+MrZm0geliS I have a Steelseries USB Soundcard "7.1" And a Takstar Hi2050 (3.5mm) Is worth it to use the USB Soundcard on the Takstar or should i use the P2 and say, fuck this USB Soundcard? PS: I use a onboard audio "Realtek ALC898 codec" Ty
I love this channel. Not only are your videos fleshed out and very detailed, but you also update your descriptions to be as helpful as possible. You deserve tons of subs.
Dude you are a huge help. I've watch hundreds of videos on audio, and yours are best to understand and the quality of your RUclips tells me that you know what you're doing. Thanks
I told you I was going to stay tuned in for this. This was extremely informative. That multi-meter was really very helpful as we were able to see exactly what power was being delivered to the mic via the cord from the sound card. The Sabrent products out performed the rest by passing in the volts delivered and the lack of background noise tests. However, some others did do okay when it came to the background noise. While others were excruciatingly loud when it came to the background noise. I also could not believe how much the percentage difference was between these sound cards. I mean, from the Sabrent products and a few others, it was like a 74% to 84% hike in gain to get the same volume. That's a big whopper of a difference. I wonder is the Sabrent sound card a German made product. I was shocked at how the sound card by Audio Technica performed---very shocked, indeed!!! I have to put three exclamation marks behind that statement. What I can't figure out is why did the Syba and the Gino 7.1, which provided close to what the Sabrents delivered in voltage to the the mic, clip. It also is a mystery, at least to me, why all the sound cards have pretty much the same voltage going into the sound cards, and yet most of them cut the voltage delivered to the mic by a significant amount . Maybe this was done by the manufacturers to keep down clipping. I don't know. Thanks a bunch for reviewing the Trond and the Optical Shop 5.1. The Optical Shop 5.1 was horrible. I'm so glad you included it in the lineup cause I was looking at this neat looking box on Ebay, but it appear that this is all that it is, a neat looking box. Thanks a million for this video. Two thumbs up and 5 stars!!!
Dude, I just wanna say Thank You!!! You've helped me find a cheap but decent microphone along with the USB audio interface to go along with it. I watched your first video on the neewer nw700 and picked it right from the get go for my twitch streams. my lady ended up buying it for me for x-mas and ill get to use it tomorrow! Thanks again dude! you rock!
I’m aware your description, but I have a setup of a headset with only audio and I’m using a splitter straight into the pc to get audio and mic, and I’m getting static from the microphone when recording. I was wondering if you think plugging the splitter into a usb sound card and plugging that into the computers USB port would help this issue? Thanks!
If your headset w/ mic has the 3.5mm TRRS (3 black bands) you can get this little device which I purchased also and works perfectly. Even recognizes the USB device as headphones. a.co/d/3mFkIn4.
+Podcastage Regarding background noise i picked up a Virtual 7.1 channel sound usb sound card adapter realising its generic branding so basically fake it has a static background noise when i record and i use input and output any idea howto fix it? ;( rlly annoying
Thank you so much for this. I used the 5.1 optical audio interface for some time and I must say it really gave some significant annoying background noise. I have switched to the Behringer audio interface.
+Podcastage if you haven't already, you might consider adding this mic to the poll :) www.amazon.com/MXL-Mics-MXL-TEMPO-KR-Condenser-Microphone/dp/B004OCD7EQ/ref=pd_sim_sbs_267_2?ie=UTF8&dpID=31VvCgnXbtL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR116%2C160_&refRID=0QHC4DC4NGJX9RJBBG7W
I bought the Syba cause he recommended it but it honestly has a horrible background noise when using the mic. You can hear it here 5:45, but I kind of ignored it since he said it was the best option. DON'T BUY IT. You will hear that ringing noise throughout all your recordings.
Christina Wu but today you need usb audio interface because now the standard audio adapters are not designed to pull out the best audio in the world...
just a quick note, the voltage seen on the mic is called mic bias and it is what drives the microphone and in some cases the circuit controlling the buttons (apple headset), pretty much the higher the voltage the louder the signal when compared to the background noise... with certain limitations of course source, I'm a Audio engineer
+amanuense Awesome! Thank you very much! I wish these mass produced chinese microphones had better documentation and listed the mic bias voltage. I also wish these soundcard companies listed the voltage passed through.
+Podcastage i dont see that happening, i assume these companies are testing with electret mics. that is pretty common, even for cellphones (i work on audio for certain phones) mic bias is only 1.8v since that is enough for most electret mics. noise floor is pretty high for the same reason.
amanuense Yeah. These mics are pretty noisy when they're getting about 2.5v but once it's up to ~4.5v the amount of noise deceases a LOT. I think the mic bias is probably around 2v, but to get the best results, a minimum of ~4.3 is required.
Just wondering why these are called "sound cards"? Aren't they just usb to 3.5mm audio jack adapters? Isn't a sound card a bigger and more sophisticated piece of hardware?
Well for some reason a year ago my headphone jack port stopped working on my laptop so I FINALLY decided to get the cheapest solution which is a usb audio adapter and im so glad it works!!!!!!!
I would like to mention that for many years i've been using a "Logitech A-5572A" plug-in usb adapter. I use the above with the BM-700 knockoff studio mic & various headset mics. This adapter has a mono mic input & a headset output which I never use. I am very satisfied with this adapter & never had any mechanical or audio problems with it. I bought another one from ebay as a spare. It works great with the BM-700.
+Horsman4James I know. I can't believe the amount of growth I've had! It's so amazing! And I wouldn't have it without awesome people like you supporting me in the very beginning. So...THANK YOU SO MUCH!
+bjcrosserke Well it's mainly for these videos that I have them. And curiosity. Trying to find out what's the best one and why it's the best one. I think one of the main driving factors is the power making to each condenser microphone that affects the audio quality the most in this case.
+Podcastage Try the Asus Xonar U3! It is the best small soundcard in my opinion and it is also the one I have been using the longest. I would recommend any Xonar U product!
