Very nice re-chroming. It'll be interesting to see how they hold up over time, but for now, it definitely looks worth it. I might do the same thing on mine. Thanks for sharing!
i am the type of person that pays close attention to detail and your attention to detail is what makes this such a great RUclips TV Series award winning series i must say !! i am not a jewelry gal at all but love the shiny chrome bits thats my kind of jewelry
I stumbled upon your channel as I am after a specific boat, and they usually have the same Perkins as yours. I really identify with your refurb/restore/re-use approach, so thank you both for the trouble of documenting and sharing your refit exploits... More power to your elbow!
Glad you stumbled upon our channel! We will do our best to share the progress of the engine refurb, even though it is done abroad. We have a small update on the engine coming up. See you there! 😉
I just stumbled onto your channel and enjoy it very much. The energy between the two of you and your determination to do a good job are a joy. thanks for the channel, looking forward to the next installment!
It is fabulous! Definitely worth it. I was too excited when I saw them, afterwards I was eyeing every piece of hardware on Squalo checking what else we could potentially save (as opposed to replace) and re-chrome next! 🙃
Praca, praca i jeszcze raz ciężka praca ale jak to mówią "bez pracy nie ma kołaczy"! Jeszcze trochę i będziemy podziwiać efekty tego wysiłku! Tak trzymać!🤩🥰😍
Great to see you both getting some joy out of your boat. In the beginning, I thought you both looked a bit stressed 😬, but now that things are coming together.... BTW the deck is going to be stunning. Didn't realise you had transom lights; so cool!
I guess you are right, we were a bit more stressed. We were putting so much work and we didn’t see any progress. We would like to say thank you for following our journey here from the very beginning.
Hi Guys. Just found your channel and couldn't help noticing that you are at Fambridge? If so, my girlfriend and I are hoping to have our recently purchased sailboat in the same marina in Q1 23 ready for our own pre-trip refit (although not nearly as extensive as yours). We just have to get it back from Sweden first! Hopefully we can catch up when we arrive.
How wonderful! Congrats on buying a boat and safe passage and hope you bring her back safely ☺️ Yes, we are in Fambridge and you can find us there most weekends (in the shed) Feel free to message us on Instagram so we can exchange contact number :) it would be lovely to meet. Best, Ziggy & Nat
I have been watching all the episodes and I love the channel. You guys are great. I’d be interested in knowing more about the balance between work and boat refit. And also how do you finance the project if you don’t work full time?
Thanks heaps for that lovely comment 😊 We fund the project ourselves, we work during the week and weekends or any spare time we have we spend in the boatyard. Perhaps in one of the videos we could answer that question in more detail :) I guess more of our subscribers might be wondering the same…
It is definitely a topic that shows up on other Sailing Couple channels. My wife and I are contemplating sailing away as well and we always wonder "how do they do it?" and "Can we afford it?".
Tbh, it was also something that made us wonder.. how can someone not have a full time day job and be able to afford such an extensive refit of a yacht, or live cruising full time. It is a very individual thing I suppose, not everyone shares their full story and how they came about owning a boat and living such extraordinary lifestyle. We personally have made many sacrifices along the way. We have most regular day job you can imagine, we aren’t lawyers or doctors with 6 figure salaries 😅. We spend every penny on this project, on Squalo. This is our passion and we are working hard towards fulfilling our dream of cruising full time once we finish the refit. It is not easy. There are times when we feel burnt out, we then remind ourselves why we are doing this and so we carry on 😊 I hope you guys find a way of fulfilling your dreams too. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. We wish you all the best 🥰
Wow you guys are for real. You don’t just have a dream. You actively create your reality. And on that note…. I just bought a 1980 Catalina 27. A step closer to a lifestyle change.
We will be talking about costs in later episode 😉 don’t know if you are UK based, but we had it done by chromerestorationspecialist.co.uk based in Folkestone.
Certainly, we did it in Folkestone @Chrome Restoration Specialist. They do excellent job, however I have no comparison. I have couple more bits to re-chrome, perhaps will try a place closer to us next time and hope for the same result 🤞
Thanks :) there won’t be an option to add anything else to the panel, but we have included every equipment we will be fitting on the boat in the future. I hope we didn’t forget anything…😅
@@sailingsqualo You can't make a seperate panel later if so? :) I know from when I built things that there always was things I forgot to add.. and had to do some "quick fix" that I was not found of and it annoyed me. haha. Will be very interesting to see the deck completed.. it looks sooo good in teak btw! :D
@@FredrikLarssonPhoto well, a separate panel is the only option if we find we forgot to add something. Teak deck is lovely, although can be quite hot underneath your feet when in full Sun. But that’s not so much of an issue really.
Chroming anything is a difficult poisonous project. I'm not surprised there is no price difference. Be careful with the exact choice of stainless. There are hundreds of different alloys. 316 or 316L is typically used. Ask for advise.
Just keep in mind your time is your most valuable asset. The deck work will give you boat a richness look ( not in a monetary way). So classy…
I totally agree :)
Man, thats a nice place to work on the boat. That new chrome is brilliant.

Yes, I agree. First time having something re-chromed so I also wonder how long it will last.
Best,

New chrome work looks nice, triple chroming is worth the expense

@@sailingsqualo if you look through vintage motorcycle magazines you might find other bright work finnishers/restorers as well just a thought
