I have the DJI MIC I bought last year at B&H here in NYC for $329, and this is only $99 and does the exact same thing, what a steal. I bought the DJI MIC, then went to Africa for 3 months missions and humanitarian work and it was great. The Ulanzi doesn't have a magnet or noise reduction like the Newer, Fulaim for the same price, but I'll definitely recommend this to friends. The sound quality is great.
I watched tons of such videos on RUclips and all showed great products. When the DJI did not transfer anything to the receiver, I thought ok, bad luck, can happen, perhaps it fell on the ground while being shipped or so. However, since the exact same experienced happend with my second purchase, the Neewer mic, I began asking myself, do these things actually work?
I bought mine for $79.99 on Amazon and have been testing it out and it is worth at least $200!! I will be doing my own videos about this little gem soon!
I'm living in China and there is even some product that aren't worldwide yet. This is the fastest growing company. I definitely bought a lot of my equipment, rig cage etc. from that company. Amazing communication too.
I have heard some video on youtube, the sound of this mic is very very good. It is even better than DJI Mic and better if not the same as Rode mic pro in terms of sound quality
As a small channel content creator, I've picked up a few wireless systems to review. (Reviews to come.) But, for $99, the Ulanzi is extremely impressive and very useable for the price. Even when the sale for the Ulanzi goes away, the $129 price tag is still competitive compared to other wireless systems. Not sure I can justify picking up the Ulanzi given all the very good systems I already own. Ulanzi will definitely sell a LOT of the AM18 systems, for sure. Thanks for sharing your expeirence.
I have the DJI kit and I'm happy with it - but just bought this Ulanzi kit for the sake of buying it (backup never harms)... for $65, not $100, although delivered from China. Also, I don't really know why would one care for wireless range with SELF-RECORDING TRANSMITTERS, unless you use them for live streaming. If you are just recording, a dropout or two (or ten) in case there is a backup, is NOT an issue. Indeed that adds some work in post but you never lose your audio anyway.
Thank you for this review! I was impressed that there was not even one cut in sound while you were turning your body off the camera (receiver). DJI Mic has issues with that. Actually, my DJI Mic receiver died. The replacement will cost more than this Ulanzi mic. I have a question. How do you connect this mic to your iPhone 15? USB-C to USB-C cable?
The mic records in 16bit though, 16bit is more than enough for final output, but it does reduce flexibility vs the 24bit in most budget systems and the new gold standard of 32bit in flagship ones. Incredible value though, just make sure you get your levels right!
Great video! i just purchased an used your code so it came out to only 90 bucks and free shipping that's insane! thought i was gonna be chilling out 350$ at best buy for something similar but Ulanzi is a great brand. the Mics and receivers are also beauty's
Funny at 3:20 I thought you were going just to turn on the blower motor in you car and point the mic at it. :-) Thanks for the video Ulanzi is killing it lately with their budget offerings.
Hi Vic. Firstly, thank you taking the time and effort to make this video of your review of the Ulanzi AM 18. It's very informative and interesting at the same time. A quick question if I may, do you know if the TX (microphone transmitters) will work directly with the Insta360 Ace Pro and/or the X4 without using the RX (receiver)? I know that the DJI 2 will work with one of them. If you don't know then no problems. Cheers
Just got my new AM18. Thanks for the discount, Vic! I have a question. What charger are you using to charge the case? I don’t want to kill my new mics. Thanks.
I was disappointed with the audio quality of this mic system. So much so, I didn't even bother to do any audio processing on it like I do with all my projects. - Came back to say I only use the onboard recording from the transmitter, and use the wireless audio for reference only. The onboard recording from the transmitter, naturally defeats the purpose of wireless, but my primary criteria is audio quality.
Their falcam clips are great - pretty decent company as well, I bought a L-bracket from them that didn't fit my lens because I hadn't read the compatible list, they still replaced it with no bother
Vic, I bought this mic for 68.99 on a black friday deal. What a steal!!! But... It took me a while to figure out the best way to make this work when using it with my computer. It seems the best way is to connect it through the ZV1 and use that mic input to the computer via the microHDMI out. anyway, that I figured out. Not so simple with an Android phone. From what I can tell, the phone sees it as a chargeable device so the phone charges the receiver when using the USB C to USB C cord. I have done numerous searches and can't find a solution. I have changed the mic source to external in the camera app and then no sound is recorded. Other than purchasing a 3.5mm to usb c adapter (so the USB can't charge the device), do you know of anyway to fix this situation?
Daft question, wish it could work wifi with iPhone 15 wirelessly ? I have ordered it and may send DJI Mic 2 back, still boxed. . Lat question can I get stereo into iPhone with these two mikes ?
unfortunately, the transmitter does not have a blocking system. When it is used with an external microphone and the transmitter is kept in the pocket, the physical buttons are accidentally pressed and the recording is interrupted.

I have this mic but I can find a functioning lav mic for the transmitter. Any suggestion on the lav mic that works on this (also not that big in size & affordable)?
Just got these, audio is horrible, adjusted settings in cam on the ulanzi, my audio had chirping noises and sounds like im talking infront of a fan, anyone have a good fix?
i think you have the same issue? i no longer have the issue and they work good now, lower ulanzi mic to around 5i think and camera audio to about middle @@melquiads1
I think the price has been dropped on the DJI Mic now, so its a bit more of a difficult decision what to go for. I only do 3 or 4 interviews using mics a year - so maybe this will work out cost effective. I imagine the battery will only last a couple of years anyway and youd have to throw it away, so not as costly
Question, how securely does the wind muff attach? - I've tried a few wireless mics and the wind muff tends to fall off it knocked, is that a problem with this one?
@@VicBarry Have you found an external lav that works, though? I have tried several - with TRRS and TRS connectors - and none are recognized by the transmitter. I've seen other comments about this on Reddit as well. This is a huge problem with this little miracle unit.
This is going on my wishlist but I'd like to see a comparison between it, the Hollyland Lark M1 and the Fulaim X5. Or maybe I should buy all three, test them and send the losers back?
Today I discovered that Ulanzi equipped their transmitters with the weakest memories in the world. If you record internally and want to copy files, you'll experience speeds of 300 kbps and a maximum of 1-2 Mbps. So, you need a lot of patience. Besides this, sometimes when the audio file splits, it remains silent for 1-2 seconds. A total disappointment with this Ulanzi product.
Thank you for the warning, I canceled my Ulanzi mic order and reason i gave for cancel was Vic Barry said it was trash, you saved me $100. I just ordered the DJI from Amazon even if it costs more, I would rather have something that works well.

What’s your favorite budget mic’s in the $100 price range? There are so many to choose from nowadays, it’s worse than picking out wallpaper...
WOW, you walked too far away and it's still working like a boss without a tiny break whatsoever, and sounds so good too 👍
just ordered this system earlier today - your review has made me feel better about my "impulse" buy. That range! 😮
I have the DJI wireless mic, which I love, but it sounds like Ulanzi did a great job for a low price. Well done, Vic.

Hey Mark, yeah. It is indeed.
The audio is amazing for $100. Mine should be delivered any day now.
Hey Patrick, awesome stuff. All this was direct with zero post production done on the audio. Really impressed

Does the audio from each microphone end up as isolated tracks? Or as a single stereo track?
I'm just a little youtuber, but I can confirm this mic is excellent, better than the DJI and Rode mics.
Great review!
Is this mic more for talking or can i use it for my gopro, to record for example onboard enginesound of a MX Bike?