Thank you man, this helped quite a lot. Just had to buy a new USB-audio-adapter because I somehow always manage to break the jack (or the jack entrance) to the PC I'm using making huge problems for me when it comes to loads of things while recording videos. Good video, have a great day!
I have the MXL 990 and I have the same problem at 4:56 - 5:05 I was thinking it was the onboard soundcard from my asus z170-a. I get the same problem when I plug the 1/4" plug into the frontal ports of the case. I was thinking it was just interference from the case so I thought of getting an external soundcard. Not sure which is best..
Wow! thats an a great video! Can u help me...? (non of the good audio cards you chose can be sent to my country (israel I want to buy the bm800 but i dont know what sound card should i buy with it so it will work. Thank you so much!
+Podcastage Amazon does not send to israel... and i dont have that amount of money to spend on a sound card xD Any cheap options you know about...? Thanks again, sorry for spamming like hell :O
"WARNING: I no longer recommend using a USB soundcard to connect a microphone to your computer. ... The only method of connecting a microphone to your computer that I recommend is with a USB AUDIO INTERFACE" I ordered a 3.5 mm lavalier mic, with an adapter for pc. In another video you said not to use a 3.5 lavalier mic. ruclips.net/video/sQkYuljMkCo/видео.html Should I just plug the mic into the motherboard soundcard? Thanks!
Thanks a lot, i was searching a while for a usb sound card because my input for the microphone on my laptop is broken and wasnt sure which is the best. After i find your vid i was happy to see one whos testing those. Now im gonna buy safely the syba. Thanks!
Buying nw 700/bm700/800/8000. Which mic should I choose and which use Soundcard should I use. My country not selling SYBA and Sabrent. I don't have phantom or mixer.
Hey podcastage in this video at 5:50 exactly you went from using a microphone to using something else, and obviously i could hear you and see you perfectly. i would like to ask what is the exact gear you were using once moved to 5:50 What camera, What microphone, what adapters everything... This is very important for me and i will appreciate your answer
Hi, I have recently purchased the sabrent stereo usb adaptor and have used it with my nw-700. I can't seem to get it at the volume you have. I have a windows 7. Is there a way I can make it louder without sacrificing sound quality? Thanks!
+Alec Baldonado I recently purchased a new soundcard because I have heard so many complaints. They somehow changed the build quality and it has decreased the voltage output. The only fix that I know of is probably getting a phantom power supply.
Hi please i need your help with this: I bought the Mxl 770 mic and a micropower ps400 for the phantom power, i conected to my mic with a xlr to xlr to the ps400 and a xlr to jack 3.5 to my pc and its dont make any sound when i speak in it, idk why... i need to conect the jack 3.5 to the sound card usb? ik about the warning of the sabrent i was thinking in use the HDE 7.1 o the virtual 5.1 this will help me with my problem?
NewPsGamer make sure all your settings are correct in your audio settings. If you need help with settings, google is a great place to start searching for tutorials.
Yes and does not detect it ie I speak through the microphone and the bars do not move, I was investigating and I read that the ps400 gives an analog output and that you have to put a sound card to turn it into digital or something like that PS: I really love your videos!
Hey Podcastage! I'm stuck with USB Sound Cards :( I can only bought; HDE 7.1 Plugable Stereo ATR2USB Gino 7.1 ('cause Amazon doesn't send Syba to my country) and i'm gonna use this sound card with InnoGear 48V PhantomPower. HDE 7.1 looks good, but it makes a background noise. (I'm buying a sound card, because you said that 'you still need a sound interface even you had a phantom power'). Is HDE 7.1 would still have background noise when i connect them with a phantom power? And please can you answer quick. Because i need to order immediate. Thank you and sorry for my English :)
Btw, Pluagable Stereo has low noise but it also has very low background noise. I think i should buy Pluagable Stereo and use it with a Phantom Power? Right? (I think the sound will be increase with the phantom power)
There is a USB sound card from Sennheiser included with the PC-146 headset, best has zero noise floor, very clean mic and is driveless. Unfortunately discontinued.
@Podcastage Better than the Sabrent one? Yesterday I ordered the Sabrent sound card and I'm going to test it with the Sennheiser GSP 300. Do you think the sound card is enough for that headset?
is there an updated version of this? Im getting audio ticking/buzzing/whine when moving mouse from my onboard mobo audio when connected to the mixer. I tried friends hyper x USB sound card and that fixed the issue. Wondering what current usb sound card you recommend or whats the best way to fix this audio interference? Thanks man!
Look at my video with which you can solve all those problems, although it is in Spanish you can follow all the steps and it will work. or you can activate the subtitles on youtube and you give it to translate. ruclips.net/video/cFA4giEHclU/видео.html
Hey there bro'! I'm lovin' all of your vids. I have watched so many mic reviews recently and I have to say that I find yours to be the most informative, realistic and unbiased of any that I've seen to date...with consistency. About a month ago I was questioning the USB sound adapter and voltages and a bunch of uneducated theory. Well, I really didn't understand "jack" about condenser microphones and phantom power. I've abandoned my cockamamie theories and decided that you're the SME (Subject Matter Expert) so I'll take your advice and forego the disappointing and embarrassing alternative...my way. With that being said, I'm planning on future upgrade-ability and would really appreciate a bit of your wisdom in my personal configuration I have here. A PM would be more appropriate if and when you may have the opportunity. Keep the great reviews coming!! CHEERS!
+Ted Nicholl You can just ask the question here. I prefer to answer questions publicly as someone else may have the same question. =) Ask away and I will do my best to answer.
Absolutely! Okay, I bought the BM-800 (20Hz-20kHz) with a generic 48V Phantom Power unit. Running this into a cheap audio mixer with volume, tone, echo controls. Now here's where I need your expertise...with the R/L RCA outputs to a single 3.5mm audio jack should I run this directly into my sound card? From what I understand, utilizing the USB sound card option would be better as there would be less hum or EMI from a quality USB device. What's your advice?
