I’m glad it worked, windows updates no issue. Uninstall/reinstall audio drivers in device manager or download audio drivers from the vendor and reinstall them.

I have a Dell Optiplex 3020 SFF desktop PC.
It has a Windows 8 Pro sticker on the case, but it came with Windows 7 Pro.
After the Windows 10 Pro upgrade, Windows 10 Pro still would not activate.
I then ran the Powershell script that you mentioned multiple times in your answers below.

The question I have is if I replace the HDD with a SSD and do a new installation of Windows 10 Pro, will Windows 10 activate?
I am not sure whether the Powershell script lets the Microsoft servers know about this PC.
After the activation of this machine , if you use microsoft user profile then the activation key get saved on the MS server. And when you decide to upgrade HDD/SSD and install windows 10 without key and just sign in with the same MS account, it will activate it.
If all fails, just run the power shell again👍

At install I get this message.
"We couldn't update the system reserved partition"? What am I doing wrong?
I noticed a Microsoft office click-to-run drive that I thought was the "reserved partition", got rid of that but it still fails.

@@VitalTechHelper Great help! I actually deleted logs and that freed up some space too. Increasing the partition size will be my next step, but the current free space was increased by deleting the logs from original installation.

I followed your steps, but this method did not work for me. Everything seemed fine with the installation until the very end. Then I got an error message that said, "The system registry contains invalid file paths. Installation cannot proceed. The system image was applied without guaranteeing that drive-letter assignment would match across computers". After that, any changes made to my computer are undone and my computer reverts back to Windows 7. Do you have any suggestions on what I should do?
That sounds like some issues with your registry etc, i would suggest repair install windows 7 first to fix the issues and then try upgrading it to windows 10.

Its not a simple upgrade from a 32bit os to a 64 bit os. Its a clean install , meaning backup everything and then wipe and install windows from scratch 👍

Power it off fully by holding the power button for 10 seconds if its a laptop. Or power down from mains if its a desktop. Reboot and see if it works

Hi , two fixes you could try, first: make sure no external usb devices connected except your mouse and keyboard. 2nd : create a new admin user account and try upgrading from that account, could be a possible user profile issue.
I followed the steps. But my activation status is shown as ""Windows is not activated". I could have installed a non activated version of windows on my own. Is there a way to upgrade an activated win7 PC to activated win10?
This is the way to upgrade and keep the activation but if it fails for you for some reasons then try the following:
1: try activating with the windows 7 key
Or
2: run this in powershell and press option 1 for permanent activation:

It sounds like the copy of windows 7 you have is 32bit , so you need to redownload the windows 10 32bit instead of 64bit.

Hi help please it says that the source isnt designed to run on windows or it contains an error. TRY installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.
It sounds like you downloaded the wrong version of windows 10. If you downloaded the 64bit version, re-download the 32 bit version or vice versa 👍

You will need to backup your data and fresh install windows 10 64 bit. Windows 32bit to 64bit direct conversion not possible .Upgrading from the 32-bit version to the 64-bit version of Windows requires that you reformat your hard disk, install the 64-bit version of Windows, and then reinstall everything else that you had on your device.

You windows 7 is 32bit (x86) therefore, You need to download the windows 10 32bit iso as well as the 32bit of 7zip

Try the following:
Check you software Installations. endpoint protection or Security software blocking changes to system drivers. Remove it and try again
And be some missing drivers on intel chip-set. Install all drivers
I tried again and still failed.

Check if you have windows 32bit or64bit by searching for system. And then redownload the correct windows.iso file accordingly

Hi, it still works and many have successfully upgraded. I think you need to cleanup disk and check disk for any issues. Make sure uninstall any security softwares before the upgrade. Also, make sure no external storage or devices are connected to your pc. And restart before upgrade👍
