- There are many obscure and really weird official Mario games out there. Games like Mario’s fundamentals , Hotel Mario, the virtual boy games, or that one time they abused the mario brand to teach kids typing. All of those games are super weird, and, to be honest most of them are among the worst games nintendo ever released. But all those obscure Mario games also kind of raise a question. Which of these really bad Mario Games is actually the worst one?
So I sat down and started to investigate this question, I played dozens over dozens of hours of really weird Mario games, all in the hopes to find out which game featuring Mario is the worst one ever released. And I pretty quickly came to a realization. There is way too much going on in these games to cover all of them in a single video. So instead of answering the eternal question which Mario game is the absolute worst one, in a single video, we are going to do this in a small mini series, where we take a closer look at some of nintendo’s weirdest moments, starting today, with the fascinating game, Mario’s Time Machine.

the egg minigame probably is a catch minigame where you have to take the eggs to the hole, if you get hit by a rocket it probably destroys all eggs currently holding in marios arms. If you clicked enough eggs into the hole yoshi's comes and you win.
Without animations though, I have to play it a little bit to understand if this is the game.
Yah I was thinking that. since if you look it seems he collects the egg RIGHT before clicking on the nest, so one 'hit him' then yoshi appeared.. so gotta collect said falling eggs for the nest.

Yes. All you have to do is start with sufficiently low expectations. This is far easier said then done, but once you have done so, the rest should be fairly simple.

For the minigame, it seems that mario has to take the eggs in what he carries, and the bullets stop him so he can't take eggs, I think that if you have enough eggs, Yoshi appears and you can exit the minigame, just suppositions of course.
Hearing the name “Ludwig van Beethoven” uttered by someone who actually speaks German is one of the most satisfying sounds a music nerd can hear. 😍

@@_CNT_ At the moment it isn't even a pre alpha, I can barely show sprites on screen and scroll the background indefinitely, but this is my first project on the nes, so im learning while I make it

When I'd port some game like this, I'd consider using the SNES because of its higher calculation power, bigger storage, better sound chip and vast possibilities like HDMA, F7-Mode or Color Windows.
But as we now know, less powerful hardware is totally capable of running better games!
@@PhilippHorwat Yeah, i thought of using snes, you could make the game look almost exactly like the original. But with the nes it's a bit more simple(no pun intended), and it's more fun trying to cram all of the game with so little speed and rom.
As for the sound chip, i'm making this with only emulators in mind, so maybe i'll use the VRC6 or other audio chips
And by the way, as the game only updates every music beat instead of every frame(on most things), you have a lot more time calculate enemy AIs and other math stuff

You can't blame the lack of instructions since this was released during a time when reading the instruction booklet was expected and taken for granted. As for the lack of challenge, that's the whole point of educational games.

Well, you got me. I grew up playing the SNES version and knew about the DOS version, but I had never heard of the NES version!
I think we need Ceave Gaming's Time machine because of how much more accurate his info is.
One small thing you didn't mention: a title like "Mario's Time Machine" being used on something like a history-teaching game (and not even a good one) is a HUGE bait-and-switch. I was one of the kids who saw that in the store and went "Mario's TIME MACHINE??? That sounds awesome!" only to be horribly let down when I got home and played it. This, to me, gives it at least half a horrible hammer more, if not a whole hammer. Bad games are everywhere, but bad games disguised as GOOD games, are even worse.

I think the missing piece of games like Mario's Time Machine is that with the physical game, you also had access to a players' guide (a quick Google search for Mario's Time Machine manual finds the pdf version). Older games printed tutorials to maximize the game space. Why waste precious kilobytes with how to complete the time surfing game when you can just read the manual before you play! For gamer today this is almost completely foreign, but game manuals were a huge source of information in early games such as this. That doesn't really help the overall game, but saying the game has "no controls of explanations" is outright wrong, since buying the game would've bought you the manual too.

(About the Dino mini game) You probably already tried but catching eggs, with the basket in Mario's hands, then klick the hole. Maybe you need a specific number of eggs.
I had the SNES version as a kid. Ceave's initial reactions mirrored mine every time I tried to play it. I never figured out what to do, and the only screens I ever saw were the artifact room, time machine, and surfing game.
Hey Ceave, if you want to play a time travel game travelling through different points in history and using the knowledge you pick up along the way, I would recommend Where In Time Is Carmen Sandiego, more recently known as Carmen Sandiego's Great Chase Through Time. I played that game to absolute death and back when I was a kid. seriously, I must have completed at least a dozen playthroughs of it, that was my jam back in the day. All your Good Guides(helpers) names were puns, and there was always a mystery or puzzle to solve based on the time period you were in(which were still relatively easy and could pretty much all be brute-forced through, or you could ask your Good Guide for hints). And even better, good old Charles Martinet, AKA the voice of Mario, voiced Shakespeare and Beethoven in it! :D NO need to play it for a video or anything if you don't want to, especially since this is mainly a Mario channel, but just thought I'd mention it if you're interested :3

I liked Mario's Time Machine for the SNES. It was like a detective game. I think it would've been a great improvement if it all took place in the Mario universe and had you just helping fellow Mushroom Kingdom residents retrieve stolen goods or something, but I accept Super Mario Odyssey's Metro Kingdom, so I can accept this, too.

Yea he found that the nest was supposed to be clickable but it wouldn’t let him because he didn’t have any eggs.
I think you can actually see him accidentally get an egg right before he clicks on it at the end.

I think in the dino minigame you have to collect as many eggs as you can and then when you got enough, you click on the hole. If you get hit by the rocket you will lose all of your eggs and you have to start again. That's what I think.
I was given a copy of Mario's Time Machine for pc when I was a little kid. I did not ever actually finish it.

To rate something good, use fuzzies (1 is worst, 5 is best)
To rate something bad, use hammers (1 is best, 5 is worst)
From this, we can objectively conclude that fuzzies are bad, because a fuzzy is just 1 Fuzzy, and hammer bros are the absolute worst, because they have an infinite supply of hammers (way more than 5 Hammers).

You all realize that the piano isn’t the only instrument Beethoven can play, right? To claim that he could only see Beethoven as anything other than a piano player as a joke, is as true as telling people he watched Harry Potter but only knows The Borrowers as a film Tom Felton acted in.
Even as a joke, he had less excuse to fail Piano than to fail his birth year.

I loved Mario's game gallery as a kid! It was so fun playing checkers with my brother and trying to turn my koopa's into bowsers to gobble up my brothers yoshi's :) good times!
Also I'm almost 100% certain Mario cheated at go fish, he would let you think you're winning at first, then near the end he would say in a condescending manner "oh brother, Ima got 3 cards! That's another book for Mario!" again and again until he won >:/
