As an Australian it's interesting football to watch. Both the left and right have reasons to be unimpressed with this set of midterms. Trump's candidates have largely failed, but DeSantis offers hope for the red team. The blue team can probably consider this not to be a win but a successful retreat. They may still hold the senate even though they've almost certainly lost the house. As a Christian, it's always good to remind people that politics is downstream from religion. The key to creating better political parties on both sides is to win more people to Christ. And I don't mean just get them to say the prayer. I mean to be there, love them and walk with them through a Christian journey. Being a Christian is about becoming like Christ. Learn to think like him, act like him and love like him. That's our job and if we do that right the politics will take care of itself.
Great points/observations. "... not a win but a successful retreat." I think that's spot on. The challenge is that the next two years (in the US) will be an all-out war within both parties for nominees to run for chief executive in 2024. It is going to be a mess. And in the midst of it, my concern is that the Protestant Church in the US is largely focused on the wrong thing. The temptation to be focused upon and committed to politics, instead of prayer, proclamation, and public witness, is huge. I'm not sure that we (American Protestant Christians) actually trust that God has power in influence in the leadership of the nation. That said, you're spot on!
“Politics matter because policies matter because people matter”. That’s a quote by Allie Beth Stuckey and it did inspire me to be active in my community. Doesn’t that seem right? We don’t want to be obsessed with it, of course. We should put Jesus first. But if Christians stay out of politics, people will get hurt, won’t they? Definitely the most vulnerable….the unborn. Yes, we should witness and pray, but I am not sure I agree with you that we should stay out of politics. Maybe I misunderstood what you said. Maybe you were just saying don’t sit around and talk about it. Regardless, thank you for your wise words today and for all you do daily.
I can't remember the source, but I think the statement "A true Christian is too liberal to be a Red Republican and too conservative to be a Blue Democrat," is spot on.
Excellent summation - the most important election one can make is to follow the Lord Jesus with all our heart, all our soul, and all our being, and to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. If we don't agree w them or like them, this is a checkpoint for us - to see if the light is in us, to recognize they are in the image of God and need the gospel message of salvation. As Miles says, the most important thing we can do now is to pray in the midst of the chaos, it is not as if it was going to subside or go away just because a few people change places in a dark time of leadership. Evil is evil and it will continue to do as it does until it is stopped and can see for itself it is futile to continue. That said, it is unlikely these will fall on the sword for the good of the country or its people. These are too in love with themselves and their power, and like hungry coyotes who howl or javelinas in the desert of Arizona, the ones in the wings are also much the same. Chaos begets chaos. Salvation will not come from Washington, DC nor in a man of politics, for such men are like lawyers and car salesmen, they do not rank high on the moral standard ranking, so for they replace the law rather than follow it. While we can always hope for our children to face and have a better tomorrow, the more we live, the closer we are to Jesus coming to rule and reign. The disciples of the 1st century made the mistake many of us do, thinking one should rule and reign on earth, but until Jesus comes, let's face it, man is desperately wicked and corrupt, and without God, it's dog eat dog. Those who remember God in our time, don't seem to remember Him well or have the courage to really stand up and lead. As for Mr. Orange, pray for Him that He truly becomes saved, not just to use what seems good and right as window dressing for prideful accomplishments. For in tribulation times, even the anti-Christ will look good and have the charisma to win many people. Pastor Miles is right, pray, the Lord God in His wrath, and judgment of America, have mercy, a lot of mercy - and if it is time (no one really knows the day or hour) to take us home, because then for a while, all hell will break loose such as never seen in the annuls of mankind, the lawless and rebellious of which we were (but by grace there go we) will reap what they have sewn in continuing to ignore God and His Word for their good.
I agree with you 💯. Great thoughts!
Good commentary
