@@CrissLeto People made that argument for Leovold as well. Didn't prevent them from banning a commander that goes infinite with so many things from the command zone. That's why Leovold is banned, but Narset, Parter of Veils isn't
@@soontm1032 Thing is. You can't flash hulk from the command zone, and you won't get the combo in your opening hand regularly. Urza is both a combo enabler and outlet that you have access to at all times.
It's kinda annoying when someone asks for yawgmoth and then you see other people saying "make the decklist a joke/waste of time with just jank and flavour." Like stop. It's so much better when he makes an actual edh list instead of a gag list.

I don't go to tournaments yelling at people for their broken Turn 1 win decks or uninteractive combos, even though I find them boring. I watched the professor's video on this anti-fun no-one do anything commander deck for Urza and enjoyed where he was coming from with it. It's cool to see how busted things can be. But it's not fun, for me. Enough MTG players are Johnny/Vorthos players that Wizards has names for them. People like lore. People like seeing interesting combos that aren't necessarily broken. People like playing with big, named creatures with over the top abilities. And people like winning. And people like dozens of different formats. If you're annoyed that people have fun playing a game a different way then you do, you need to reprioritize your life. It's not like my one comment will force the professor to do a vorthos deck instead. I'm not his Boss. He'll do what he wants. But I'm welcome to share my opinion on what I want to see. Don't wanna see it yourself? Fine. Say you'd prefer a competitive build. Don't diss me for enjoying more casual play.
I’ve been watching some of your videos for a bit now but this video is the one that made me subscribe. I’ve been just as excited about Urza as you when I started Magic and the announcement that he is getting a card is mind boggling to me. This deck tech really helped me smooth out my own deck list for Urza.
It brings a smile to my face everytime you tell us about your early experience with the game prof, hits really close to home. Also please do one decktech video like this for Yawgmoth. The father of machines deserves as much love as his eternal nemesis.

@@camjones5488 alright. Did some research www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/comments/11xtn9/chance_of_pulling_mythic_rare_warning_math_inside/ and there is 1/8 for a mythic and 15 i think mythics in mh1. So the odds in a 3 pack draft is 1/40 or 0.025. So yeah not great. Check my math, I'm on mobile
Great deck tech professor! Gonna try running lab maniac in the deck. With the dramatic reversal, isochron scepter combo, p.engine and urza’s second and third ability you can dump out the entire deck, play lab maniac and a cantrip spell and get the win. Urza is so busted.
When building my Urza deck, I tried to tone him down a bit so he wouldn't be as broken. As such, I made it based around proliferate! A lot of the free artifacts are just X and have counters. Likewise, things like flux channeler and inexorable tide proliferate off of each artifact you play. It gets really crazy when you have a Jace out; I highly recommend trying it out!
I came back to this video after opening a foil Urza from a Modern Horizons pack. I feel I kinda need to build an Urza deck now, and this video's really got me thinking of how to build him right
Also a wonderfull combo you can try out is "Mycosynth Lattice" and "Karn, the Great Creator". With Mycosynth Lattice all permanents are artifacts and with Karn active abilities of artifacts your opponent controls can't activate. That means all permanents that your oppnent controls which have active abilities are now pretty much useless.
People are saying prof should tech Yawgmoth next, but it would be more flavorful to tech Mishra(artificer prodigy), Urza's first enemy, then Yawgmoth. And no, this does not have anything to do with me having a Mishra deck.
I haven't been keen on not letting others play in many years. For the past year or so I've been running my Rashmi, Eternities Craft deck which has a lot of triggers in it but still let's each person play, until I time stretch, temporal mastery and come swinging with 4,5...6 Ulamog, Infinite Gyres. After seeing this deck tech, the interactions and synergies of it, I may have to switch it up a bit. This looks hilariously fun and complex to keep up with. Love it! Thanks Prof! Also, I think there is room for a helm of the host in this deck. Such an amazing card! Great really in any deck with creatures with amazing ETB effects but just as good if it's on a creature who has a triggered ability. With it on my Rashmi for instance. Say I have her and 4 copies of her out. I cast 1 spell and I look at the top 5 cards of my library. Any lands go to hand and as long as the mana cost of the revealed card is lower than the first one I cast, I get to cast that one for free. Since it's the first spell you cast on each turn, pairing her with things like Vedalken Orrery, leyline of Anticipation to cast on others turns and cards like seedborn muse and awakening to untap everything on their turns, it makes for some crazy turns and a board flood quickly.
Since you talked about the brother's war with such passion, i wanted to ask you to do a lore analysis and explanation for all of us that cant' find (or are to lazy to read) the books. It's such an interesting story and i bet that it is much better when told by your voice.
Sounds like fun deck to play against :D Also I don't think running 0 artifacts is good idea. Yeah it sounds nice to play moxes, but they are not actual acceleration since 99% of time you will need mana acceleration to cast / recast your commander who is up there in the top tier kill-on-sight commanders like Narset, Muldrotha or Zur. I don't think I will be building Urza, but if I were I would instead play with normal mana rocks and artifact tokens as the way to abuse his second ability. Put bunch of them into play then use his ability hopefully getting more tokens and mana with each activation.
i dont know how many others have considered it but i actually really like using cards like Spell swindle for counterspells because it could drop a sizeable amount of other mana rocks on the battlefield you dont have to sacrifice with urza, but still could if something goes wrong and urza is hit with removal somehow

