That saxophone player is incredible. The way he switched between a perfect impression of every player was insane.
I like that they brought up _Talk_ _Dirty_ at the end. It's obvious that it's a saxophone playing, but in the music video they show *_trumpets_*.
That part is taken from Hermetico by Balkan Beat Box.
Which is ripped from the cloding lick of low rider by war
It is originally from Hermetico, played on acoustic guitar by the legendary Erez Netz, he improvised it in a two hour long session in LA I believe.
Ok?
I should admit, I am quite a sax addict
woah baker what you doing here
bakerXderek lol baker what you doing here? I play sax
*sex
Getting blown for over a hundred years I see
@@gabrielepaglia721 My sax teacher’s e-mail name was saxygirl. And she really was pure sex on legs (Besides the fact that she could play anything from classic orchestral stuff to straight a head/modern jazz ...)
That bass player is hilarious
bass players are bound to be hilarious hehe
Whoah!!!!!!!!!
life is too short to not have some fun man
“The saxophone has been getting blown for nearly 150 years.”
Well then...
*saxophone player
Nicholas Cauton: that’s 2 years less then my grandpa
That's... a long time.
Reported for saxual behavior 😂😂
If the sax can do it so can I
Everyone needs a hype man like this bass player in their lives
you guys missed "Moanin' " by charles mingus for barri sax
I play bari and I was dissapointed
abxdefgurmomgaypotatooley wow same
did I hear LEO PELLEGRINO?
Yup
Art Blakey? Or a different song?
It's fair to say that CDZA are just stonkingly talented. This is pretty much the saxiest set of saxtastic saxaphone sections I've ever saxily listened to!
Also, as Homer Simpson said..."Saxamaphone."
anyone else getting weird frame-shifts and sudden cuts in the video?
Yes
yeah, but i think it has nothing to do with the video file itself. it's just youtube messing up...
good ol youtube
Michael (the bass guy in the back) looks like he's having so much fun, I love it, he's the best part of these videos in my opinion
4:48
8:18-9:53

He was in Stay Human with Jon Batiste for a while! 💚
Collective Cadenza seems to love Take Five.
who doesn't
one of the most famous jazz song ever. why not?
I'd say it's Dave Brubeck's Watermelon Man, but Dave, even for how good he was, couldn't touch Takin' Off.
I'd just like to point out that the "Last Friday Night" solo is actually Lenny Pickett despite Kenny G being in the video. This was a source of some controversy at the time because a few people saw the video and mistakenly thought that Kenny was actually good.
Yes. Came here to comment this. The recording is clearly Lenny.
Lenny Pickett is an amazing player. His altissimo mastery is pretty unmatched and Tower of Power is awesome.
Hahaha! I was just about to write this and saw your comment! So unmistakably Lenny Pickett. "It's L.P! It's Lenny Pickett!"
Eagle6 lmao
Well. He might not be as good as Lenny Pickett, but even when I don't like his stile at all you can't say G can't play.
Awesome! Super Kudos to Ben Flocks for reciting so many freaking golden sax tracks. What an instrument. Love it.
That Baker Street to Just the Two of Us was mad smooth
love the bassist's ending. full of love.
Fela Kuti (and consequently Afrobeat) is from Nigeria, not Ghana!
Other than that, awesome video, as always!
I watched this for my music homework instead of actually playing my saxophone. Thanks for that
Fela Kuti being primarily associated with Ghana?
That's beef.
You had one job, (new) fact man!
The saxophone is my second instrument after the drums, and I love playing the instrument in my high school marching band.
I am a saxophone player and I worked at a musical instrument museum for a few years and I was so impressed with the saxello we had on hand. It just had the best sound. Of course, I was blessed because our collection had about 1000 saxophones including Adolphe Sax originals, too many stenciled C mels from the 20s and 30s, Bill Clinton's LA Sax American flag that he played, Rudy Wiedoeft's saxophone, the sax that premiered the Glazunov concerto in the USA, and so many more saxes. It was a little sax heaven.
I must say, I'm a bit disappointed that there was no Run Away/Epic Sax Guy at 2010.
this is good
Wow! Well done Ben Flocks and band - and all in one take by the look of it! Bravo! 🙏🏻🙌🏻🎶
If I could like this video a thousand times, I would!! My new favorite video on RUclips and...anywhere!!
Ben, I love this!
props on having a c melody sax! great video.
