    I’ve had this radio for nearly six months, and just discovered it can do this. Also discovered that since it can crossband, it’s also full-duplex. Made a few ISS repeater contacts from my tractor-trailer with it. Thanks!

    Thank you so much! I just got my FTM-300D and was excited to get it up and running well. This was my go to Video to get me going. I just getting started in Ham, got my Tech not long ago and so far have accumulated mostly all Yeasu gear. FT-891 and FTM-300d for my base, VX-6R and FT-4X for my HT's. Put up Comet GP-15, MFJ-1868 Discone and MFJ-1779C Di-pole antennas set up. Have a Z-11Pro-II tuner on my FT-891. Just Getting Started! KE8UGS 73's....

    Glad to know it has XBR capability. But it might help those wondering how to use this with a repeater or setup as a remote repeater for multiple HTs to comm. Aka: how to setup the HT with A/B bands UHF/UHF. A VFO to transmit and B VFO to listen. Maybe it’s just me because I live rural and camp remote. I won’t own an HT without dual receive and Mobile that does not cross band repeat. Such an amazing capability that’s so under used because I don’t think people really understand it that well. Not an easy concept especially for newbies. Maybe try another go on explaining/demo more in-depth for your viewers. Love your channel bu the way.

      It does. I just set mine up for this, since my rooftop antenna can hit the 2m SkyWarn repeater downtown Mpls (18mi), but a 2m HT likely couldn't RX (let alone TX) with it from the lower elevation in the back yard. Crossband repeat to the rescue.

    My Icom 2730 had a amended " extra " owners manual that was one sheet of paper on how to activate cross band function. That option was not in any of the selling specs of that radio. Its almost like they don't want you to run it that way. I had to go online to find the sheet of paper to print to put in my owners manual.

    You won't find crossband repeat in the manual. The reason is that in some markets around the world it is not legal to do crossband repeat so they don't put it in the manual. I got that bit of info years ago when I worked for a HAM radio dealer, it came from one of the major radio manufactures , can't remember which one.

    Why couldn't you use a digital (any, kind really) handheld with the ftm300 in crossband repeat? Your handheld would do the digital work, and the Yaesu would just act as a repeater. I can hear, in glorious analog FM, the sound of someone using DMR on my local repeater...what's the difference?

    Eric, I have decided to purchase a FTM-300D after watching your Video. Can you setup cross and repeat mode to transmit into repeater shift Programed on both UHF & VHF Frequencies to link two repeaters during the net time?

      @N4DJC 3 года назад

      No

    • @kelvin0mql
      @kelvin0mql 3 года назад +1

      You can definitely RX/TX with CTCSS & shift on one, and simplex on the other.
      You can PROBABLY do it with a shift as well on both. Going to test.
      (pushes buttons and twists knobs for a few minutes)
      Yes, you can. It sounds kind of sluggish in my experiment. If it's under or over modulated, I'm not sure if you can tune any parameters around that. The repeater that's being cross-banded TO will probably lose the first 250-500ms of the transmission. Absolutely should not do it without the permission of the control ops of both repeaters.
      In short, I would strongly recommend against it.
      But CAN you? Yes. I just did it.

    Thank you for ALL of your informative videos. Can this radio be used as a hot-spot if I don't have a C4FM repeater in my area?

    • @kelvin0mql
      @kelvin0mql 3 года назад +1

      Yes, with the appropriate additional cables between your computer and the FTM300, I can use it directly into WiresX rooms/nodes - or, separately - it can behave much like a hotspot.
      e.g. I can connect the computer's WiresX software to America Link. Then set the transceiver to a simplex frequency and in a digital mode. Then my OTHER FTM300 in the truck can RX from and TX to America Link from a few miles away.

      I'm not Eric but yes, you can set one of the VFOs to a repeater. That way you can walk around with an HT and talk to a repeater through the 300 via X-band.

    Isn’t this old news? I think my FT-8900 does this? Unless it’s not X-band? I know you can use it as a “repeater” like if it’s hooked up in the truck and you want to use a handheld away from there to transmit...Not knocking on you but (possibly) the commenters if I’m understanding my radio correctly (note: I’ve never actually used this function on my radio).

      The FT-8800 & 8900, both offer cross-band repeater functions. I don't think it will in-band repeat though? Ie: VHF - VHF or UHF - UHF. If any one knows how, let me know.

  • @johndrees830

    But can 1 of the vfos be set to a repeater with offset and tone?

    • @kelvin0mql
      @kelvin0mql 3 года назад

      VFO or Memory. Repeater with offset and tone. Neither, one, or both. I've just done it.
      But please don't connect 2 repeaters together unless the control ops of both repeaters WANT you to. That would be bad.
      Anyway, yeah, I had this exact scenario come up today. Tornado warning. I plan to be 40-50 steps from my shack for the afternoon, but want to listen to the SkyWarn repeater, 2m, 18mi away. FTM300 is hooked to rooftop antenna, can work that 2m repeater no problem. And now my 70cm HT at super duper low power can RX that repeater clearly, and I can TX to it as well. This is probably the most common use case for crossband repeat, and it works very well.