Plugging into a USB adapter would be a good cheap option. The other option would be get an interface that allows for an RCA to USB connection like the Behringer UCA222. Will give you higher quality audio. But if you're on a budget, the usb adapter should work well.
Could you also please comment on the audio output quality? Also, there is usually an option to select between 16bit/24bit and from 44100Hz to 192000Hz, could you please comment on the availability and performance of those options? I was originally thinking about buying the ATH but went with WRIGHT instead and am pretty happy with the result, but it has a maximum of 16 bit 48KHz in case of both in and out. Also, since it is a TRRS (2 in 1), the mic input is mono only (doesn't matter to me though) I would like to know how well the others fare and which one is a good idea
Thanks. Two questions you might be able to help out with: 1) How much worse are these 'small' soundcards to bigger, more expensive ones e.g. Tracktor Audio 2 when it comes to playing a DJ set from a laptop? 2) On a macbook pro laptop 2015 [where we don't have any speaker and mic jack separately any more, but one minijack that spits into two] is it possible to redefine the mic input to be used as an output? Perhaps with a software like Soundflower or Jack pilot alike? The idea here would be to connect the 'normal' output to the speakers and the 'redefined' mic input as an audio output for the headphones for pre-listening? Many thanks! k
1) I don't DJ nor have I ever DJ'ed so I don't know what the requirements would be. An interface designed specifically for DJ-ing, I imagine would be a LOT better. 2) I'm not aware of any way to turn the mic input into an audio output.
i'm facing latency issue using this kind (min 2:03) of USB sound card. I recorded acoustic guitar using this soundcard to the Garageband. it was fine for the first 2 minutes, then the latency started to happend and getting worse, so i had to reconnect the USB soundcard, and that the same thing happened. is there any kind of ASIO driver for macintosh to control the latency?
All righty then. After watching some of your videos, the choice was the BM800 for a new mic. This replaced the Snowball Ice that has huge sound leakage issue. Got a phantom power source, hooked into my soundcard, and the volume was very very low, due to the Xonar D2 having some issue with the mic port. So, trying to find a source, came to find this video, got a SYBA, and the results are strange. The phantom power doesnt have any effect (!). The SYBA gives out a low huumming sound. After some tweaking in voicemeeter banana, it can be minimized, but it isnt completely clean like it was in the D2 (albiet, not enough power). But finally, the BM800 sounds great, better than the snowball, even, in my opinion. The sound signature is very very radio. Maybe in the future, I'll get a preamp for the mic, but at the moment, this is how it's running. Thank you for your videos. My last one talks about this and links to your channel. Best Regards
Yeah unfortunately the SYBA does have a low level hum but it is honestly one of two soundcards that I know of that provides any sufficient voltage. Other being a Sabrent (which I don't recommend anymore because of how they handled their previous soundcards) And the difference won't be noticeable unless you use an actual condenser that requires more voltage. Electret condensers require around 4.5v to function so anything over that is not really utilized. Regarldess, I'm super happy to hear you like how you got it working. I may have to check out this Voicemeeter software. I've heard a lot about it.
nice video! could you please give me some advice? I'm searching for a 5.1 usb sound card. I want one in which I can plug 5.1 cables, just like the Optical Shop 5.1. I was going to buy that one before I saw this video. I have a 5.1 home theater. I already use it with virtual 5.1 sound, through a P2 jack/RCA cable adapter, but I want to use it with a 5.1 device in order to get better sound quality. what USB card/adapter would you recommend me?
+Cleison de Oliveira Padilha I have not tested any other 5.1 usb soundcards. I'm sure that the USB soundcard works fine for audio output; it just sucks for microphone input.
no noise reduction or any post processing done. It's a bm800 you buy on amazon...they're all mass produced chinese mics. XLR to XLR is not viable because you cannot connect it to anything. Lucky for you the bm800 comes with xlr to 3.5mm which allows you to connect the mic to the sound card.
what audio adapter/sound card+phantom Power Should i get for my bm-800?? Lov Your Video's and they really helped me and my friends :D Hopefully good information about the bm-800: Specifications: Polar Pattern: Uni-directional Frequency Response: 20Hz-20kHz Sensitivity: -34dB±2dB Output Impedance:150Ω±30%(at 1kHz) Load Impedance: ≥1000 Ω Equivalent Noise level: 16dBA Electrical Current: 3mA Max. SPL: 130dB S/N Radio: 78dB
Hey, great video.. I bought the SYBA... and it's extremely loud. 1% volume is even uncomfortable. I tried everything to fix it and eventually just did a -15dB gain adjustment in equalizerAPO and that fixed the volume but it still sounds... bad. The mic itself is alright but I want something I can use for both input and output if possible. I was wondering if you have any experience with the Antlion USB adapter? They sell it for use with the modmic and they claim it outputs 5v of phantom power. I don't mind spending the money on it if it works... but if not my next option is going to a Creative external sound card and I didn't want to have to spend that much if I didn't have to.
+Podcastage Thanks for the reply. And yes, I've tried messing with that. I'm not sure if I was clear in stating my problem though. The problem is with the sound output through the headphones. The mic input is okay. It's just that the sound output is really, really loud. When I set it to 1%, the windows "volume adjustment ding" sound that you hear... well, it sounds normal. Loud, but normal. It's unreasonably loud at about 4% and anything above that is useless and the card itself cant really get much louder so it just does that weird windows soft-clipping thing anytime something loud happens. I used equalizerAPO (idk if you're familiar with it, but it lets you equalize any audio device) to set the gain on the OUTPUT. Not the mic, but the speakers/headphone out. To -15 dB. That fixes the volume issue. But the sound quality is just bad now. If I turn it up to about 10% (which is now around the same volume as 1% would've been before the gain adjustment) there's a staticky quality to the sound. as if it's being played through a broken speaker. It's like the windows driver can't communicate properly with the card. I'm on Windows 10 btw. That may or may not matter. I'm not expecting it to be fixed I was just wondering if you had any insight as you've been through a lot of these things.
