Aprilia priced themselves outside of their category. They should have cut the electronics out and slashed 2k off the bikes price. It would still be at the high end of the 650 class, but it would actually compete price wise. What these reviewers dont seem to understand is that a customer will look at price above all else. You cant realistically compare the 660 with the other 650 class bikes when it costs more than a zx6r…
@@Stratocasterhead51 Exactly. ABS and a simple TCS with 2-3 settings(+”OFF”) off would be plenty. The electronics on the Tuono 660 is overkill for a bike with “only” 95 hp.
Proud 3rd generation SV650 owner here. Definitely deserves better than last place considering it beat out the FZ-07 in a 2017 comparison from another magazine, but yeah it was almost obsolete the day it was introduced. Still a great bike though. I do miss the torque of the MT-07 engine and that bike is more comfortable for me, so I may end up with a second gen one of those soon. Definitely need to test ride the Trident and Tuono.
I started riding this year on my first bike, the FZ07. I love that bike, I did loop it but I really love riding it as I grow into it. I do prefer the look of the FZ07 over the updated MT07 version and the lack of a slipper clutch I do believe helps me become a better rider.
I own the Honda, it really packs a punch once you get above 9000 rpm, but doing so requires basically never leaving 2nd gear and always seems like kind of a chore. Riding it hard is always a bit of a hectic experience. It's super fun and sounds fantastic, but I think my next bike will be an XSR 900, I definitely want more mid-range torque.
I'm sorry, the Tuono is not a naked bike. They can say it is but I can see it ... I get comparing similar cc bikes but there has to be some bracketing beyond cc number. There is 30% swing in price here ... Keep it up guys, good effort, good idea, poor selection.
Good comparison. But I am not a mainstream rider. I'm pushing 70 and don't ride aggressively in the twisties anymore (I like a nice relaxed ride). I am 5'-10" but seem to be getting shorter every year. I don't need the most power but I appreciate torque. I don't care what my bike sounds like. So it's the Kawasaki Z650 for me. Love the slipper clutch and the large TFT display. My second bike would be a Triumph T100.
Rode a 2017 FZ-07 on The Big Island. Too much fun and that engine! I would pay the MT-07 SP price. Rather have it than a MT-09 SP. Or new R7 chassis/suspension updates on a naked. If I were going to spend the $$ on Aprillia I'd get a KTM/890/R or a MT-09/SP. Triumph sounds great but not into its look and I despise those floating back fenders. Hard to disagree with these pros. My favorite review, recently.
It's a different bike for a totally different type of rider. While power is nice but the tech and chassis are superior on the rs660 or tuono 660 it'll be much more want to ride them on the canyon roads or the track. Also, there is a unique feeling of owning an Italian bike.
@@kronikinsomniak It's much lighter and more compact chassis. Rs660 handles much better. I've ridden 2019 gsxs1000 and rs660 you cannot compare the bikes, gsxs1000 is a sledgehammer and rs660 is a fillet knife. I do agree that gsxs1000 is one of the best bang for your buck bike but you don't buy italian bike if you seek the best bang for your buck, you buy italian bike if you want peak performance and a lot of bells and whistles on your bike.
Lovely machine Trident. Never thought I will ever say anything like this about Triumph. Always struck me as an old man motorcycle brand, but they do kick ass nowadays with Daytona and Speed triple in their line-up!
I don't know why, but the music gives me serious LoTR vibes like these guys are about to battle a massive army from the seat of their trusty mechanical steeds.
Thanks for your comment. We chose to define middleweight bikes by their displacement, like most people do, so it fits just fine. That said, the Tuono is neither fish nor fowl when it comes to categorizing it
@@EvansBrasfieldMotojournalist People who shop for bikes look at price more than displacement. If a tuono 660 is similar in cost to a z900, a ktm890 or a mt09 then thats what you should compare it with. Aprilia decided to go full yolo when it comes to electronics and priced the bike OUTSIDE of its category. Let them live with their mistake and compare it to what its price dictates it be compared to.
I love my Trident. The crystal white Trident really pops btw (I own the crystal white trident). I've kept and eye on this bike since its official press release. So glad I pulled the trigger on one. No buyers remorse here. Not to many complaints when its only $9K out the door here in the USA. Its a great all-rounder.
@@MaverickAus The Tuono family from Aprilia always had faired front and smaller windscreen. They don't look like your typical naked bikes from the first glance but they're in fact naked bikes the engine is not covered with fairings and they have handlebars instead of clip-on.
