We all know what happened in this game, but damn you can’t say that intro doesn’t give goosebumps. NBC played almost as big of a role in saving the NBA as anyone else
yeah that's a bit of a stretch there big dawg lol NBA on NBC was great, but it was saved by Magic and Bird and taken to new levels by Jordan. Wouldn't have mattered where any of those games were played.
Listening to Bob Costas intro these games was the part of my childhood I’ll never forget. The combination of him doing the pregame show, Marv Albert doing play-by-play, Bill Walton on color commentary and Ahmad Rashad on the sidelines, was something special.
I miss when games weren't talked to death pre-game. You had time to think and reflect/get excited about the matchup and that's what made video packages like this impactful.
Agreed. Bob Costas is a little full of himself nowadays, but he was great on these intros. Same goes for Brent Musberger, and my favorite Dick Enberg. They all did great intros. I miss them.
Wow, I can't believe this was 32 years ago, something so different about sports in the 80s & 90s, NBC,CBS & ABC all had there own brands, but they were all unique & special! I'd love more than anything for the Finals back on NBC! Now we're stuck with ESPN, ugh!
I have to agree with you 100%. I graduated high school in 1991 and this era takes me back to the days of my last year of high school and Undergraduate college days. I can say that both CBS and NBC had the best NBA intros. Additionally, we saw the two bitter rivals---the Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls---destroy the NBA Championship dreams of several teams and superstars.
games dont have introductions like this anymore. its all hype music and flashy plays. this intro told a great backstory and brough present day conversations to the forefront and set the stage for what ppl thought would be a great series and it ultimately wasnt (and vindicated phil's comments).

Is that John Paxson next to Karl Malone? Everybody that was in the original version of this intro is here, except for Magic Johnson, who retired after the 1990-91 season.
30 years ago wow I was 14 a finals is no good no more competitive way it used to be the finals need to go back to NBC surplus they had better players back then than they are today

Here’s Jordan for 3 YESSSS. Did you see that look Michael indicating he can’t believe it.
Just watched it. Not one goose bump
Not really. Magic and Bird saved the NBA in the 80's when the games were on CBS...

The golden era of the NBA.
NBA go back to NBC please
They are trying to get it back after their deal with ESPN/ABC expires in 2025
Unlikely to happen anytime soon. ABC/ESPN and TNT are likely to keep it when it comes up for renewal in 2025.

The intros for these NBA on NBC games were epic!! Every game was this intense!
This is when the NBA was at its greatest. Real men playing real basketball. Period.
I miss this NBA, I can't stand today's NBA.
@@hectorlopez1069 Thank god they've finally eliminated "marginal contact" fouls. Maybe teams can play real defense again...

THE DIAMOND ERA OF THE NBA!!!
i think during 90s, that Red laser sound is what people/editors are proud of.
“A spectacular move by Michael Jordan!”
Wrong year

It was 91 NBA Finals
This is the platinum era of the NBA
Coming soon, the NBA returns to NBC.
Air Jordan ripped apart the blazers for 39 points
35 in the first half!!

Costas and the NBA on NBC was the absolute best.

Nobody did the NBA like NBC, TNT is currently carrying the torch for the NBA
anything's better than those nitpickers at ESPN
Can you imagine one of the dolt sports announcers today using the word "caustic" in a sentence? (Edited Spelling Mistake)
You spelt sentence incorrectly

Had posted a comment on this thread about Costas' intros. I wonder if he wrote them or others.
When the NBA was real
I was 9 when this series got played now I’m 41 an the blazers still haven’t been back to the finals
Epic Into by Costas.
Wonder who wrote his intros. Was it himself?
Brent Musburger pioneered that style in the NBA, Bob Costas was the best to ever do it
NBC is going to bid the NBA contact in 2025.