+Music Podcast I have no idea what would be causing that. I tested this out using two different computers and I was getting the ~4.5v on both. It could be that there are differences in production and materials used over time? But honestly, I don't know, that's just my guess. Are you using a USB Hub or plugging directly into your computer? If you're using a laptop, is it plugged in? I don't know if any of these will change the results or voltage that your USB Soundcard is providing, but they're just some thoughts.
+Podcastage I tried both with a USB Hub and plugging it on a computer, they both only gave me 3V. I even tired it on a Mac and it's still only showing 3V.
I also just checked their website and they don't provide any specifications about the adapter, so it could be that they have altered the internal components and it still meets all their internal company requirements. But this is pure speculation.
i think for the puprose of just recording simple podcast, the sabrent is really good, but not very useful in other area. if with only 2% gain you get that much signal then it's clearly too hot. a signal mismatch. for other purposes it would be wise to add attenuation (-10 or -20dB reduction, by means of another device such as an attenuator cable) so you don't stuff the headroom. particularly useful if you are recording higher level of source such (line level) for example if you're taking input from a mixer/cd player.
+ditya.alamsyah Very true and very good idea. That would be very interesting to test out. Do not think many people have the technical know how to set this up. Also, for ~$30 an audio interface can be purchased which is what I recommend now.
+Podcastage well, i've never really encountered this kind of thing before since i've always checked the input source and matched it to where i'm plugging it to, but on top of my head and a brief 'ol google search brought me to this link ebay.to/1VJernt. you plug it between the input of your soundcard and your mic. the more useful thing is to research each type of signal and where we should plug it (mic level, instrument level, line level). there's still much to learn for me too. would love if people can correct me whether i'm making a solid judgement on this or not
That's an awesome looking device. I didn't know anything like that existed. I will definitely check it out. Unfortunately, this is no longer a problem because the soundcard no longer provides sufficnient power.
+Podcastage I already have the zalman and noticed that it only sounds good when you are really close to it. But then you need a pop filter of course and a mic stand. So i got myself some pringles, ate them all, drilled a hole in the lid of the pringles can and inserted a flexible drinking straw. Then i clipped the zalman onto the top of the straw. For a pop filter, i used a strainer and put a very thin layer of foam material in it. Drilled another hole for cable management and there you go! Now waiting for the sabrent to see if it sounds any better than the onboard-crap :-)
Björn Fischer THERE YOU GO! That's awesome! When you get the sabrent and do your first video, I would love to see a video showing this! That sounds so awesome and innovative! =)
+podcastage will using a USB soundcard eliminate any microphone static, noise, or buzzing experienced when using a pc's 3.5mm female mic input? Or is the signal, whether through USB or the 3.5mm jack, still effected the same way?
+somefruitcake a USB Soundcard can improve the amount of voltage going to the microphone which can improve the sound and increase the volume the microphone records. BUT...these companies have changed the components in the soundcards and they do so without announcement that I no longer trust the soundcards. ruclips.net/video/J1v1jtHz4C0/видео.html
Hi, I wanted to play around with binaural Audio and got a "Roland Wear Pro" inear microfon for the gopro. I cuted the USB adapter and soldered a 3,5 mm. Soldering is OK. To my surprise my Sound Blaster Z has only a stereo microfon. (I found one link which mentioned that's a driver issues and the creativbe bastardswont fix it. The Z even came with a stereo microfon) So now I am looking for a cheap usb soundcard which can deal with a stereo microfon. Any suggestions? Any comment about what device notebook,s desktops etc. should have a stereo microfon?
Thanks, man! I got the HDE 7.1 as it was in my setup range ($100), you have helped me to pick out my audio/recording setup! You don't need to read this but, here's the list for my setup Bm - 800 Dragonpad medium pop filter neewer suspension arm HDE 7.1 Each G4000 Really dude, appreciate the help.
+EpicSlambox Hi there! I started this channel which will feature gameplay videos with my friends and me alone and I need a cheap setup too for the recordings in which I talk alone since my integrated sound card is shitty on MSI z97 PC mate mobo. I'm not very familiar with the XLR connected microphones so answer me this: do I buy the mic (going for the SF 920 or BM-800) and the USB sound card (HDE 7.1) only or do I need some kind of power too? I'm asking since I don't see seperate power in your setup. P.S. My channel is in my native language so don't bother watching it. :D
With just the HDE 7.1 you will have to turn your computers microphone input up loud and that will result in background hiss. If you want to improve that, you can add a Phantom Power Supply which will provide more power to the BM800 and it will improve your audio. These USB adapters are only make shift solutions. If you want really good audio, invest in an actual USB interface, made for this.
+Podcastage Is there any cheaper phantom power supplies you recommend, maybe below $50, $70 or $100, I need a good cheap one, my current budget for this is $100.
Bandrew Brother!! I've done some testing of my own, just as you did with a multimeter and my XLR-3.5mm cable. The cards I've tested are the Gino Stereo and two of the HDE 7.1 Channel Sound adapters. What I found is that my Gino adapter is outputting 4.32V and of the two HDE cards I have, one is putting out 4.4V and the other is 2.2V. So....hit and miss really. The Gino adapter came with my BM-800 and the other two were purchased for under $2 through eBay from different Chinese vendors. Just thought I'd let you know my findings and recommend that if anybody has a USB audio adapter to check the voltages through the XLR cable because randomly some cards work, some don't.
+Ted Nicholl Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your findings. This is very helpful to know, and also, not very surprising. I have long doubted the quality assurance of these mass produced, low dollar amount items, and this just proves that point. Thank you so much again, and I hope everyone else finds this helpful.