These guys have way more experience than I do, but if you're trying to power out of a corner and you're waiting for the power to come on, why didn't you just shift down going in?
Looking at the Triumph Trident's Dyno graph, that is the one I want. If that tip up right before the redline is honest then it has to be the most rewarding to rev out.
MT 07... You showed the graph, but failed to mention... The HP - which was, from idle to about 8K on the tac, the best. The Yamaha had the same advantage in HP, visible in the graph, as it did in torque. I would take it over the rest of these. No disrespect. I would even prefer it over a Hornet or GS-8, though both seem like excellent bikes. That said... A T7 or XSR700 would be my preferred way to get that engine... Possibly, a Fantic 700. SV... Mad respect for that bike and the old V-Stom.
Great to see a review of the 650 class, I was surprised that you put the Trident first as I would consider it to be the least practical bike in the test. If you are using the bike for commuting, where do you carry your lock ? No where to put a bit of luggage for a weekend away, I don't think you can fit a top box. The Honda would be my personal favourite but I'd have the Aprilia if I could afford it.
I don't know whats the deal with flat spot on the US bikes. I've ridden the european rs660 and the powerband is silky smooth and progressive I didn't find it lacking like cb650r. You can totally fix the flat spot with ecu flash and breathable pipe.
@@Fearless154 to certain degree you can slightly improve low torque engines with a reflash ..but it has more to do with Cam profiles and the engineering ... So you can't change that easily. Easier to fix suspension w new springs...
@@curtn7076 The torque is not an issue on the 660 engine but the flat spot is in the middle of RPM which is the restriction in the ECU. it is a nice and grunty engine with a smooth powerband.
@@curtn7076 I agree about mt07 but I don't know why they're saying the trident is torquey. It feels similar to rs660 but the trident engine revs so slowly. You must down shift consistently to keep the power going if you don't it will take a while till it revs back into the powerband, If you're not on point with your shifting you'll struggle to ride it on the canyon roads. Test ride both bikes back to back you'll see.
My 2017 SV650 is a great motorcycle, and quicker 0 to 60 than the Triumph (according to a test by some Austrian RUclipsrs). If you are going to rank these bike by how new they are, then ok, the SV is 6th. But I've ridden an FZ-07 and the torque is annoying when you first twist the throttle. I like my SV more and more each time I ride it. My legs are too long for the Z650. The Honda, I don't want to rev the snot out of a bike to get to the power. The Aprilia, that's a lot of money for a flat spot.
@@1990-t1j Lots of torque is great, but it came on too abruptly, at least it did on the FZ-07 I rode for 3 days. I don't need all the torque at 2% throttle. Hopefully they improved it. If I were to buy a 2021 MT-07, I'd definitely replace that ridiculous looking headlight. But honestly, I would not sell my SV and replace it with any of these bikes. There isn't a big enough performance difference.
60mph isn’t that fast and these bikes are close enough as such that the one that’s fastest to 60 is the one you can launch best and wind out 2nd first on. 0-60 is a dumb stat for bikes especially over 600cc
It's funny. I live in a country with not a lot of wide open roads and traffic conditions are really chaotic, and reviewers loved the peaky nature of the cbr over the Trident since those kind of bikes are less common here, and the KTM singles dominate
So...the KTM 790 Duke R doesn't fall within the parameters of middle weight Naked bikes. Pretty much means, it's the redheaded step-child since the 890 Duke R arrived....lol
Too bad my new street triple 660 s was ruined in 2 weeks, and triumph is taking no responsibility . Guess the warranty is just for show. Over heating, ticking, randomly shutting off while riding, not starting.
Sorry to hear, I had a tiger explorer 2013. Had same issues...really liked the bike, but engine sounded like a bag of nails when hot. Ill never buy a triumph again.
just look at MT07's dyno graph ! nothing comes close to its power until it dies off at the redline, then only comes CB and Aprilia. Thats an astounding power.

What these reviewers dont seem to understand is that a customer will look at price above all else. You cant realistically compare the 660 with the other 650 class bikes when it costs more than a zx6r…
@@Stratocasterhead51
Exactly.
"Rambunctious around the house" 🤣 hilarious as always! Great content, and thank you for this "public service"!
Would have liked to see how one of the Husqvarna 701s fell among this group.