I love Urza!! I started playing just before the Urza block and that is one of my favorite blocks and stories. When I saw Urza spoiled I wanted him just to have him. Then I realized I wanted to build a commander deck with him. So glad you made this giving me some ideas.

Glad to see prof getting in the cEDH combos, UPS is a solid deck. Plus, this deck’s framework is extremely solid, and this decklist can be easily upgraded (if you’ve got the funds) as far as tuning this to a cEDH level. PS: RC won’t ban urza. If they do, I’ll be pissed, because why ban urza when there is thrasios, who’s arguably the best infinite outlet in the game, or hulk, who has the potential to win before the game even starts.
I have a cEDH urza deck. It usually wins around turn 3-5. I strictly only use it on people that are using mean or top tier decks though. I use phelddagrif or bear force one any other time though

Not a fan of commander still (kind of a Legacy guy here) but as someone who enjoys cancerous decks like Infect, Mill and Pox, I gotta say yer a man after my heart, Professor. Those are some wicked ideas and go very well with Urza who was, despite being a an oldwalker, just a human. He woulda lost against most others in direct combat so he relied on his unbeatable detective mind. Truly the Batman of the Magic universe ~

Null Rod is another stax card to consider as well. Since the source of mana production from artifacts is Urza himself, Null Rod doesn't affect you. Cursed Totem, Linvala, Keeper of Silence, and cards like them however, are dangerous for us, and should be dealt with immediately.
This looks fantastic. I'm so glad I found arena but, at the same time sad I don't live anywhere near a place I can play on paper to build this kind of deck.
I think Trail of evidence is a nice inclusion. It creates an artifact every time you cast an instant or sorcery like a counterspell or draw spell. Id also recommend tormods crypt, Its a mox and graveyard hate
I also recommend Jhoira's familiar, as it reduces the cost of all historic spells ( like your commander and artifacts.) 4CMC might be too slow for some people but for casuals it is great.

Amazing tech! Yet I believe we should still play some broken mana rocks to be able to cast urza a turn or 2 earlier Just a sol ring, mana crypt, and mana vault would probably be enough and little enough to not disrupt the deck after the first casting

I think Trail of evidence is a nice inclusion. It creates an artifact every time you cast an instant or sorcery like a counterspell or draw spell. Id also recommend tormods crypt, Its a mox and graveyard hate
I also recommend Jhoira's familiar, as it reduces the cost of all historic spells ( like your commander and artifacts.) 4CMC might be too slow for some people but for casuals it is great.
Prof, I would like to issue a challenge...How would you build Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis? Go Dredge? Token army? Both?

Just a sol ring, mana crypt, and mana vault would probably be enough and little enough to not disrupt the deck after the first casting

@Adam Miller Saheeli is what I am currently running and it's amazing at producing large amount of Mana in a few turns as well.
Do a xantcha, sleeper agent deck tech! I'm curious to see how other people build her as opposed to the direction I went! 😄
