And so we travel this misty road of memories, and we let the words, the melody and “The King” transport us “back.” We’re there, even if just for a moment, but the vision of what was is clear and it is ours... once more!
Love this song and when Nat King Cole sings it it only adds to its beauty I heard someone say that if you had to compare his voice to something it would velvet, never get tired of listening to his music.
Almost every singer and musician has done her or his version of this most-beautiful Carmichael tune, and I have listened carefully to as many as I could dig up. Without the slightest doubt this one...The King and Gordon Jenkin's string section... is the most sublime of all. The honey with which Mr Cole's inimitable voice renders this difficult piece, riding the heavenly swells of Jenkins' strings is almost too sweet to bear.
Perfect melody, perfect lyrics, perfect phrasing and tone, perfect arrangement. What more need be said? Granted that people have different tastes, especially in music. Still, how can any listener with taste or common sense not think this is one of very best recordings in the history of popular music?
Someone I loved passed away many years ago. "He wandered down the lane, and faraway, leaving me a song that will not die" Your tribute to the King with beautiful visuals, soared through stardust and then landed gently on my heart! `
WOW, a pairing of Nat King Cole's velvet voice, enchanting lyrics, and Hoagy Carmichael's haunting melody with Hubble star images. Too beautiful! Bravo!!
Whenever I am tired, stressed, depressed, all I have to do is listen to the beautifully soothing voice of the great Nat King Cole singing these exquisite words and it is like a magic potion washing over me and filling me with peace. The world would have been a sorrier place without these two great talents... may their music live forever.
My father, 85 this year, also mentioned this was his favorite popular song (besides hymns). He too, served and lived through WWII. This song is a beautiful combination of words and melody that would not have the same power if only words or only melody.
Nat takes this lovely standard and turns it into pure gold. No other singer has ever sang Stardust with such meaning and beauty..... The heartbreak and longing of lost love.
I think our dear Nat King Cole would have been proud of the images you created for his musical work,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,absolutly beautiful,,,,,,,,,thank you.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh........ETERNALLY, STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL but also heart-breaking at the same time. Sitting here HATING that I'm stuck working on my pc in the basement, while a 92 year old life-long friend of my late Mom's is fading quickly across town in a hospice. Thinking of Aunt Delphine who's (VERY hopefully) going to meet her beloved husband John soon and sending her daughters (close friends of mine) OVERFLOWING hugs, happiness, light & ENDLESS LOVE. Ahhh, the blessings and heart break of LIFE
What a touching combination!... A wonderful, haunting melody created by Hoagy Carmichael, introduced by a Heavenly orchestration, and interpreted by the gentle and tender voice of Nat King Cole... It really stirs one's soul...mariza
This arrangement and the performance of Nat King Cole are unmatched today. And I doubt they ever will be. When I watch the images you have put together with this beautiful song it make me think of one great lady. Bette Davis. This was her favorite song. In life she searched for what the song is about and never found it. Everyone was after what they could take from her. Especially her selfish mother. Now I hope she is resting in peace and enjoying her music. And slow dancing with someone special.
This is real singing and what incredible control and phrasing this man had, each word said with a purpose to the end and to the feel of the song. An elegance in singing somehow lost through the years, how great that we have it recorded for generations to come. Thank you for posting this.
One of the many songs my mother used sing around the house when I was a young girl. "smoke gets in your eyes," deep purple, pennys from heaven, red sails in the sunset, dancing cheek to cheek and of course stardust. Thank you, thank you for this posting.
I just stumbled upon this in my usual fashion wandering around youtube. This is a gem. We are so very small. Not unimportant, just so small. Time stretches infinitely and the echoes of souls that came before us reverberate throughout eternity. A lovely way to slow down, take a breath and to remember what is really important in the long run. Thank you.
This is one of the truly finest romantic tunes from the fifties. The accompanying video even includes some cosmic imagery to enhance its euphoric enchantment. It stirs the soul to be enlivened by the recollection of such beautiful music.
This is not just a beautiful song but also has a most beautiful man to sing it, used to listen to it in the 1970's, 80's, 90's etc sure you get the point. lol great songs and voice
My father had the albums of people like Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra. Johnny Mathis and I love them so much. He has been gone for 10 years and all I have to do to feel close is play these beautiful songs that I grew up with.
Truly beautiful! Our grand Creator left us a beautiful "sky" to feast our eyes on, and Hoagy Carmichael left us beautiful music to "feast" our ears with! Very much appreciated! Thank you.
Lyrics so well written, the sad story of lost love so eloquently sung by one of the all time greats. Wow, it takes me back. I, too, played this on my trumpet as a very young teen. But you can't sing when playing a horn! So I took up guitar. Stardust was always a favorite. Thank you for uploading this great song, and the videos are incredible. Those views are no accident, any more than this beautiful song is an accident.