Definitely… and the duke
@@JackS55555 There isn't a Duke 690 now.
Probably on its side I’d guess
@@1990-t1j they still have the 690 smcr,
Just not the 690 duke
Would have done very well in the tight stuff
picked up my Trident 9 days ago, in love!! haha
I started riding this year on my first bike, the FZ07. I love that bike, I did loop it but I really love riding it as I grow into it. I do prefer the look of the FZ07 over the updated MT07 version and the lack of a slipper clutch I do believe helps me become a better rider.
Had an ‘06 SV650. One of my favorite bikes ever. You can upgrade the suspension if you wish. That engine was so good.
Thank you so much, I love these comparisons! Can you please do more of these? Like the supersports or the other naked bikes. Thanks again!
Great bikes.
The best of this battle:
Best overall: Triumph
Sporty: Yamaha
Value: Suzuki.
Period.
Love the heroic music….LOL. Its like you are actually doing something
How is the Aprilia naked?
Not to my surprise. Aprilia already had recalls on the 660 engine.
There are always bugs to work out for new engine design first year bikes for most manufactures
Watching this and the development of humans at the same time proves that evolution is still strong.
I'm sorry, the Tuono is not a naked bike. They can say it is but I can see it ...
I get comparing similar cc bikes but there has to be some bracketing beyond cc number. There is 30% swing in price here ...
Keep it up guys, good effort, good idea, poor selection.
I'm in love with the CB650r
What a lineup. This is definitely a cool segment of bikes to choose from. My first bike is an R3, and I cant wait to step up the game. Cheers.
CB650R for me. 4 banger + that look
SV650 have a nice old school feel and plenty of aftermarket parts
Fantastic video guys, spot on analysis and great insights on each bike!
For Tuono 660's price, you can have GSX S1000... What would you choose?
The GSX is such an insane deal for a street naked.
Depends if you want to brag about your bike power or you want to actually ride the bike
It's a different bike for a totally different type of rider. While power is nice but the tech and chassis are superior on the rs660 or tuono 660 it'll be much more want to ride them on the canyon roads or the track.
Also, there is a unique feeling of owning an Italian bike.
@@Fearless154 You are way overhyping the 660's chassis. Its solid but its not a step above. The GSX has a full aluminum twin spar frame.
@@kronikinsomniak
It's much lighter and more compact chassis.
Daytona & Street triple have been out for 15 years
I don't know why, but the music gives me serious LoTR vibes like these guys are about to battle a massive army from the seat of their trusty mechanical steeds.
The Aprillia is not priced in this group its priced in line with street triple rs and 890duke r
Thanks for your comment. We chose to define middleweight bikes by their displacement, like most people do, so it fits just fine. That said, the Tuono is neither fish nor fowl when it comes to categorizing it
Agree why on earth put that bike in.
My favorite class of bikes.
Thank you!
Yamaha needs to put the suspension off of the new R7 on this bike.
True. I am not sure about R7. But if Yamaha upgrade MT07 with the suspension and brake from R7, it would be perfect!
@@msj5997 The R7 is just a bit too aggressive of a riding position for me. Looks good though.
I love my Trident. The crystal white Trident really pops btw (I own the crystal white trident). I've kept and eye on this bike since its official press release. So glad I pulled the trigger on one. No buyers remorse here. Not to many complaints when its only $9K out the door here in the USA. Its a great all-rounder.
no KTM?
the 690 dosn't exist anymore in the North american market
Trident. Premium bike. Triple is a great engine. Love underbelly exhaust
Ranking on the website is different from what on the video. At least for the 4th and fifth place. I love the cb650r though.
The Aprillia is a naked bike?????
There are two of 660 bikes. RS660 is fully faired sport bike and tuono 660 is a naked version.
@@Fearless154 the one in the video, doesn't look like a naked bike
@@MaverickAus The Tuono family from Aprilia always had faired front and smaller windscreen. They don't look like your typical naked bikes from the first glance but they're in fact naked bikes the engine is not covered with fairings and they have handlebars instead of clip-on.
Great video. I greatly appreciate them in time and hard work that goes into these longer large comparisons. Keep up the good work.
Time for an updated video in the Super Naked category as well?
And skip the Light Heavyweight nakeds?
@@EvansBrasfieldMotojournalist So many categories, so little time...
These guys have way more experience than I do, but if you're trying to power out of a corner and you're waiting for the power to come on, why didn't you just shift down going in?
