  • Welcome to Part 16 of my Lost in Europe Series. In this VLOG we'll be exploring Skopje, the Capital of North Macedonia. This episode has a bit of crossover with the last one, but with a bit more info I picked up from the tour, and then we'll also check out some of the backstreets outside the city to get a glimpse into life in Skopje.

Those buildings aren’t actually fake, there was an earthquake that flattened the city and these were what the buildings looked like before it. Macedonia and Skopje actually look like they are improving a lot.

There was also a big earthquake in North Macedonian history proclaiming yourselves as descendants of the ancient Macedonians when infact your a bunch of slavs residing with Albanians who've built more mosques in Skopje than Islamabad..

That’s not true. Only the theatre and one more buildings were there before the earthquake. Rest of Skopje 2014 buildings are totally new and you can check and compare to old photographs and see the difference.

The sunburst symbol was an ancient Greek symbol that was illegaly appropriated from the Greeks by the Gruevski regime of the Republic of North Macedonia in 2006. The sunburst symbol cannot be used by the Republic of North Macedonia on their flag as it is now WIPO protected, and is designated as an important tangible symbol of ancient Greek culture and history, that is, Greece has copyright over its use, the sunburst symbol was used by the ancient Greeks as a decorative symbol throughout ancient Greece from Macedonia in northern Greece to Lacedaemonia in southern Greece. The name "Macedonia" was also appropiated from Greece by the Yugoslav Comintern and Marshall Tito in 1945 because Yuigoslavia wanterd to invade and annexe the historic region of Macedonia in northern Greece giving Yugoslavia the port of Thessaloniki and access to the Aegean sea. Until 1945 the Republic of North Macedonia was in fact the Vardar Banovina region of southern Serbia. In 1945 Marshall Tito changed the name from Vardar Banovina and into the People's Socialist Republic of Macedonia.

Dear traveler, sorry you are mistaken. You are not in Macedonia. You are in the North part of it. Comical that they have the statue of the Greek king there. You know, nobody can change history, it has been already written 11 centuries before the arrival of the Slavic nations. If they claim to be Macedonians why they don't speak Greek ? What is all that seek of identity ?

You say you don't want to get involved with politics, but you are being overtly political by referring to the country as Macedonia, which is not their official and correct name. The politicians in North Macedonia agreed that their country will be known by North Macedonia, but you are not adhering to that and showing your political bias. It's North Macedonia because the ancient and historical part of Macedonia is a province of northern Greece. The same place where Alexander the Great is from and the Vergina Star was found, which ridiculously has been appropriated by the nascent northern state. You don't seem to know much about politics and history. Try to educate yourself before you make videos for others to see, otherwise you come across as clueless and the ultimate amateur.
The new 'classical style' buildings are also a joke and testament to the fakeness of the identity, as they do not follow the proper mathematical ratios and rules of classical architecture which derive from ancient Greece and that's why they look somewhat odd and unbalanced. Also, many Albanians that I have spoken to feel that they are treated as second-class citizens in North Macedonia and point to Skopje as a city that purposely erected lots of statues, which apparently is an affront to their Islamic religious sensibilities, sort of like rubbing it in their faces. You also went to the Albanian quarters, as it is known by the locals, not the Turkish quarters, even if the mosques are of Ottoman heritage because of course the Turks brought Islam to the Balkans, which many Albanians embraced. Not all, as others, such as Mother Teresa was an Albanian Catholic, not North Macedonian, and if you had done a bit of research you would have known that and made it clear. Try harder next time!
