Your talking to the hardest of Rush fans. I was in high-school in southern Ontario when Rush started taking off. We followed them and Max Webster everywhere. Neil and I each lost a daughter. I feel like I do have some understanding of his grief. I'll write you more later. I've been on every Stones tour since the 70's, Charlie and I had several talks over the years. My favorite picture is him and Neil reaching out to shake hands at the SARS show in Toronto. The 2 greatest drummers the world has ever seen.

40 years. 40. They filmed every single show ~2200 of them. Wrote 175 songs. Same manager. Same crew. All best of friends. Produced tidal waves of brilliant music. They are alone in the stratosphere they will forever inhabit.
Yep. A lot of bands will only sing certain parts of songs during soundcheck, especially if they've been singing them for 30-40+ years nonstop. You're just checking sound levels and don't need to constantly sing!
It sucks to be the singer of a band that has such a long career. The guitars and drums are always going to sound the same but the singer has to magically maintain a voice for decades.

I always check the news last thing at night before I go to sleep (I'm in the uk) and I remember seeing it pop up as breaking news and it was hours before I slept as I played rush songs to my wife! R.I.P professor and R.I.P. Rush!
So slick and professional. Rush are my favourite band, I discovered them when I was 19. I am now 57 and still listen to them everyday. Enjoy your retirement guys, you are the best.
When you think of how original and unique that solo is - it truly is his best ever. He's often said it was his best (along with surprisingly the solo in The Garden).
99.9% of other bands' sound checks : Some roadie saying «check, one-twooooo, one-t-t-t-t-ow, ch-ch-ch-check», and then some guy playing a standard C-chord and another hitting the snare for like 15 minutes. Rush's sound check : perform a classic song with intricate time patterns to perfection, all shot with pro-level camera angles and movements.
My intro to them was mid-eighties when my guitar playing friend whipped this guys out and blew my mind. Blew my mind again when he told me it was only 3 guys. Many,many great memories of road trips and get togethers with these guys playing in the background. Every time I hear them its not just a song that plays,but the images in my head AS the song plays....that's what's so great about them for me. Forever linked to the soundtrack of my life...this is RUSH. rest in peace neil,you have millions of brothers and sisters wishing you a sweet journey into the unknown. I can only imagine what you're writing about now.......:)

In an era of Rock Super-groups Rush stands out. I remember in the 1970s I had this thing called a turntable that played flat round vinyl discs. ........2112 !!! Permanent Waves Spirit of the radio was truly magical, I had it recorded on cassette tape and had it on vinyl. I wore them both out for years and years. At the beginning of the new decade and the Reagan era Rush pushed the gas pedal to the floor with its own progressive rock high voltage musical style, along with Neil's exceptional visionary lyrics. Moving pictures album, Tom Sawyer, Limelight, Vital signs. Signals album, New World man, Subdivisions Grace under pressure album, Distant early warning, Red Sector A. Power Windows album, The Big Money, Territories, Manhattan Project. Rush rolled the bones and won big as Rock Superstars. Many fans would agree Rush worthy of a Canadian Mount Rushmore. Millions of music fans are eternally grateful.
I will never forget these guys until the day I die. I must of listened to every album from Moving Pictures on beginning to end at least 100 times each. I was lucky to catch them live at least four times starting with the 1987 Hold Your Fire tour. Their music and inspiration has been a very big part of who I am today. Thanks Geddy, Alex and RIP Neil. Gone, but NEVER forgotten.

Yes, and John Rutsey was an original founding member, and was a gifted drummer, before the amazing masterful drummer Neil Peart. Neil wrote some amazing songs, as well as being one of the all time best drummers in rock history. I believe that he also played piano and guitar....
its such a treat to hear this soundcheck version - I wish I could watch the whole soundcheck ! Would also love to see how these guys rehearsed. Its incredible how faithfully they reproduce the album version of this song - even down to the slight pauses and accents in the rthythm. Rush never used tricks or gimmicks to help them achieve their live sound just brilliant brilliant playing.
They all worked very hard to achieve their success and never took it for granted. They always appreciated their fans and gave 100 percent during their shows. So many bands want to be rock stars first and musicians second and wind up being a washed up burnt out joke of their former selves .
So much energy when they got on stage in front of people, but the quiet discipline and thousands of hours of hard work that was needed behind the scenes to create it, unbelievable.

Thank you so much for this. The clockwork angels full tour video only has a part of the soundcheck. Lifeson and the band in full glory. The chorus, the solo, the bass, the drums, the composition, the sound so much to be told about what the band has for achievements in their one lifetime. One can only dream of such accomplishments.
I saw the sound check in Charlotte. 2012. Surprised they filmed it. in Charlotte, you were told. NO CAMERAS or you are gone. they did 3 tunes for about 20 of us. Geddy walked in with a Starbucks cup, they were unreal. Most surreal feeling. Sitting with 20 guests and getting what felt like a private show.
South Park This looks like a pro film job by the crew. They were likely using and testing out the camera system they would use to record footage for the Clockwork tour DVD. How it got on RUclips is another matter, haha!
Out of all bands that I know.... of all them, these men are the greatest to grace a stage anywhere. It wasn't just their skill, creativity and attention to detail... but their absolute humility... priceless. There will never ever be another band like Rush. I thank God for what these men have given to us... I miss Neil every day. You are loved Neil Peart.. more than you ever knew till now Rest in peace...

One of my Fondest Memories going to concerts, besides our front row tickets to Lynyrd Skynyrd ZZ Top, was the time we all walked into the Palace of Auburn Hills, what are four tickets right near the back on the floor. I walked up to the ticket managers window and asked if there was for any closer I could trade, they put us up in row 11 center, for the exact same price! Let's just say I was King for the night! Somebody may have just within minutes or so canceled on the four seats, and put them up for sale on the computer. It was the tour that they played the entire moving pictures album after the intermission. What a night.
I was there for the first show, been a fan since 1977. Started playing drums after Moving Pictures came out because of Neil’s playing and now our son is working on his Doctorate in percussion! Thanks Neil, rest now you certainly have earned it!

It wasn't just their skill, creativity and attention to detail... but their absolute humility... priceless. There will never ever be another band like Rush. I thank God for what these men have given to us... I miss Neil every day. You are loved Neil Peart.. more than you ever knew till now Rest in peace...
12/16/85 - Grace Under Pressure Tour at Capital Centre. 16 years old. Went with group of high school friends (one who turned out to be wife of 25 years now). Magic that night. RIP Mr Peart. Thanks for everything
Neil will always be a level to strive for for many drummers to come. A true master musician just like Geddy and Alex.
Now that Neil is gone. I have a new appreciation for for the songs of Rush.

One of my Fondest Memories going to concerts, besides our front row tickets to Lynyrd Skynyrd ZZ Top, was the time we all walked into the Palace of Auburn Hills, what are four tickets right near the back on the floor. I walked up to the ticket managers window and asked if there was for any closer I could trade, they put us up in row 11 center, for the exact same price!
Let's just say I was King for the night! Somebody may have just within minutes or so canceled on the four seats, and put them up for sale on the computer.
It was the tour that they played the entire moving pictures album after the intermission.
What a night.
I was there..!!!!! Every concert they ever played in Detroit..since grace under pressure...both nights even..
I was there for the first show, been a fan since 1977. Started playing drums after Moving Pictures came out because of Neil’s playing and now our son is working on his Doctorate in percussion! Thanks Neil, rest now you certainly have earned it!