If you're curious, I've done a review on Amazon.ca for a multimeter and I've attached pics of the tests I claim. Follow the link: www.amazon.ca/review/R2JMSYVBFNVVKK/ref=pe_1086170_134824320_cm_rv_eml_rv0_rv
What is the Voltage that a normal Asus ROG z270e motherboard would give such a mic?(it has some nice shielding for the audio out I hope it does too for the audio in) Would that in-built soundcard be enough for VOIP usage using a BM800?(considering it runs for 15$ in Gearbest and its probably way better than my old webcam MEMS 3.5mm jack mic) That MB comes with some nice realtime noise cancellation software that i'd rather not use but will if i have to... Thank you. PS: Does that Gain option in windows actually increase the supplied voltage or is it just software gain? i suspect it is hw since it does not appear on virtual microphones.
+Podcastage So now with the top 3 adapters all changed which adapter do you recommend? I plan on either getting the NW-700 / BM-700 or the Floureon BM-100FX. Which do you recommend?
Podcastage Ok So I found this bundle, its either the Snowball or This www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015R1U5XS?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=A10AWEQN3FQFMO. Please as I want to make youtube videos and your opinion really matters because I respect your decisions. Thank You Bandrew for your input in this. :)
Cypher1571 If you were to get the bundle, you'd still need an interface, or a sound card. I like the NW700 and the UM2, but for ease I'd recommend the Blue Snowball...better company recognition as well and most likely better support from warranty / customer service.
Buy either Zhilai audio H1 or Muse X5 mini usb soundcard. They use pcm2904 instead of CM108 which has carbage freguency response on audio output typically 20-15khz. PCM2904 goes up to 22khz. All those syba series and another 2$ soundcards uses CM108 chip.
I want to record audio (choir) on the church through mixer, but i am using lenovo laptor which has only audio headphone slot. Please help what device to use ? Thanks
Are any of the usb soundcards you tested able to take input stereo and not just mono? Do you have a recommendation for one that will input a stereo signal? Great stuff!
+David Beaulieu I haven't come across any USB soundcards that allow for a stereo signal. The only thing I could think of would be have two mics, and two USB soundcards, and run the mics in a 90-degree xy setup. But that's pure speculation and I don't know if you could do that. Any mic that you would want to run in a 90-degree xy would probably be a condenser mic, so you'd need two phantom power supplies as well. This would be a MESS to set up I bet.
Thank you for making this. I was just about to buy the Audio Technica. I want to get a cheap USB sound card to fix my EMI issue that I get from using my internal sound card (Xonar Phoebus) but I'm finding it really hard to find something good. I see in your description you've said you don't recommend any now. What do you think I should do? I just bought a pair of Audio Technica ADG1X's ($300 headset). Thanks.
+Podcastage Thanks for the response. Sorry I'm not 100% sure what you're talking about? Is that a brand or... I'm a bit of a rookie. Thanks again. Been watching a bunch of your videos and I subbed by the way.
How was the audio output level on these USB sound cards? I have a cheap one that I can barely get any sound out of with various amplified speakers. Looking for something to use with Raspberry Pi zero, will not be using HDMI.
I'm getting a sf-920 and a Sabrent Stereo for my budget setup. Thank you very much for these videos as they were really informative and useful. I hope I don't get one of those fake Sabrent, I'm getting it from Amazon and the seller is supposed to be Sabrent themselves, so I shouldn't have any problem with it. Anyway, as I said, it is refreshing to hear some cheap alternatives for voiceovers and so appart from "get a snowball ice from Blue". Sure it is a great mic, but it also goes for 66€ + shipping where I live xD.
+Rethern Bornemisza Yeah. There are easy solutions to voiceover work, but those easy solutions are expensive. Haha. Anyone can sound good if they have the money for a good mic. So it's fun to find a way to sound decent with a low budget. I hope you get your hands on a good usb soundcard too. I still don't know what is causing the difference between the performance of some peoples sound cards.
Hello...Good day, I was wondering if you have a video how you set up your Virtual 5.1 usb soundcard, and if i can use my small mixer with phantom power with it.Thanks
I noticed that you no longer recommend using these for microphone setups and such, but would it be okay to use it for just headphones and output? I accidentally broke the 3.5mm output port on the front of my computer case and I don't want to use the speaker port in the back of the case because of how it plays back my recorded audio (just on the left side). I know I can easily edit this to play on both sides, but it becomes a hassle and ruins my workflow. Would it be okay to use this rather than trying to repair the port?
What's the best 1 now as of the date? I need a quick answer i just got a Neewer NW-800 and a Neewer Phantom Power Supply. I need best one for my mic as i do live streaming.
Can you please help with how to connect my microphone? I have an XLR condenser mic (MXL 990) and the 7.1 Channel Sound USB sound adapter. The laptop registers the plugging in of the USB adapter, but when I plug in the microphone to the USB adapter, I'm unable to record sound at all. What am I missing? Please help! Thank you.
I think I found a couple of newer Syba products that are still in the "budget" price range. One specifies the CM119 chipset and the other apparently has a VIA Envy VT1620A codec. Any thoughts on those specs? Cheers!
Hi Podcastage, I just purchased a NW-700 with a Neewer Phantom Power Supply Box (No USB Sound Card) and my mic doesn't sound nearly as good as yours, Any advice? do i need a sound card?
Here is a VIDEO project for you Podcastage. Can you please TEST how all those USB cards work with the Neewer Clip-On Lapel Mic - sound test. I think the review will cater for those of us with no condenser microphones but have lapel mics instead. Cheers
+Kevin CCIE I don't think I can justify testing all of them out again. It took an entire 6 hours to film this thing and then another 4 to edit. I can't justify another long shoot like that for these USB soundcards that I no longer trust. They change too often to justify reviewing because by the time they're reviewed, they are already changed.
hello, im curently looking for usb soundcard cuz mine started to buzz in my right earphone. im using boya by m1 for streaming. so which option is the best for audio quality and decent mic quality. thanks for help

+MrZm0geliS I have a Steelseries USB Soundcard "7.1"
And a Takstar Hi2050 (3.5mm)
Is worth it to use the USB Soundcard on the Takstar or should i use the P2 and say, fuck this USB Soundcard?
