Simon took surfing to another level by this thruster concept! I had a 6'5" Simon Anderson board, this was in the 80s! A very good board! Watching this video, he's still got the knack, never lost it! Humble person! Aloha
So great to see Simon getting barelled here, a true legend! I'm just over a week older than Simon, but I stopped surfing almost 2 years ago, hoping to resume it again one day, now that I'm approaching 70.
Simon made me a 6'2 triple glassed thruster backs in the 80's (i“m 6'5) and it went like a freaking bullet off the bottom on a late drop and could run down any one who dropped in. I had been waiting outside at Queenscliff during a QBC saturday clubbie comp and the wave of the day came through. So one of them dropped in heavily and told me f!ck off loudly so I rounded him up at the top of the wave and grabbed the nose of his board and tipped him over the falls. He went down screaming and i rode it back to the beach while his mates crapped themselves laughing. Simon was and is an absolute legend surfer and shaper and his custom boards didn't cost any more than one from the shop.
I learnt on one of his first ones... at Narrabeen. Never forget catching my first proper...small left with the sun setting on the wave in front of me. Changed my life that's for sure! Thank you Simon.
Much belated thanks to the man that opened my mind, gave me my first aha moment- brought drive and turning on rail to my surfing very early in the game- saved me from my crap twin-fin and flaccid, tail slide turns.
my first thruster was one of Simons! I bought it second hand from a shop in Newcastle (Australia).. it had no filler coat on the deck and was very light.. I'm sure it was the board he was riding at 5:29 into ''Blazing Boards'..) I've watched that many times and thought, 'yep! that's it!' I wish I'd never sold that Energy board.. sure, it developed a soft spot on the right rail, where my hand would grab it to duckdive, but it was a fantastic board.. more power to ya, Simon!👍🏆 'regrets, I've had a few..' (Frank Sinatra) PS I'm now 75 and still paddling out... still learning.. still stoked..
I lived at South Narrabeen myself. In the 70'sor 80's not sure when he did this? its 2024 now ,Simon paddled out at 20 foot Beachbreak South Narrabeen ,No one does that kinda thing unless they have the exp and heart to survive 20 foot breaking onto a sandbank below surf !"Simon A " Legend of Narrabeen !
The guy is Obviously a proficient body surfer. Waves are maybe head high plus....he might be trying to let the rip take him out into deeper waters. Waters way warmer in S. D. Than up here near the L. A Ventura beaches.
The world owes that man a lot .....
Everyone owes him a dollar
Yeah Simon ! You still got it. Thanks for the thruster
So cool to see the first thruster king still carving.

L E G E N D. THANK YOU SIR ! your contribution to surfing was truly revolutionary.
high performance surfing definitely evolved with the 3 fin setup, so enjoyable… thanks to a living legend! ❤
Inventor of the thruster. Legend
In 1971, we were glueing little fins outside of the single fin lightning bolts we rode. Not exactly thrusters yet, but we were getting close.
Simon was 65 and getting barreled on a shortboard. What a legend.
Simon, Bells, Easter, Trifin.
My 1st thruster was about 45 years ago. I loved that board . Dang, I'm old, but I'm still surfing. At 65.

Essa é a melhor piscina com ondas que existe, nada mais justo que o criador e mestre do surf faça uma sessão junto com o mestre das pranchas!!!
