    A bent four doesn't really offer ko threats in the actual game to White, since Black can choose to launch the ko when all is done. The subtlety is that if there are other dead groups on the board which could be revived, then Black needs to add moves there to remove any ko threat. In Japanese rules he doesn't need to because bent four is dead by rule. In other rulesets the endgame becomes heavy on Black.
    Besides that question - best pro game commentary on the web!

      But building the bent for shape is all ko threats and that what he meant I am sure.

    21:15 Watching BadukTV's broadcast, I had the impression the pro commentator showed a variation trying to demonstrate that Black N3 was actually unnecessary, but I'm not at all sure.

      Yep, sjs could have allowed the cut to not get sealed on the right side, it didn't feel like it went into the flow of the commentary but maybe next time I will include such judgements to show how xie ke could take a lead

      @@telegraphgo Was it a sealing off variation? I thought it was a variation in which the pro commentator was trying to show that White could cut Black, but then White would end up with only sealed in with only one eye.

    thanks for taking the time to explain that "flying knives" joseki in a really good way .... btw is it also the only AI joseki that has an old-school ninja-movie style name?

    What do you think of F9 at move 124? It seems like a natural way to use the big influence on the top and middle right.
    Of course G9 would be met by the cut, which looks favorable for white. If white gets to push on the 9th line he solidifies a huge territory while black is two moves from closing off the bottom

    • @telegraphgo
      @telegraphgo  Год назад +1

      I think if I were black I would just extend into the center, and white's area is probably not big enough to justify what he loses in attacking potential. It's definitely not a very bad idea, but as white I think I prefer to try to start trading from e7 side

    Hi Telegraph, I really appreciate the fact that you do try to pronounce Chinese names, but if I could give a helpful tip, if you know the Chinese word for thank you (Xie xie), Xie Ke’s name can be pronounced with the same sounds

    I thought a bent 4 was just dead by special rule in Japanese scoring.
    In Chinese scoring, it’s dead because players don’t lose anything by making extra moves in their own territory after the whole board is settled- which means you can just fix all your ko threats once the game reaches the point where there aren’t any moves that gain anything and then start the ko.

      It's dead, it's just a source of ko threads.

    what about a fierce move on 132 ? G9 look like quite the bite, black cannot really let h9 die right away and the sacrifice method isnt that cool here, still letting the shoulders open