PS: I use a onboard audio "Realtek ALC898 codec"
Ty
so which one is the best? xD
Check the video description guys

maaaaaaan u r a legend u r almost the only one who made such this videos
I've come back 3 years later, what a great video.
You're doing gods work, guy. Thank you for making a very informative video. Much appreciated.
I love this channel. Not only are your videos fleshed out and very detailed, but you also update your descriptions to be as helpful as possible. You deserve tons of subs.
Had Virtual 5.1, just received Gino Stereo and it's definitely better.
suP is it good for gaming? Im using hyper x cloud pro, struggling to buy the hyperx amp or other usb soundcard
Dude you are a huge help. I've watch hundreds of videos on audio, and yours are best to understand and the quality of your RUclips tells me that you know what you're doing. Thanks
I really hoped the TROND one would be good so I could get something with my name on it :D
Haha
Sabrent Stereo 5:29

Dude, I just wanna say Thank You!!! You've helped me find a cheap but decent microphone along with the USB audio interface to go along with it. I watched your first video on the neewer nw700 and picked it right from the get go for my twitch streams. my lady ended up buying it for me for x-mas and ill get to use it tomorrow! Thanks again dude! you rock!
+silverkx2000 That's awesome man! Hope you like it!
5:01 it was DC offset :)
Thank you so much! I followed your advice when buying a mic and now I am buying Syba.
Thanks!
yes, using usb will help it, try your microphone once in your friends computer or laptop :) just experiment
@@AnimeNatak I got a usb adaptor and that helped a lot, almost got rid of the static completely😊
If your headset w/ mic has the 3.5mm TRRS (3 black bands) you can get this little device which I purchased also and works perfectly. Even recognizes the USB device as headphones. a.co/d/3mFkIn4.
2020 and still relevant!! Thank you.
Thank you for adding this information. I was wondering.
wow, in the gino 7.1 silence test I thought it was the sound of your phone ringing or something like that...
+MAking Props I know...right? Pretty ridiculous background noise.
+Podcastage Regarding background noise i picked up a Virtual 7.1 channel sound usb sound card adapter realising its generic branding so basically fake it has a static background noise when i record and i use input and output any idea howto fix it? ;( rlly annoying
If using condenser mic, get phantom power supply. Should help.
Podcastage is the syba stereo compatible with the ps3?
Thank you so much for this. I used the 5.1 optical audio interface for some time and I must say it really gave some significant annoying background noise. I have switched to the Behringer audio interface.
PLEASE, I wanna know how does the Optical Shop 5.1 sounds when supplied with 48V Neewer Phantom power!!!!!
you know a good channel when you know the video will be awesome just from the title :)
+Benjamin Ewald You are being too kind my friend! Thanks for watching. =)
+Podcastage if you haven't already, you might consider adding this mic to the poll :) www.amazon.com/MXL-Mics-MXL-TEMPO-KR-Condenser-Microphone/dp/B004OCD7EQ/ref=pd_sim_sbs_267_2?ie=UTF8&dpID=31VvCgnXbtL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR116%2C160_&refRID=0QHC4DC4NGJX9RJBBG7W
Benjamin Ewald Added to the poll.
I bought the Syba cause he recommended it but it honestly has a horrible background noise when using the mic. You can hear it here 5:45, but I kind of ignored it since he said it was the best option. DON'T BUY IT. You will hear that ringing noise throughout all your recordings.
Did you not read the giant annotation on the video saying he doesn't recommend using any USB sound cards anymore?
Christina Wu but today you need usb audio interface because now the standard audio adapters are not designed to pull out the best audio in the world...
uhm the part 5:45 where there is a noise is when he boosted the mic volume by 12 d.b. aite?
just a quick note, the voltage seen on the mic is called mic bias and it is what drives the microphone and in some cases the circuit controlling the buttons (apple headset), pretty much the higher the voltage the louder the signal when compared to the background noise... with certain limitations of course
source, I'm a Audio engineer
The Syba sounded the best and clearest. IMO
Go to 5:44 and turn the volume up... hear that high pitched squeel?
hyprz
I rest my case
I mean I guess you might not hear it if you don't boost volume levels too high?
Buy a quality sound card, not generics. Get a Sound Blaster.
Hmmm. Interesting. I'm don't trust any of them anymore after retesting all of them recently.
5:37 - Gino 7.1, hear all the ringtones on everyone down your street! 😂
ikr XD
You're growing so fast! I remember I was your 80th sub :)
+Horsman4James I know. I can't believe the amount of growth I've had! It's so amazing! And I wouldn't have it without awesome people like you supporting me in the very beginning. So...THANK YOU SO MUCH!
can you test the logitech 7.1 usb adapter (from the g430 headset) can be bought speratley in amazon or in their support section in their website
can you give a link?
Any recommendations for a usb soundcard with stereo mic input?
Are you obsessed getting the best sound out of your microphone? You must be my twin brother! Got a bunch of soundcards laying around here too!
I would recommend any Xonar U product!
bjcrosserke I don't know how you can be crazy about audio and use a sound card...
Can you monitoring yor audio while recording only using usb soundcard ?
Does this Syba Stereo work inverted as well, if I have usb microphone and I want to the plug aux to the computer??
Thank you man, this helped quite a lot.
Just had to buy a new USB-audio-adapter because I somehow always manage to break the jack (or the jack entrance) to the PC I'm using making huge problems for me when it comes to loads of things while recording videos. Good video, have a great day!
Please make new sundcard test video
I have the MXL 990 and I have the same problem at 4:56 - 5:05 I was thinking it was the onboard soundcard from my asus z170-a. I get the same problem when I plug the 1/4" plug into the frontal ports of the case. I was thinking it was just interference from the case so I thought of getting an external soundcard. Not sure which is best..
Wow! thats an a great video!
Can u help me...?
(non of the good audio cards you chose can be sent to my country (israel
I want to buy the bm800 but i dont know what sound card should i buy with it so it will work.
Thank you so much!
+AdventureCraftGamers I would recommend investing in an actual microphone interface.