Looking at the Triumph Trident's Dyno graph, that is the one I want. If that tip up right before the redline is honest then it has to be the most rewarding to rev out.
its awesome, has no flat spots, quite happy to glide away in 5th at 30mph
I tried Tuono 660 , got a lot of grunt 🔥and feels a lot faster then M07😎
Ryan has issue with having to bend his knee more in the Kawi... Yet, one of his favourites CB650R has even much more bended knee angle..
So all the points mentioned for triumph being 1st (suspension, brakes, tech, display, etc) the tuono have them better. But triumph ended up 1st. Lal
Thaiumph fanboys.
Excellent review guys. Great production too
Great to see a review of the 650 class, I was surprised that you put the Trident first as I would consider it to be the least practical bike in the test. If you are using the bike for commuting, where do you carry your lock ? No where to put a bit of luggage for a weekend away, I don't think you can fit a top box. The Honda would be my personal favourite but I'd have the Aprilia if I could afford it.
Hey man. You are right. No cargo room at all. I bought a 20L Kriega bag. You can convert it between a tail or a tank bag.
I have the cagiva raptor 650... I still feel this one can compeed with all of these bikes.
1Triumph, 2Yamaha, 3Suzuki.. because if the engine don't have torque..that can't be fixed...that's a deal breaker for me.
You can use sprockets to manupulate that actually
What is a slipper clutch?
My 2017 SV650 is a great motorcycle, and quicker 0 to 60 than the Triumph (according to a test by some Austrian RUclipsrs). If you are going to rank these bike by how new they are, then ok, the SV is 6th. But I've ridden an FZ-07 and the torque is annoying when you first twist the throttle. I like my SV more and more each time I ride it. My legs are too long for the Z650. The Honda, I don't want to rev the snot out of a bike to get to the power. The Aprilia, that's a lot of money for a flat spot.
If the SV had the immediate shove of the MT, it would be the perfect bike. Torque could never be annoying.
@@organichotdog3807 I like immediate torque because I used to ride an R1100GS and still have a Buell Ulysses.
60mph isn’t that fast and these bikes are close enough as such that the one that’s fastest to 60 is the one you can launch best and wind out 2nd first on. 0-60 is a dumb stat for bikes especially over 600cc
Australia didn’t get the full power Trident - they only got the restricted LAMS learner edition (54hp).
These roads are so beautiful!
I’m a big fan of the triump trident, but I do think Yamaha need to make an mt07 sp, with decent suspension
If only the Husqvarna 701 Supermoto or the KTM 690 SMCR were sold here and I could afford them.
It's funny. I live in a country with not a lot of wide open roads and traffic conditions are really chaotic, and reviewers loved the peaky nature of the cbr over the Trident since those kind of bikes are less common here, and the KTM singles dominate
Why was the KTM Duke 790 not considered a Middleweight Naked?
The Sv650 is a fun, tractable and versatile motorcycle. But it feels too old for other motorcycles
These ass hats have the nerve to call the Yamaha cheap looking yet don't bother to mention that the triumph is actually cheap. Made in Thailand.
just look at MT07's dyno graph ! nothing comes close to its power until it dies off at the redline, then only comes CB and Aprilia. Thats an astounding power.
Same with the MT-09sp. It smokes everything in its class.
Can you do a comparison of the r7, ninja 650, cbr 650, and rs 660?!
Please do the new MT-09, Monster, and 890R shootout. These 3 are really close. On the market to get one
Time to repeat with the new Honda Hornet, GSX 8S and the Tuono Factory.
Ohhh it’s about motorcycles . I just saw Naked Shootout and I clicked. 😬

As a tall and heavy rider I watch these videos like "Lets see the latest generation of mini bikes in nice colors. Man, they look fancy! I wish they were making them in normal sizes too!... Now back to the chopa'..."
Am guessing that to have a semi relaxed freeway jount of say 70-75mph you need a 650cc+ right? Ive ridding harleys for too long and now with kids i dont want to spend that much money but i Don’t want the bike to be screaming bloody murder when I’m doing 70-75 on the freeway what are you guys think
Where is the suzuki s750?
The Honda 650 can’t be “sewing machine smooth” and “buzzy”. It’s one or the other. Since it will spend most of its time above 5,000rpm’s, it’s buzzy.
What about the MV Augusta Brutale 800?
Good one guys. Like the format.
How does a 701 stack up in this category?
