacher. Thank you for all that you do (from the Pacific Northwest).
You are so welcome!
So beautiful. Thank you for your most informative video 😊

Thanks for your message and for subscribing!
Please let me know , Should we cut glass shorter then design marker to accommodate lead H strips,
Mesmerizing! I didn’t realize I was holding my breath towards the end until I finally exhaled. Very informative.
Yes it was a bit of a tricky one - especially for a beginner!!
I tried my first stained glass project today, sadly I didnt pay enough attention before and I ordered only 4mm lead. It's so narrow! I gave up after one hour of struggling. Will give it one more go tomorrow, but I think I'll have to order the 12mm for the outside from and 8mm for the rest just like you're doing here. Thank you for uploading this tutorial!
@@adamolesiak6528 Even I struggle with 4mm lead! I'm sure you'll smash it with 8mm! :-)
Can you make a video on how to use different size came. The transition where the two
meet and how to make them look right. I am having a problem with the smaller size is sitting down below the larger size came and it doesn’t flow together smoothly.
My next job uses 6mm and 10mm so I'll film that bit.
Impressive , very impressive .😊😊😊😊😊😊
Thank you! Cheers!
Great video thank you. Shame its hard to clearly see the cuts made but that was very informative in the way you cut the heart out of the lead, and in general shows Lead can take a lot of abuse and still be fine. My first piece was too intricate - I wasn't familiar with foil method so in the end redesigned it.
We all learn a lot from our first pieces. I remember doing a panel that was more like a mosaic in its intricacies. Never again!
Hi love your tutorial I was wondering where you got your set square from love the size. Thanks 🙋♀️✨✨Sheelagh Evenden
I can't remember where I bought it I'm afraid. Had it donkeys years.
I had never thought about tucking lead under another piece of lead came. Must add greatly to the strength of the piece.
Yes, and much easier than mitres!!
Thank you, I learned so much from this.
Glad it helped.

Great beginner leaded glass!
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you Sophie for your video ,again I have learned a little bit more, tucking the lead under the outer lead piece. I have tried before to do mitre joint not very sucessfully this looks better, do you get a lump where the lead goes under the other lead ?
No. The solder is by far lumpier.
Hi Sophie, thank you soooo much!!! I really enjoy and learn from your videos. I have a quick question For the framing of your project, I'm curious to know why you use a double channel lead instead of the 1 channel framing lead? Because I am using a 1 channel only and it makes it very difficult or impossible to tuck the 2 channels inside the frame. Thanks in advance for your response
You need a nice wide lead on the outside for 2 reason: the first reason is aesthetic; to ensure that the lead is still visible after it is bedded into the frame rebate and she second reason is practical; if your panel is a little too large, you can trim the outside chanel down for a good fit. I'm not sure what problem you are having with your H lead. You just make your panel to the size to accommodate it. I hope I have understood the gist of your questions correctly.
Hi thanks for the info can you tell me we’re I can buy the lead cutters from please..?
Thanks
Colin
I got mine from Reading Stained Glass but you can get them on Amazon www.amazon.co.uk/,Gasket-45°-135°-Trunking-Scissors-Including/dp/B097R5TWBF/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=1W9K97DIFMS89&keywords=gasket+cutter&qid=1653462209&sprefix=gasket+cutter%2Caps%2C57&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzUEVIQTBaOUgzRUxMJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNzQ4NzUyMjM0R0pMOUEyVkJCQyZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMTYyNzYwUEVJMTdSQ1Y3VERTJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
What is the name of the highest cutter you use for cutting the lead?
Highest?
Is that plywood underneath?
yes
What is the name of your lead cutter please
Not sure of it's name. It's a little like a gasket cutter.
Outstanding
:-)
Very good!
Where's the subscribe button to subscribe to this channel ???🤔🤔
It should be fairly obvious - under the video. Try on a different device?
Dang....i came here to see how you place the paper distance from the wood. Didnt show it.
Try this video: ruclips.net/video/mgf0Hb2NxcA/видео.htmlsi=Ge6F_t89TgoKw-wD
The interior should've been soldered and the border camed...you had BEAUTIFUL curves and borders that would've shown well if you foiled/soldered...but you covered up the majority of the the slim/slivered glass with came.
I'm sure you're right.
The student wouldn’t have learned much about leading with came if they’d done that would he?
I must admit 'stretching the lead' by leaning backwards, bodily, in front of large plate glass windows does not look like the best idea from an H&S perspective. 😮
Yes, I do wonder if I'm going to fly backwards one day!
Sooner or later,,, someone going to be re-glazing your patio door, where stretching the lead, and go's flying through it ,,,,,, good future project and video lol......
That has crossed my mind!!!

He's only a beginner!
Why in the world are you putting a broken piece of glass in this?!
Well sometimes it's just a matter of pragmatism. I agree that it was far from ideal but the piece was decorative, not architectural so didn't need to be waterproof. We were running out of time - he'd arrived 2 hours late and I just couldn't stay with him for much longer, and he was getting quite fatigued.
@@SophiesStainedGlass👋 I thought it was a great option and it was not obvious at all.
I cringed when I watched that young guy pulling that lead so hard..if he let go and slipped he would have gone straight backwards through that window..!!
That would have been unfortunate!
Sorry, who on earth taught you to work like this , it’s such a mess.
It was his first go!
