- Welcome to the main event of my Wednesday-before Thanksgiving 2015 railfan trip: 12 friggin' hours at Princeton Junction (6 a.m. to 6 p.m. [Sunrise @ 6:52 a.m. & Sunset @ 4:31 p.m.]) on the Northeast Corridor. I manage to stay from sunrise to sunset without a single issue. The surrounding geography also makes for great horn action and doppler effect.
My main focus on that day while I was there was to capture all of Amtrak's stopping services (which I did) and at least most of its passing services (of which I only missed 2) All clips were shot with my Apple iPhone 6 with the 60 FPS setting on. More information in the table of contents, as there are over 100 trains in total. Enjoy =)

Can we just appreciate the fact that this guy stood on a platform for 12 hours in the cold so we can have this video
Yep
Yes very much so
Yup
Reasons why Princeton Junction is an awesome station
1. Constant high speed NEC action
2. Rich history
3. 150 years old
4. Constant EMU action via the dinky
5. Access to Princeton via the dinky
6. It has active railway crossings
7. Has the USA railway speed record as well as 2 other speed records (UAC turbotrain has the high speed record for the usa and metroliners have the other 2 records)
8. NJT bus access
7. NJT train access
9. Amtrak access
10. 24 hour heated room
11. Business hour cafe and ticket area
12. Large high level platftom
100% agreed ive been there 4 times and every time was splendid.
i agree.. i wanna go there. but thats kinda the foaming stop ya know, But i wanna visit it. maybe when i go back to jersey with my grandma we could go to princeton junction, Linden is also pretty good too
I’m suppose to be going there on Wednesday on NJ transit
97 trains wow! That's 59 more than what I get on a weekday up here. Awesome video!
It's more than 97... there are a quite a few entries with more than 1 train.
Im gonna do something this summer, Im calling it the Northeast Excursion. Im going to go to hamilton station (my station, lot of nostalgia) at 5:00 in the morning and watch trains until about 7 when i will hop on a njt train to Princeton Junction. I will grab breakfast and lunch at PJs pancake house in Princeton via the dinky and watch trains all day long. Gonna be great.
If you want AEM-7's, they're at 43:39, 47:42 pushing at 48:04, 54:27, again pushing at 58:50 and at 1:11:58
Great video Fan Railer!
And 1:38
Thank you
At least the 939 and 942, but word is that as a single locomotive could not pull / push much load compared with the locomotives numbered 600 and higher.
WOW ! Excellent video ! Thank you for sharing... :)
As usual you do some of the most superb railfanning. I'm just amazed that it's with your phone. Then again now that I think of it my LG K20+ doesn't do 1/2 bad for a similar job. I'll have to try it next time I come up North. In the meantime, thank you for all you do!
Great video! Definitely committed hahaha sunrise to sunset you must be crazy!
I like to say that the line from Trenton to Monmouth is America’s railroad equivalent to the Boneville Salt Flats. So many rail speed records were set here, and everything is tested on this stretch of track.
excellent video........
Damn, 12 hours? That is insane. Still, you got to see a ton of trains with some pretty good stuff. It was cool that the Cab Car leading Train 3918 had flashing ditchlights. That's an incredibly rare sight on NJT. Shame to see that NJT screwed you over a couple of times, especially with 642 and 1181 departing.
I dearly wish the Arrows, when finished at Non Judicial Transit, can find a home across the river.
Love it 😊
29:14 I have never seen those Amtrak engines double head. That's a cool catch and I like the affect of daylight
ACS-64
I’ve seen it three times. Metropark, Rahway, and Trenton.
if we only had that video equipment 70 years ago........
Dick Taylor we did it just sucked
You sir are committed. Any njt workers watching this. Im not an Engineer. Thats my Dad of the same name. He could have been running any of these. Ill have to ask.
Congratulations.
Holidays. The few days when rare catches everyday other day are common
Can we just appreciate how good his iPhone 6 quality is? I thought it was like a Canon or something,
@fan railer , how do you stitch the videos together ? I have the 6+ but I didn't know you can switch the video settings to 60 FPS also ... What exactly does that mean ?
windows movie maker.
44:42 My Favorite"
16:43
Great video Fan Railer! Just a question, how do you know all of the names and numbers of the Amtrak trains? Do you use some type of database?
lol thanks. And it's called reading the public schedule =P
@@FanRailer Wow XD, I thought you used the Amtrak Train Tracker website, (it sucks though lol). Even I can't spend 12 hours at Princeton Junction, even with the passing Amtrak trains with their awesome hornshows.
I think the unknown engine at 1:09:48 was ALP-46A 4634
39:52. EXTREMELY RARE CATCH!!!!!!!
True I've never seen a GP40PH-2 pull the multi level cars and I've also never seen an ALP-45 so that has to be rare
Atlantic city express service returns
What kinda horns do those arrow III's have? They sound beautiful
Wabco AA2
wait. what if there was an amtrak ALP-45DP & ALP46DP passing this station and a PL42AC & a P32ACDM and some different kinds of amtrak train
33:01, I never knew NJ Transit had those types of electric trains
Those are Arrow iii EMU(Electric Multiple Unit) trains. They were running since the 80s and you'll see those cars on every electrified NJT line!
Not in a couple years. They’ll be replaced with the Alstom-Bombardier Mulitilevel III
The dinky
That railfan on the other platform looks like Lenny Shaner.
Like train
Was that an amtrak palmetto at 10:30?
yes
What are deadheads on trains?
Angel GmIng a not in service train that goes back to the yard at top speed
28:32 That's #2151 it's a weekday train. #2251 is a weekend train.
Why are Amtrak amfleet cab cars are rare on the northeast corridor and on every train on the keystone corridor
Because they are Keystone Services
17:14 Why does the Amtrak train drives on the left?
Because it’s going faster than the train on track 3 so it goes on track 2. Fan Railer is standing on the track 1 platform
nice! but 12 hours, damn! if you have a powerbank, it'll be helpful
lmao... how do you think I made it the full twelve hours. I'm way ahead of you. =P #3banks
Calvin H I can't believe you caught a Acela racing a NJ Transit and another Amtrak racing Nj Transit
about 12 hours :0
The locomotive in the thumbnail really looks like br101. I don't know it is or not
It's a Bombardier/Adtranz ALP-46, which is based off the DB Class 101
Excellent video , how many gb's do you have ? I have tons of videos I need to upload check them out sometime .
It's a 64 gb iPhone 6. In total, I shot 15 gb of video in 110 separate clips that I stitched together for this upload.