My school has one too. Ive been trying to help find someome to repair it, but no one in our area can fix the level of beating its taken
I dig these history videos. They have increased my music knowledge (and library).
YES I picked up the sax in 5th grade and I'm now graduating high school and words can't describe how awesome this vid was!!!
"The saxophone has been getting blown for over 150 years." Lost it right there haha
Wow! I didn't know my grandfather was a saxophone!
Shining Armor LOL
I miss you guys. I'd love to see as much content as you're willing to put out. Go crazy.
Love it. A talented bunch and you look like you’re having so much fun
Well done! I love this history of the jazz saxophone - congratululations.
4:58 I know Stan Getz left 'The Girl from Ipanema' very popular around the world. But the composer is Tom Jobim. He and Getz were good friends and made many performances together.
7:48 was what everyone was really waiting for
still watching these in 2018 and they make me smile every time :)
ayyyy this was cool! my grandpa, at 90, bless him, still plays the sax and the clarinet!
Wow. There's so much I haven't listened to! Wish you had brought in DMB and Leroy Moore.
I always come back to this video. My favourite moment has to be 2:03
Most definitely.
Wow! Congrats to the whole band and especially to your fantastic saxophonist. Amazing video!
I was waiting for that Baker Street and Careless Whisper. You can't make a sax video without them.
This should be titled as 'History of Jazz Saxophone'!
I'm pretty sure we didn't jump from Bizet to jazz and never hear of classical saxophone again 😥
Josh Dean classical sax doesn't even have a prominent presence in classical music
?? Classical saxophone is at the forefront of classical music today. With new works being performed by huge orchestras like the La philharmonic etc. Players like Tim McAllister, Arno Bornkamp, Claude Delangle are changing the game.
There are some serial and "modern" pieces for sax (Xenakis, Babbit, Denisov) but even during the XXth century the saxophone didn't become a "classical instrument".
Thing is, there was a lobby against the sax at first. Causing it to be unsafe to write for it in a orchestra. When jazz appears later on, it found it's home there and wad then categorized as a pop instrument for the general public. Just like the violin in the 16th century: good for dances but not for savant music.
There's a good video by "David Bruce Composer" that sums it all up!
Classical saxophone is pathetic, honestly. Everyone wants to get that really shitty shallow saxophone sound and it doesn’t even sound like good music. No reason for a saxophone soloist in classical music, it is literally the sound of a dying cat. No one wants to hear that horrendous tone, it’s a pathetic excuse of the saxophone
1:59 is it just me, or did the video glitch right there? haha!
Anyway.... Man, I love CDZA. All of these videos are so fantastic.
Love The Itstrumentals series! Keep it going. please!
Perfect as always! Thanks!
I was really anticipating he sax solo from Pink Floyd's Us &Them.
nice, but you forgot the Caribbean styles, like merengue (juan luis guerra), and the classical saxophone repertoire, anyway the sax is my instrument. i feel very bless, thank you for your videos...
And even ska....
They forgot ALL!!!except the shity jazz!
Good to hear that Michael Brecker tune in there. Did that for one of my recitals at university. It gets overlooked a bit but it's a blinder.
You guys are amazing!
Mad... He can play giant steps.. Just mad.
Wait, no Pink Floyd sax part? Damn...
kkkkkk
They also forgot alan parsons...
which song??
@@gustavsk6096 money, before the guitar solo
@@gustavsk6096 most of dark side of the moon
I have been waiting too long for a sax episode. I'm just...extremely happy right now (:
soooo much talent..great stuff!!!
You should make a playlist of all the songs featured and stick it in the description of each video, I've been looking up my favorites but a playlist would be much easier :)
Very well done. Just wish you would have found a way to slip in a little "Flyin' Home" by Illinois Jacquet in your 40's section. And a credit to Plas Johnson for the Pink Panther theme would have been nice.
I LOVE CDZA SO MUCH! all those episodes makes me want to pick up a new instrument and learn it.
Very cool video.
Wonderfull playing!
Thanks for this video!
👍👍✌️✌️
If you guys ever want to do one of these for the cello, I would love you forever. If I could be the cello player in the video I would die from excitement!!!! haha
Do...do you mean the upright bass? Because they have a video for the History of the Bass.
Are you kidding me
Woosh
NeptuneMS385 cello, despite also having four strings and a similar shape, occupies a higher frequency spectrum and more melodic composing structure. It’s also tuned differently.
