These slabs are only a portion of a huge white oak that I milled last year using my Granberg chainsaw mill equipped with a Stihl 090 powerhead. I had to get them out of the woods and off the trailer, so not all the wood was stacked properly. I'm just now getting around to dealing with them. With most things I do.....I'm on my own. This wood is no different. I don't know if lighter is the right word, but I think they are not as heavy as they were a year ago when I first milled them....but still feel like slabs of concrete, just a lighter variety. I'm moving them from down in the woods over to my new to me barn on the land that I bought (Ranch house renovation on my other channel) I'll end up stacking these alongside the other slabs on the concrete pad beside the tobacco drying unit. The key to stacking slabs is keeping them flat and making sure they have good air flow to allow for drying. My method is a row of cinder blocks, then 4X4's across them long ways, then short 4X4's perpendicular, then a non treated spacer. The stack goes on that, with stickers between for air flow. The stack is strapped together to prevent unwanted movement and for safety then topped with roofing tin.

the white oak, aint no joke. You the man moving it by yourself. I sawed red oak logs all day Saturday. They kicked my butt.
You are so clever and talented I hope you are happy doing all this. This is a granny watching .
You gotta carry a few big jugs of kitty litter for those moments. Works like a charm
I greatly admire and appreciate your skills, tenacity and go get em. Great video, thanks
Definitely enjoyed and definitely want more on either channel. Dude, you're insane... it's so great!
05:52 mark when you spit out the window when getting back in da truck says it all!!! A guy, his truck, a trailer, a ton of wood, in the woods & spit out da window!!! Who hasn't been there and done that!! Hope all is well, and Jersey Mike out!!!
im not afraid of work... i watched the entire video of hard work... and never broke a sweat
I love work... I can watch it for hours.
@@RedmarKerkhof ha!
Always looking forward to your videos pal!👍
Enjoyed your grunts and groans as you work. Definitely reality TV. LOL
Murphy's law struck again! I got that sinking feeling when i heard the first tire slip. But as usual there is coming up with plan b on the fly! At least you didnt slide the fender into the tree. Good job
Nice slabs. You certainly don’t shy away from work. Any job has the potential of expanding if the circumstances are right. Thanks for the video
Thanks for sharing! Isn't it great to have friends and family close by and willing to help when you are in need?
It is, there's a benefit to moving off somewhere and recreating yourself, but it would be tricky to not be able to walk through the woods to get someone right when you need them.
Thank you for sharing the journey. The wood is beautiful ...and I am sure it will make amazing furniture .... If those pieces could talk ...the stories they would tell ..
Be well and be safe
Ugh... rough day... can't say never been there... Nice lumber stash ! ! totally jealous !
Maybe you could make some sort of metal framework (maybe something you can bolt and unbolt for easy moving) with a movable I beam at the top to attach your winch to. What I mean by that is, where the winch is attached to, can be moved forward and backwards, and also side to side. That way you can put straps underneath your slabs, then use the winch to lift them, and the moving I beam (I have no idea what it would actually be called), could be moved to get the slabs (or logs even) into a more favourable position for you to get on/off your trailer etc. I've no idea if such a thing already exists, but it's not good for your back to be lifting such heavy objects on a regular basis.
That is a lot of very beautiful wood. I wish i could dry my own wood for my projects. Greetings
A lot of hard work, sorry you ended up having to winch your truck out. 😯👏👏👏
Sorry you got stuck but glad you got it out finally!
Awesome video. Thanks for sharing. You are greatly admired.
It's kind of nice to see it all goes to shit for someone else as well.
Ha, indeed it is a comfort to know you're not alone.
I look forward to seeing your videos. Keep them coming. 👍
That's a good workout for sure !
Please make more of the Craftsman videos. I like them more than the house videos
i just slabbed an oak log this week and had to move them all myself. those things were insanely heavy!
there's that power king again
cool tractor
A suspenders AND belt kind'a guy-insightful.
I feel like you and Primitive Technology would be best mates.
My husband is a UPS driver and he'd have been very unhappy with you about the way you jumped off your trailer lol. ;) I'd love to have a board like that for a bar or a countertop or something. Beautiful! Need to get some woodchips on your path though I think. hehe.
Who needs a gym when one can just push around large slabs of white oak!
Love the videos man!
As allways great vodeo.
I wanted to be there helping you get the truck unstuck.
