Will work with any of these: Windows 7 Pro, Windows 7 Ultimate, or Windows 8/8.1 Pro . Doesn’t seem to matter if you’ve used the key before, as I’ve used the same key to upgrade two different machines.
These are the keys I think some of them Windows key selling sites are using, they are probably from when they have done computer rollout and have surplus keys available to resell, but this is just speculation.

Thanks for this video rather simple but in reality upgrading isn't that simple especially for activation! The upgrade process is quite different from the fresh install of a Win10 Pro from a purchased Win10 Pro key since upgrade's keys from MS are different. Could you please explain? Years ago it wasn't that much of a issue with reinstall, I've done it many many times, but not with today's programs. A lot of my games are steam games, some online only some on disc, it would take me a over a week to reinstall all that crap then update it, plus back up my admin folder... forget that nonsense.

Some years ago, I purchased a CD version of Windows 10. The disk has both Home and Pro on it. Since I had been using the Home version, I selected that without much thought. I also bought a license for the disk. My question is, do I have to buy another license key to install the Pro version?
I have to ask you, with these el cheapo windows keys, if you don't activate it within 24 hrs then the key itself no longer works. And once these keys are activated if you decide in future to upgrade your motherboard then windows will ask you to re-install the cheap key and then it will no longer work. What do you think ?
I read this a few weeks ago when i had same questions as you. So it turns out, "OEM" keys can't be shifted to new hardware because once they are activated, they are tagged with your current hardware. "RETAIL" keys however, can be migrated and doesn't get affected by change of hardware. However, Retail keys are just a lot more expensive than your average OEM key, which can be hard for a mere $5 on Ebay etc.

Just today (01/11/2020) finished upgrading from windows 7 home to windows 10 home. Reading around make me pretty sure that the upgrade would be version-to-version type. Also, once upgrade is downloaded, it shows to what version it is updating to. You can check at that point to exactly what version you are 'about to upgrade' and decide! In any case, if you can buy a key for windows 10 Pro then you can always upgrade from say, windows 10 home to windows 10 Pro. So, best way would be 'free upgrade route' and you would be able to keep your settings/data !

I have a Win10 Home installation linked to my Microsoft account, and when I try to upgrade using the generic retail key that you were using, the upgrade fails with information that Windows wouldn't be activated anymore if I were to upgrade it (which is something I don't mind about, and I do not have a Win10 Pro Retail Key at the moment). Is there a workaround to this ? I note that your version was not activated. Would deactivating my windows prior to the upgrade solve this problem ? If it fails, am I sure that I will be able to re-enable it ? And if so, what is the process to safely disable it without losing it ? It may be useful to note that my Windows automatically activated when I installed it on a brand new empty SSD after removing the broken HDD which hostred the windows install when I bought it, which means that the key is stored somewhere on the motherboard. I had my old pc on Windows 7 Ultimate Edition and had upgraded to Windows 10 Pro... well, that PC died. I bought a new PC by CyberPower, as I didn't wanna build my own system at this time. It came with Windows 10 Home... what would happen if I used that old key from my old PC on the new CyberPower PC? Would it do what you just did and upgrade me back to Windows 10 Pro, or create some real nasty problems?
@Trey Hocker, i also have a pc by cyberpower but it is a game rig, had it since 2010 with win 7 home premium sp1 can't remember, anyways it was and still is a gamer rig, i had it built from scratch for close to 2000$ back in 2010, so had it for 8 long years and counting. I had to upgrade to windows 10 home, at first didn't like it, had problems with it till i gradually understood how things worked out. And now after a few crashes, i am back to windows 10 basic with only 3 microsoft visual c++ updates as the other 2 gives me a Access is denied error.
This is completely pointless because the windows 10 Pro may be installed but it IS NOT ACTIVATED. There is no activation key because it is a bogus version of W10Pro

Update: when you already registered windows 10 any version, you can't do anything update, Microsoft will back up you machine I'd to Microsoft website, noted: (be careful your selection version install.)
You can't use your Windows 10 Home license to install an activated copy of Windows 10 Pro. You need to buy a separate Windows 10 Pro license key from Microsoft or a reputable seller.
My upgrade to Pro was successful but I can never get the Sandbox feature. It never show up in windows feature dialog box. I activated the virtualization and other suggestions I found by googling. Any help please.

Allways backup stuff on different drive

I did this with an old Windows 7 Ultimate key I had saved away in the drawer recently. That works great too as long as you own the key.

First enter product key then click next. Then turn off your Internet and click start

It came with the Win 7 Ultimate CD(that PC is dead), and the new PC came with a Win 10 Home key embedded, I think.. no CD with the new PC

I had to upgrade to windows 10 home, at first didn't like it, had problems with it till i gradually understood how things worked out. And now after a few crashes, i am back to windows 10 basic with only 3 microsoft visual c++ updates as the other 2 gives me a Access is denied error.

Update: when you already registered windows 10 any version, you can't do anything update, Microsoft will back up you machine I'd to Microsoft website, noted: (be careful your selection version install.)

You can't use your Windows 10 Home license to install an activated copy of Windows 10 Pro. You need to buy a separate Windows 10 Pro license key from Microsoft or a reputable seller.

What he is using is a default Windows 10 Pro product key and Windows won't be activated after you restart your PC once.

My upgrade to Pro was successful but I can never get the Sandbox feature. It never show up in windows feature dialog box. I activated the virtualization and other suggestions I found by googling. Any help please.