THE best version--Nat's wistful voice matches the magical arrangement of this enchanting, mysterious song--one is transported--lovely photo montage--thank you!!
Incredible that kookie Hoagy wrote one of THE romantic songs ever written and how grateful I am to him. And.... Nat King Cole's is to me THE Definitive version .... The arrangement and his rendering... No one has or can top it. He takes one into outer space indeed.
thanks for posting i memorized this song when i was 7 years old ... 1947 it is the only song i ever knew how to sing from beginning to end Cole's version is my favorite
i'm in my early 30's so missed the Nat days completely but thanks to my parents playing his music, I am mesmerised by his songs. Someone wrote this song? (was it Nat) it's so poetic! amazing! wow!
my dad loved all Nat's songs, he passed away recently and we are playing three songs.... unforgetable, an affair to remember and this one, stardust, the last one,a great hoagy number
I am in envy of those with such talent, be it as a performer or writer, Carmichaels & Parish's writing and Nat's phrasing ...just wonderful. I have no such talent, but then few have. Thanks for posting
Best song of the 20th century, in my opinion. If a more beautiful song has been written, I've yet to hear it. Job well done on the video too. A gorgeous tribute. Thanks.
I think O fmy parents, who met at a neighborhood dance after World War II. They are both gone now, but this song...and your beautiful video...bring them back to me, and their love for one another. Thank you for sharing it...sublime.
What a beautiful melody by Mr. Hoagy Charmichael and sung by one of the greatest vocal artists of all time, Mr. Nat King Cole. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful interpretation with us rnchef.
This gorgeous version of Stardust was used to great effect in the opening sequence of the wonderful comedy My Favorite Year - one of my all-time favorite movies. The musical and lyric language are sheer poetry - a nostalgic valentine. Thanks for posting.
What a classic song and sung beautifully. I once heard several decades ago that Hoagy Carmichael wrote this in 20 minutes but have not confirmed it. Absolutely romantic.
Leave us not forget Nelson Riddle -- arranger extraordinaire! NKC was a great voice, so wonderfully complimented by Riddle's melancholy yet tasteful strings. One of the greatest recordings, of one of tghe greatest songs, of any genre. May it never be forgotten!
I came here from 'Sleepless in Seattle'... well, classics lead to classics, I can say(: and when talking about classics, it's still gorgeous if you see/listen to it 3 years or 30 years later(:
Of all the many, MANY recordings of this beloved standard, Nat King Cole's easily ranks as one of the most beautiful, 54 years after it was recorded. No less than Hoagy Carmichael, the song's composer, cited it as his personal favorite version. Nat's vocal and Gordon Jenkins' arrangement combine to create musical magic.
His voice cuts into your brain like a velvet knife performing the most intricate surgery, removing all that is bad & lacing the wound with passion! Never to be equalled!!!
Mom passed away on 10/27, 8 years ago. This was her favorite song, and I think this is the absolute best version. I hope she has been able to make contact with Mrs. Cole & Charmichael.
@rnrchef this was one of my fathers fav songs and i cant listen to it without thinking about him, even though he has been gone for over 30 years.a great song a great artist, thank you for doimg this
fyi "Nat King Cole IS an Alabama soul, that's why you couldn't touch him with a ten-foot pole" (From "Ten Foot Pole" written by Eddie Hinton and Donnie Fritts)
I absolutely love this song, but it was way before my time; I was born in 1953. I also read that it is Bette Midler's favorite and that she has a custom made screen on her fireplace with the opening music on it! Real classy!
My Favorite Year is on of my top 10 FAV movies too. I love the use of Stardust as the title song and Peter O'Toole, who should have won the Oscar for his performance.
You did a bang up job on this video! I love the Hubbell telescope images, so appropriate for a song named 'Stardust'. Also, the pics of Hoagy were so outstanding. I really enjoy this video. Thank you!! Liz
Velvet tone for sure.
Perhaps the most beautiful song ever made in history ! ! !
YES! ...and the most beautiful arrangement and performance.

A man with an angelic voice, amost unique diction that separates him from everyone, pure romantic lyrics, clean and sweet.
It can't be possible that a human being sounds like this! Cole had such a celestial voice! OMG....
Only Heavenly possible; and Karen Carpenter?
Just the best, any way you hear it! There will never be another like Nat.
There will never be another Nat King Cole...nobody can imitate his voice...beautiful
My father, 85 this year, also mentioned this was his favorite popular song (besides hymns). He too, served and lived through WWII. This song is a beautiful combination of words and melody that would not have the same power if only words or only melody.
Thank God for Nat King Cole, with his wonderful voice that treats songs like "Stardust" the way they deserve to be treated.
