    ...The Inika were hated? I thought they were among one of the best Toa Builds that had a lot of uniqueness and character. I loved the rubber Masks (even if I had no idea what the kanohi powers were at the time), I loved the Rave Blades, I LOVED the Multi-shot Zamor Launchers.
    unfortunately, their "Retooling" would take away that charm entirely and completely negate the need for Jaller completely.
    ...though there was ONE thing I will miss that starts with next year. 2006 is the LAST year official combiners exist in instruction manuals. even then, the Inika didn't have that luxury....even if Toa Jovan existed elsewhere. I wanna say a Magazine, but my memory is foggy at best

      @@Krautboy02 I don't see how the 2015 Toa are "unfinished" looking at all. They all have different weapons, armor, heights, a lot more time, attention and effort went into their designs then, well the Inika I guess are a good comparison, they are just the same figure over and over again, even the Piraka from the same year had very distinctly shaped masks and spines to help them stand out from one another, I've seen the Inika prototypes compared to they final sets, and they all had something a little different going on, Hahli had flippers, Kongu had wings, Matoro had a snowboard, Jaller had a flame tank on his back, the actual Inika sets we got look unfinished next to those guys who actually had different weapons and gear to set them apart. You wanna talk about unfinished looking, just look at the necks of the Inika, it doesn't look right from any angle other than dead on.

    • @fiendwithoutaface6833

      @Cynical Joker Maybe they aren't for everyone, but I was just glad to see the brighter colors, like red, green, or brown back in G2 after it was almost nothing but darker colors since 2004. The final 2 years of G1 brought back the brighter colors here and there, but the joints on the Glatorian, Agori and Stars were so brittle by that point it wasnt even worth it.

I don't think getting rid of gears was a bad thing and I don't mind that they were clone sets. Most bionicle sets are to be honest. The characters they chose to be part of the team were also some of the best in the story. It was nice to see them getting some love.

    I disagree with your review of their masks, just because their look has a backstory. See, while most masks in the Bionicle universe are built out of kanoka disks and protodermis, the Inika masks are organic. Literally living masks that are a part of the Toa, so they're made to represent that in their look and presumably in their rubbery make-up.

    • @TheTTVChannel
      @TheTTVChannel  9 лет назад +76

      REDACTED02 As I tell everyone, that logic doesn't work. I'm not reviewing the story. The sets were designed before the story. The story was just applied to explain the sets looks and to sell them. And as such, I brought up how people do not like these masks. It's a very common opinion. - Eljay

    • @REDACTED02
      @REDACTED02 9 лет назад +64

      Ok. Fair enough. To be honest, I was under the impression the story and the sets were created side by side, and thus the story had some influence over their look. I admit my fault. But I have to say, the use of the biological mask story to explain them works pretty well for me, and I kinda like their look anyhow.

    The Toa Inika... man I'm going through a massive nostalgia rush just by seeing them. These are the very first Bionicles I got, and the team hosts my favorite Toa: Matoro. The Inika from their designs seem like a massive experiment. I love their body structure (despite how much other characters would use it), I love the multi-Zamor launcher, the masks are decent, and I'm probably going to get flack for this, but I even like the light up swords. My only big issue with the Inika are their faces without the masks. It's a good thing they were never seen again. The faces, not the Inika, that is.

    The Inika and the Mahri were always my favorite but that just might be because 2006 was the year that I got into bionicle. To me this is my original to a team.
    My favorite to a in this team has to be to a Matoro. I have always struggled to say which to a element is my favorite. It is always between ice and earth. In this team I prefer Matoro but in the toa mata over time my favorite has gone back and forth between Onua and Kopaka.

    The masks were supposed to be very different as they were the few kanohi that were completely biological. When the masks were removed, no facial features could be seen as there was just a blinding, green light illuminating from where there head would be. So the sets fit the story of them being very VERY different 'toa'.

      True, but you have to remember what Eljay said in a previous video about sets being made first and then the story is made according to the sets. Which means that if Lego had made the masks like the Toa Metru, then there wouldn't have been any story involving organic masks.

      Also, as for the appearance in general, there is another explanation: Normally, a Matoran will transform into a Toa with an appearance similar to what they believed a Toa looked like upon using the Toa stone, but in this case, they were transformed by the red star, meaning that their transformation worked under different rules. They also had their elements infused with lightning.

    Honestly, I like the Inika and Pirakha build for making MOCs. It's a really easy base to work with, but it's versatile enough that you can do some pretty neat things with it and the articulation makes it feel more professional. I, for one, never liked the gears of early Bionicle as I treated my sets as action figures first and foremost, so the Inika build was actually precisely what I was looking for from the series.

