In the illegal drug trade, bad actors modify fentanyl to generate similar molecules - known as fentanyl analogs - designed to mimic its effects while evading detection. Chemists and computer scientists at Johns Hopkins APL are teaming up to use machine-learning algorithms to spot fentanyl analogs.
