They were [symbolically] walking *away* from Abbey Road / EMI Studios... and he didn't wear shoes [in that original album-cover photo], for two reasons... (1) His sense of humor; (2) it was too hot to wear shoes; though, he could have worn sandals (as he did while waiting for photo(s) to be taken.
@@skaboosh hot in Liverpool is 82 degrees maybe 85. Hot in the USA could be 90 to 100 degrees. That is where the pavement gets hot. If by taking his shoes off and walking barefoot meant something to PID supporters the Beatles had a good laugh about it I am sure.
