The only name that Red John wrote with a title is his own. He didn't put "Agent" behind Bob Kirkland or Ray Heffner, or "Director" behind Gale Bertram. His arrogance betrayed him slightly in this video when he wrote "Sheriff" behind his name.

I subscribe to the argument the show has always made that there is no such thing as psychics, just people who pay attention and who have access to information that makes us think they know things they couldn't possibly know, when they really could know them because they are facts.
The timing is wrong for Red John to be "psychic". Patrick didn't narrow down the list of names until AFTER Lorelei died. So how could Red John have picked it from Patrick's mind if it wasn't even IN Patrick's mind? All this means is that Red John had more time on his hands, so he was able to narrow down the list before Patrick. It wasn't until Patrick locked himself away with no interruptions that he was able to do it. And as for Red John knowing everyone Patrick shook hands with - that's plausible. He kept very close tabs on Patrick to both keep him safe and know everything he was doing. He had spies everywhere, and he knew every single case Patrick worked on, so he knew that Patrick would have likely shook the hands of every person of interest, law enforcement involved, etc., in those cases. And as for the "happy memory" he killed, Red John probably did such a thorough background check on Patrick Jane to know everything about everyone from his past, and it's not such a stretch that a little girl that he grew up near, who was a family friend, would have a fond association in Patrick's mind. He probably could have found dozens of people like that, but she was useful because she was far enough removed from his current life to not draw too much attention. Notice that he never harmed Teresa Lisbon or her team despite having plenty of opportunity to do so, because he wanted to give Patrick a false sense of security.

No that's the exact point. The show operates under game theory. Red John wasn't psychic. He was a genius. Jane is also very intelligent. The issue is they wrote it in such a way that Red John was too capable to possibly lose, thus the pigeon fiasco.

I know jane had details pointing towards fake list of other criminals. But not enough to fool red john.

That would take a very, very long time. Let's say Red John narrowed Jane's theoretical list to just 20 suspects. First of all, how does he know Jane narrowed it to 7? But even if he know Jane had it down to 7, that's by my calculations over 390 million different combinations.

I know this is just a TV show and I shouldn't take it too seriously, but Red John is ludicrously OP for this to be real. He would have to know everyone Jane shook hands with, what Jane's criteria for determining who he is was, Jane's personal knowledge of each man he suspects and know how many men Jane suspects.
Unless RJ has unlimited resources and has been literally watching everything Jane's been doing up until now(and where would he find the time to do all this between sleeping/his day job/hunting and killing women), there simply is no way he's so smart that he can just determine Jane's list like that. Giving the villain omnipotence like this just takes me right out of the story.

By probability the list would be empty, a random person would have an alibi for at least a single murder. 3 of the suspects were in his organization, obvious front men, another two were in visualize which he is incredibly secretive and he has connections with. There are weird things about that list. Unless i mistake, but Jane met Bob Kirkland AFTER Lorelei told him they shook hands. Bob Kirkland was introduced in the same episode and he was looking for Jane with Lisbon. And Patrick never shook the hands of Smith or Macallister (not yet, they shook hands when Macallister saved Patrick's life on the roof of the church, but that was also a lot later). I don't think he shook Partridge's hand, the later has always been totally scornful to Jane, maybe Jane shook his hand and we didn't see it. I'm not even sure Patrick shook Stiles hand. He did shake Haffner's hand (the irony is Haffner was the only nice honest guy on the list), but otherwise the list doesn't really make sense. But it's still a great scene and a great tv show.

After epic scenes like this, and yes he was really really clever. BUT after how he died and the explonation, for me at least, Red John was dissapointing. Literally any1 else could have been a better Red John. I liked the idea of RJ is Jane. He has a split personality and imagining RJ all along. Jane's smile is very similar with the paintings on the wall 😊But this was just my version of the show. This would have been a very dark ending, but for me would have been a better one.

Okay, he obviously got the happy memory part from Jane's psychiatrist but there are only two ways he could have guessed the list.
Either he spied on EVERY action Jane took, and recorded logs or videos of them (because no one in his network would bother to report he shook hands with the pizza delivery guy or even if they did Red John would not care to remember). Then did the same investigation Jane did.
Or he made Lorelei say all the possible names and then edited the video to say only them after he spied on the list.
Both are hugely unlikely in my opinion. He can't have made Lorelei say all the names in existence. The writers made this a mess I think. The most likely way would be some kind of deepfake technology but it should be even more advanced than it is now.

@Arjun Kumar Interesting, but still not possible. It's been a while I watched the show but IIRC red john shot the video before Jane even thought of the list himself, so it couldn't have been Lisbon telling about the list.