+Podcastage
Wow! thank for the fast anaswer!
What do you mean by that?
can you be more specific please?
Thank you so much!
amzn.to/1RwgVXJ
+Podcastage
Amazon does not send to israel...
and i dont have that amount of money to spend on a sound card xD
Any cheap options you know about...?
Thanks again, sorry for spamming like hell :O
+Gitam
BTW, This is my second channel...
im the same guy :D
awesome!
I think you have might some minor lighting flicker/interference going on from webcam perhaps (at 6:40), there's usually a setting to filter it
+kaliLeto Ahh! That's the light coming in through the blinds. Good catch.
+Podcastage
oh so that's what it is
"WARNING: I no longer recommend using a USB soundcard to connect a microphone to your computer. ... The only method of connecting a microphone to your computer that I recommend is with a USB AUDIO INTERFACE"
I ordered a 3.5 mm lavalier mic, with an adapter for pc. In another video you said not to use a 3.5 lavalier mic. ruclips.net/video/sQkYuljMkCo/видео.html
Should I just plug the mic into the motherboard soundcard? Thanks!
Just ordered the Syba thanks to this video, hopefully it works well!
+Grimmie XII I acutally just tried a new one and it provided 4.5v so it should work.
@@Podcastage will it make it be high quality whether when I'm playing sonic 3 or S3&K and Sonic Heroes on Emulator on pc?
so what's the best sound card ?
Sybe stereo
*syba
The Syba has a horrid high pitched buzzing tone at 5:44 . Just turn the volume up... How the hell does he recommend it?
I think that's your speaker/earbuds/headset
no its not, I hear it too
Thanks a lot, i was searching a while for a usb sound card because my input for the microphone on my laptop is broken and wasnt sure which is the best. After i find your vid i was happy to see one whos testing those. Now im gonna buy safely the syba.
Thanks!
Good purchase. =)
you earned a sub this is the most helpful video. I have had questions about this forever and you answered them all in one video
Buying nw 700/bm700/800/8000. Which mic should I choose and which use Soundcard should I use. My country not selling SYBA and Sabrent. I don't have phantom or mixer.
Can you use the mic as a line in?
Hey podcastage in this video at 5:50 exactly you went from using a microphone to using something else, and obviously i could hear you and see you perfectly. i would like to ask what is the exact gear you were using once moved to 5:50
What camera, What microphone, what adapters everything...
Congratulations man, your videos are very good. I hope you grow up! Subscribed :D
+Khoury Thank you so much!
OMG you already respond thanks! ahmm That means I do not really need the usb?
I did not say that. It depends on what your input settings are. Did you select the mic as the input?
Yes and does not detect it ie I speak through the microphone and the bars do not move, I was investigating and I read that the ps400 gives an analog output and that you have to put a sound card to turn it into digital or something like that
PS: I really love your videos!
Hey Podcastage! I'm stuck with USB Sound Cards :( I can only bought;
HDE 7.1
Plugable Stereo
ATR2USB
Gino 7.1
('cause Amazon doesn't send Syba to my country)
and i'm gonna use this sound card with InnoGear 48V PhantomPower.
Yeah, I used to have one, but it broke :(
Hello. Could you review the U-Green soundcard? Thank you very much. 😊
Maybe one day I'll do a review on the podcastage2 channel. I have tested it though. It's actually better than most other soundcards I used.
Podcastage thank you dude. 😄
@Podcastage
Better than the Sabrent one? Yesterday I ordered the Sabrent sound card and I'm going to test it with the Sennheiser GSP 300. Do you think the sound card is enough for that headset?
are you talking about the one without buttons or the one with "equalizer" buttons? Thank you
is there an updated version of this? Im getting audio ticking/buzzing/whine when moving mouse from my onboard mobo audio when connected to the mixer. I tried friends hyper x USB sound card and that fixed the issue. Wondering what current usb sound card you recommend or whats the best way to fix this audio interference? Thanks man!
Look at my video with which you can solve all those problems, although it is in Spanish you can follow all the steps and it will work. or you can activate the subtitles on youtube and you give it to translate. ruclips.net/video/cFA4giEHclU/видео.html
I havea neewer 1500 mic with the neewer phantom power supply. How would I input the audio into a macbookpro?
I only suggest connecting it with USB Audio Interface.
Podcastage alright thanks, could you possibly link me to or review an effective budget interface?
What kind of adapter did you use while making the review of the SF-930
+F i L i X I used the sabrent stereo in all my videos.
That's awesome. I appreciate your recommendation and I will look into the Behringer UCA222! Thanks again.
Amazing video dude! Keep up the good work.
Also, since it is a TRRS (2 in 1), the mic input is mono only (doesn't matter to me though)
I would like to know how well the others fare and which one is a good idea
Thanks. Two questions you might be able to help out with:
1) How much worse are these 'small' soundcards to bigger, more expensive ones e.g.
Thanks!
i'm facing latency issue using this kind (min 2:03) of USB sound card.
You did no noise reduction right? Also, is the BM-800 original or is it the chineese one? Is XLR even viable if i don't have an audio interface?
no noise reduction or any post processing done.
Lov Your Video's and they really helped me and my friends :D
Hopefully good information about the bm-800:

syba stereo usb soundcard
Or you can get any cheap usb soundcard and a phantom power supply.
If you're using windows, have you tried turning off Automatic Gain Control. That may help. And the Antlion is the same as the SYBA actually.
I don't use a windows machine so I am not sure what would be causing it or even where to start there.
I have the same Sabrent USB Sound Adapter and my is only providing 3 volts. Do you have any idea?
Shoot. I'm not sure what is causing that. Are you measuring the voltage with a multimeter?
I also just checked their website and they don't provide any specifications about the adapter, so it could be that they have altered the internal components and it still meets all their internal company requirements. But this is pure speculation.
