I used to enjoy playing on the castle when I was little. My grandparents lived in Yedmandale cottage

Very interesting! My Scottish great great grandparents were apparently married in Ayton in the 1800’s. Thank you

This is an awesome video❗My Hodgson ancestors were from East Ayton and Seamer. I can imagine they knew this area well and walked along the same paths.

Thank you very much! I really enjoyed it. I've always wanted to go on the tour. In the winters of the 1950's we used to toboggan in the field as children. We also came and rolled our Easter eggs. I remember the excavations in the early 1960's. Jane Sleightholme

My ancestors descend, I believe, from the Evre or Eure family who built Ayton Castle. The name derives from d'Evre. Evre is a village in Buckinghamshire nowadays called Iver.

Has there been any earlier dated finds in the area Chris as the suggested roman road passed to the north of it?

Much further north if the line is with Hutton Buscel

My dads last name is Ayton we have been told that our roots come from Scotland and that our family used to have a big pink castle we thought it wasn’t true because he’s Jamaican but our DNA test says we are Scottish and I now see it wasn’t a tall tale
