    Tully did something he didn't have to do and it was something a lot of heels wouldn't have done because they were afraid of hurting their character. After he says Yes when the ref asks him if he wants to Quit, Magnum stays over him with the piece of wood and Tully still cowers. It really puts Magnum's win over. Tully didn't have to do it but he knew it was good for the story. Great shit.

    This is why Tully Blanchard is still the greatest heel. Never said "I Quit"
    If Magnum didn't have the accident, The feud they would've had over the NWA world title would've been epic

    I remember Tully saying he never said I Quit when he hosted a segment on The Best Of Starrcade DVD. It was ranked number two.

    Absolutely on the Mount Rushmore of greatest matches of all time!! I remember watching it with my younger brother and we were both Magnum fans and screaming at the TV during the entire match.

    My first time seeing that match is when I bought the definitive edition of Starrcade DVD in 2008. By far my favorite match on that entire DVD.

    Tully Blanchard is awesome best HEEL IN WRESTLING EVER . One of my favorite wrestlers of all time I thought he was great. When he and Geno Hernandez were a tag team then when he was NWA TV Champion Feuding with Dusty Rhodes, and baby dolls in the mix at that time, and then the national champion in the NWA feuding again with Dusty Rhodes of course the magnum TA I quit match all the tag titles that he and Arn Anderson held NWA world champion tag team and then going clear into the WWF as the brain busters The titles they won there. And so much more I could keep going . yeah, Tully Blanchard is totally awesome thank you Tully for all the great matches. Have a great day.🤘☘️🇺🇸⚡️⚡️

      I agree with you it was a hell of a match. In my opinion probably the best I quit match ever, way better than Flair and Funk a few years later. The use of the wooden chair was brutal.

      @russblack443 Yes, that broken spike from the wooden chair was sick! Tully sold that spot magnificently, too. Their I Quit match is definitely my favorite I Quit match, no doubt.

    I would have never thought I'd miss Tully. He was the perfect heel. Absolutely perfect. I hated him for all the right heel reasons. He was such a talented performer. We need a bunch more like him today. He's not being cocky when he says it's one of the greatest matches. Not for technical reasons, but just listen to the fans during the match. He's right, they screamed full volume the WHOLE time.

    Tully Never said "I Quit"; Tully Never said anything about Ricky Morton on "The 700 Club"; Tully Never told WCW he was coming back to "Reform the 4 Horsemen" in '93. But they plastered his face all over their posters and teased his return on television, long after he told them he wasn't going to appear. That way it looked like He was the one who let down the fans with his No-Show...

    The only thing wrong with Tully and Magnums I QUIT match was that they didn't have more time to continue the match. The length of it is what keeps it from being a great match to me. The "management " didn't want to give them an I QUIT match because it would be so brutal. As intense as Magnum and Tullys heat was, I would have loved to see them go 20- 30 minutes.

    • @davidiihouston6883

      That would be way too long, especially for the era when realism was more key to matches. A real fight like that goes 20 minutes

    Does anyone know how Magnum was going to be pushed before he had his car accident? I heard he was being groomed to be world champion, but what about afterwards?

    • @briannettles669
      @briannettles669 9 месяцев назад +3

      Supposedly, Magnum TA was going to be pushed as the world champion in 1987. The Ronnie Garvin title run was likely going to be Magnum TA's run, but after his accident, the NWA had to pivot to a different wrestler. A more popular and over Magnum TA most likely would have had a longer run than Garvin had with the title. Supposedly, the NWA offered the Ronnie Garvin title run to Barry Windham, but he turned it down because he did not want a brief, transitional champion type of title run.

    LOL what a mark. The US title wasn't really an NWA title, it was a JCP title. JCP was sold to WCW so it became the WCW US title. WCW was sold to WWE so it's now the WWE .US title