I even got another one because I thought it may be a defective unit
Should I buy the Ugreen 2in1 usb audio adapter?
i think for the puprose of just recording simple podcast, the sabrent is really good, but not very useful in other area. if with only 2% gain you get that much signal then it's clearly too hot. a signal mismatch. for other purposes it would be wise to add attenuation (-10 or -20dB reduction, by means of another device such as an attenuator cable) so you don't stuff the headroom. particularly useful if you are recording higher level of source such (line level) for example if you're taking input from a mixer/cd player.
+ditya.alamsyah Very true and very good idea. That would be very interesting to test out. Do not think many people have the technical know how to set this up. Also, for ~$30 an audio interface can be purchased which is what I recommend now.
+ditya.alamsyah I would LOVE to see how you would do this though. WOuld be really cool to learn.
I was able to order the sabrent in germany. will test it with the zalman zm mic 1. Thank you!
+Björn Fischer Please let me know how it works out for you! =)
How do you recommend the Syba Stereo card when it has a horrid high pitched buzzing tone at 5:44
99% of people who comment want a usb soundcard that doesn't have require any external components. That's why.
The Z even came with a stereo microfon)
So now I am looking for a cheap usb soundcard which can deal with a stereo microfon.
Any suggestions?
Any comment about what device notebook,s desktops etc. should have a stereo microfon?
Thanks, man! I got the HDE 7.1 as it was in my setup range ($100), you have helped me to pick out my audio/recording setup!
You don't need to read this but, here's the list for my setup
Bm - 800
Dragonpad medium pop filter
neewer suspension arm
HDE 7.1
Each G4000
Really dude, appreciate the help.
+EpicSlambox There you go man! That sounds like a good setup.
Thanks!
Follow the link:
www.amazon.ca/review/R2JMSYVBFNVVKK/ref=pe_1086170_134824320_cm_rv_eml_rv0_rv
Ted Nicholl That is awesome. Well done my friend!
What is the Voltage that a normal Asus ROG z270e motherboard would give such a mic?(it has some nice shielding for the audio out I hope it does too for the audio in)
Would that in-built soundcard be enough for VOIP usage using a BM800?(considering it runs for 15$ in Gearbest and its probably way better than my old webcam MEMS 3.5mm jack mic)
That MB comes with some nice realtime noise cancellation software that i'd rather not use but will if i have to...
+Cypher1571 I recommend getting an actual USB Interface like the Behringer UM2, and the NW700.
Podcastage Should I just get a blue snowball? Or should I get the NW-700 and the Phantom Power?
Snowball may be easier for you.
I like the NW700 and the UM2, but for ease I'd recommend the Blue Snowball...better company recognition as well and most likely better support from warranty / customer service.
thanks. just ordered the syba btw. great review.
If I Buy The Excelvan BM-700, Which One Is The Best, Please Reply As Soon As Possible!
SYBA USB SOUNDCARD
Do these sound cards make microphone quality better or the volume higher when recording your voice?
Compared to plugging in directly and which usb soundcard, yes. I recommend SYBA STEREO USB SOUNDCARD.
+Podcastage what about the syba USB 2.0 soundcard?
The only one I know of that works is the SYBA STEREO USB SOUNDCARD.
any good option with Line in? most of the units on amazon have just mic-in.
Hey. Did you find any good options?
Buy either Zhilai audio H1 or Muse X5 mini usb soundcard. They use pcm2904 instead of CM108 which has carbage freguency response on audio output typically 20-15khz. PCM2904 goes up to 22khz. All those syba series and another 2$ soundcards uses CM108 chip.
Unfortunately those are strictly headphone DACs, and the main purpose of this review/test is to determine if they work for microphones.
ZHILAI H3 HiFi Mini DAC
Thanks.
+8lindfury USB Audio Interface is what I recommend now.
+Podcastage Thanks for the response. Sorry I'm not 100% sure what you're talking about?
Is that a brand or...
I'm a bit of a rookie.
Thanks again.
Been watching a bunch of your videos and I subbed by the way.
It's a type of device. Search USB Audio Interface.
why did you add "dont buy" to the syba stereo usb? did they change that one as well?
+GEGE77R6 I was told that the audio chip in that adapter was changed as well.
+Podcastage Is it good?
recommend this: ruclips.net/video/MGlCPzGxaOk/видео.html
Podcastage Woah that was a fast reply. Thanks!
I will be buying a Syba USB adaptor somewhat soon. Wanted to get your opinion on what brand I should go for a BM/NW 800?
+Chyakka Oh and as I realized you recorded the whole thing with a 700, will this actually power a bm 800?
+Chyakka Yes it should. ruclips.net/video/-Q30b1h9G70/видео.html
How was the audio output level on these USB sound cards? I have a cheap one that I can barely get any sound out of with various amplified speakers. Looking for something to use with Raspberry Pi zero, will not be using HDMI.
Thanks for the tips! I will probably get the Syba stereo.
Great videos - subscribed! If I were to have a BM 8000 condenser mic, would just a Sound Card be fine? More specifically the SYBA you've listed?
The SYBA should work by it self without phantom power.
Would it be okay to use this rather than trying to repair the port?
sorry for bugging you (I'm so bad with these tech things) does the soundcard make the static sound lower? or does it just make your voice clearer?
ruclips.net/video/-eGMehDpKJA/видео.html
Check you automatic gain control on your comptuers settings if you're using windows.
+Podcastage Thanks man I have windows PC! I'll check it tomorrow as it's night for me RN. thanks ALOT for the help man I appreciate it!
What's the best 1 now as of the date? I need a quick answer i just got a Neewer NW-800 and a
Neewer Phantom Power Supply. I need best one for my mic as i do live streaming.
Your quick answer is directly in the description of the video as well as the annotation on the video.
They change too often to justify reviewing because by the time they're reviewed, they are already changed.
nice video..
which sound card you recommend for recording with low budget ? thanks in advance
Syba Stereo USB Soundcard.
hello, im curently looking for usb soundcard cuz mine started to buzz in my right earphone. im using boya by m1 for streaming. so which option is the best for audio quality and decent mic quality. thanks for help