Bizet was not the "first" composer to write for Saxophone, and it's very first pieces were not written in the 1870s. This may have been the Saxophones first introduction into the symphonic orchestra, but not the first thing that was written for the instrument. Jean Baptiste Singelee was writing for saxophone in the 1850s, and Jules Demersseman wrote his Fantaisie on an Original Theme for Saxophone and Piano in 1860. Also, scooping notes was definitely not how the Saxophone won the favor of Bizet and Sousa, or even Ravel and Rachmaninoff for that matter. That was because of virtuosic players like Sigurd Rasher, Marcel Mule, Cecil Lesson. This honestly cannot be, and should not be called a complete history of saxophone
*triggered*
Exactly!!
Also, the fact that they call Sidney Bechet the first great sax virtuoso despite playing Weidoeft just before makes no sense to me. It also seems unfortunate that they aren't aware of any of the work of Ali Ben Soualle or Eduard Lefebre who were, arguably, the first virtuosi of the instrument in the late 1800s...
A-Ma-Zing band and unbelievable sax player!!!!! Many compliments!!!!!!
Love the C melody saxophone
Afro Beat came out of Nigeria... but I'm surprised they even highlighted it soooo.... Half a thumbs up?
It's a real shame that you guys couldn't fit in some Madness or something similar. Still a great video though!
This is possible the best video I have seen on the internet... Loved the Kenny G hair
Incredible job guys!
8:31 Kenny was in the Katy video, but it was Pickett (7:40) doing the playing.
Props to the sax player for all those styles! A little more work transcribing some Sexy Sax Man 7:50 then you'll have them all down pat :)
I thought that was misinformed. Thank you for this. I am glad someone else noticed this.
this video saxually assaulted me
noice
I thoroughly enjoyed this video.THANK YOU!
Thanks for doing these videos guys. I love showing them to my band students. Please make more. Thanks again.
3:00 every time I see that tenor move i literally jump
What happened with live Fact Man :( i loved that guy hahaha
Amazing!!
This was so cool I cried!
History of the trumpet next!!! Please
DO THE HISTORY OF THE TRUMPET!!
I just picked up Giant Steps, can't wait to listen through!!
The saxophone is my favorite musical instrument
I seriously think it's a crime that didn't even bother exploring the album Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd or even a little disco. Also, HOW CAN YOU FORGET ABOUT EPIC SAX GUY :(
I know right!
Because epic sax guy is a disgrace and should be burned and forgotten
Thats like including Jack the ripper in the history of surgery. Two saxophone assaulters. These guys did an entertaining job any pretty good playing too.
epic
This is probably one of the best youtube channels I've ever stumbled upon. Great job :)
Great job. I really enjoyed this! Good playing by all. Thank you.
I wish this had more on the world of classical saxophone, which people are woefully ignorant of.
Its not that people are ignorant, its just that theres almost no composer who put the sax in front when talking about classical.
@@ludoms100 there are a lot of genres with sax as protagonist, not only the shit jazz.!
I was waiting for that Careless Whisper haha! I'm glad that they got that in there.
I’m convinced that it is singlehandedly the most overplayed saxophone riff ever. Not that it’s a complaint.
You guys are great! I'm waiting for the next vid :)
I loved the video. Only one beef.. No mention of Dana Colley in the sounds of the alternative rock band Morphine. They may have not been big, but their sound was definitely distinguishable. +1
history of the trumpet please :))))))))))))))))))))))))
So sax is good for EVERYTHING?
Yes.
Not apartments
Yes
not neighbours
yay a new vid ! merci !
The KenniG Wig!!! Hahaha you and the band are Krushing it!!! This is amazing!!
I sure wish I'd have been getting blown for nearly 150 years
“The saxophone has been blown for nearly a 150 years”😂😂
i love this session.
Good coverage of sax-o-history! =D As a saxophonist myself,I love this!
The wait between the beginning and Careless Whisper was almost unbearable
no epic sax guy??
Woah that last scream at the end freaked the fuck out of me. Thought there was a cat outside meowing then it kept getting louder and louder and i'm thinking wtf is going on !! Lol Amazing tunes though, good work lads.
you guys are too good!!!!!
Morphine?
Leiria65 not significant enough

No George Thorogood?
Wow impressed at Giant Steps exact solo!!!