Wow.... Beautiful wood and future of a bad back. Do you ever stop? I must have missed it, does walnut take the same time to dry as the oak? Do you take them some where for the electric kiln.
Wooden dowels to roll large slabs with works great. Next time try setting the edge of the slab on a wooden dowel and lift the other end, you can even use leverage by ratchet strapping a 2x4 or pipe to the slab. Tilt the slab so its weight is on the dowel and roll it. You'd be surprised how easily you can move extremely heavy stuff.
This dude is lumberjacked! A regular Paul Gunsyun!
Love it!
How long will it take for that white oak to dry? I’ve got a huge red oak that the top broke off of last year, about 18’ up and I’m going to have it sawn, just wondering how long till I can use it, thanks
Watching a man hauling wood?Good enough.👍
We've ALL had projects turn upside-down when we've so carefully planned them. I enjoy watching the furniture being made videos.....not sure about the lumber gathering side of it. Kinda like, if you've seen one, you've seen 'em all. But, hey, I'm not a craftsman/furniture maker, so I'd listen to the advice/input of those who are.
I think the beauty of RUclips is you know what a video is before you watch it. You can watch what you want and skip the rest. People watch for different reasons, just for fun, for tips, or inspiration. This is more of the "lifestyle" side of it all where you are doing the in between work to support the actual furniture making side of things.
Those slabs are nice!
Looked like a good workout btw.
/cheers
Damn it! That's too much work for one man.
Moar videos, please! I love your content.
Just idle curiosity, you are going to be moving a lot of wood on that trailer. Why wouldn't you add an a frame to rig from to load slabs?
Were these the slabs you milled from a fallen oak over a year ago? Beautiful wood!!
Why sticker on the trailer? For load spring/support? Is this the solution to transporting large stacks of board/twobys (I find they're extremely slippery and don't stay in place in the middle, since the outer ones try to "circle")
+Pasi Savolainen I never know if im going to have time to unload the trailer. Mold will grow quick if dead stacked. The wood is still on the trailer by the way. Been a month.
That's a mountain of beautiful wood you have lying there, including in your barn. Am I correct in saying it was all free too? What a score, well done...
Slappin the slabs! LOL 👍😁
Jack + jack stands under tail end of the trailer = disconnect w/o having to unload first
What beautiful wood! Are these trees you milled from your own property? Very cool!
A gas capstan winch would help load the slabs and get you unstuck. Love your vids, man!
+Stumbly Rhino I have one. Thats what i used to unstick my truck.
You weren't kidding. It's heavy stuff.
Joseph Rogers Dude it is a cut up tree
👍🏼 Good Job ❤ your videos GBU, just a suggestion maybe you should put on some work gloves just to avoid cuts or ticks. Keep up the good work.
good job well done!!! (though I would have loved to see how you did get out!!)
At least they are lighter now 😁
Hey men, regards from argentina "end of the world" hehehe
Nice channel. new suscriptor.
How heavy do you think each slab was?
have you considered building a big band saw mill that a lot of youtubers are using these days?
nexxt time just let some air out of those tires :D
nice
I wonder if some lumber tongs would help you. Could get an electric winch or a manual one. Love the content....sub'ed
Pays a monthly fee to go to the gym every day after work...NOT.
Hola amigo pura vida saludos desde Costa Rica por aca tengo también un taller de muebles me gustaría saber como se llama una máquina que tienes para hacer los huecos de las espigas con las q haces los muebles . Pura vida y gracias..
you could have used a thick piece of dowel to roll the slabs ?
I hope you replant what you harvest
Did you quit making tables?
Why do you need to sticker if you're just transporting?
You never know how long something is going to sit on the trailer, it's easy to put them in as you go.
Do you ever get snakes hiding in your wood?
+botchedonce yes
That was very unsafe traveling with no weight on the tongue.
+lightdark00 It was a treacherous 100 yards at 20 mph.
Hercules hercules hercules!
Ever think of hiring some help, while your back is still in good shape ?
Where are your friends?!!!!! I worry about you.
This type of work doesn't make friends.
@@thehomesteadcraftsman8975 a pack of cold beer makes all the difference. 😉
I THINK YA STILL NEED A FORD.
Air down your tires.
All you needed to do was call me and I would have come on over to help ya
I was looking for white Oak and the only thing they sell and bring so far is 1000mm by 140mm by 45mm $96 dollar 😂🤷♂️ I guess in China white Oak isnt as beautiful and nice in size as yours.