  • @IgnemFeram01
    @IgnemFeram01 6 лет назад +2

    The Inika is the only set that I have ever owned all six of. Hands down, my favorite set. As a kid, I never really played with Hali and Kongu that much because my sister's dog chewed up Hali's head and mask beyond recognition, and Kongu's weapon kept dying no matter how many times I changed the batteries.

  • @Uberdude6666
    @Uberdude6666 7 лет назад +16

    I feel like a lot of people have an issue with bionicle from here on out because after the Inika build there was no longer a requirement for a bionicle set to have a function or play-feature. This is something that many saw as a haulmark for bionicle, and suddenly it was all but completely absent

    • @MapleLeafAce
      @MapleLeafAce 3 года назад +5

      This was my biggest issue with everything post-Hordika. The removal of the gears and movement function was a huge blow to the playability of these sets going forward.
      Plus the complete divergence from Technic also meant almost every piece of each set was basically custom to that set, severely limiting custom builds. Part of the allure of using Technic parts was their modularity, something that was nearly entirely lost after Inika.
      Idk, there was a certain visual identity to Technic Bionicle, and when they changed to the Bionicle System it kind of lost its identity.

But it was like they had it all! ... light up weapons, an upgraded zamor sphere launcher, transparent parts were my favorite alongside the light up weapons, along with a variation like a chain or claws to differ the sets and pieces, and I never thought the swirled double color parts would be so extravagant for me to build with!
    Also remember, that the way the mask where more organic and how now there faces were part of the story based part of the toys, along with the lightening like weapons.... because in the story and novels when they tried taking off their mask they only had blinding glowing faces and could not even see each other’s facial features without a mask, and even had to cope with their mask being living organisms compared to the normal non-living inorganic mask they were used to as matoran,... plus after they discovered had an unknown immunity to a few antidermis virus blast 🦠 ( I don’t how limited this was ), they discovered that firing their elemental powers from their weapons had the addition of being cross-weaved or laced with lightening or light ( or on of the two ), and it also told the story of how the matoran of voya-nui gave them their up graded energized-protodermis launchers to free their friends... this was also implemented into the online game I think called “Igniki Island Assault” , and I loved the animation of enemy matoran turned free back into allies once blasted enough. I thought it was so charmed/cute and full of action!!! .... ( perhaps even more satisfying than Sonic freeing animals from badniks )
    This is definitely one of my favorite of the series...
    the only cons I had with this chapter of Bionicle, is the alligator tears 🐊 I shed for the Toa Nova being tormented with a roller coaster of an unknown fate each chapter, we had waited two years to see these heroes to be finally back in action, only to either read or hear of them being tortured or nearly killed. 😖 I was so glad this was finally resolved at the end of this chapter with them being rescued by the matoran...
    I guess we just had to hold our breath for the other toa this chapter, other wise we would be missing out on some of our favorite Matoran becoming some of the most awesome my favorite Toa-Igniki!!! 😎 they definitely were the toa with the most tech in this chapter of bionicle at the time!!!
    What do you others think???

    Actually, Eljay, there is one thing you missed, and one SERIOUS gripe I had with the Inika (the commercials always called them "yi-nai-ka", for some reason)
    According to the Lego Magazine (June-August issue (?) 2006), the Inika heads were meant to glow in the dark, which they SCRAPPED for some reason and never really made a mention of it after that.
    Lack of QC at Lego, that was.
    Also, technically speaking, wouldn't Axonn be the next review? Since Axonn debuted in the second comic and was technically the first titan released with Brutaka.

    • @sdFreerey

    I just got Nupraru a couple days ago in the mail, and I'm really enjoying him! And lucky to get the canister too, which is great for storing the Zamor Spheres so I don't lose them. I like that he has more pieces than most of his teammates, the claws are very nice. A drill is perfect for a Toa of Earth, and the batteries are still working (I will remove them soon so the Drill can continue lighting up).
    Although Nuparu is my first and so far only Toa Inika, I have parts from Jaller and Matoro which were in this big bag of Bionicle pieces (and other bits and pieces of other toys) which included Their swords which I have used for a moc!

  • @Sunaki1000

    Jaller, the Leader of the Ta-Koro Guard and Friend of the Toa of Light, Nuparu the Masterbuilder of the Boxor and Vahki, Hewki the Sportchampion, Hahli the Chronist and friend of Takanuva and Jaller, Matoro, the First Marotan what see a Toa, the brave Kongu.
    I like Nuparu, Hewkii and Jaller the Most. Thes 3 have very cool Designs and looks mighty as hell. The Strongest normal Toa, maybe stronger as the Toa Nuva.

  • @clockworkkirlia7475

    I think that my favourite team in terms of sets has to be Mahri. I know they had the Inika build, but this was the same team in their "Nuva" year, so I'll let it pass. I loved the masks and the weapons, the general build was awesome and while they had a lack of functions, they were all pretty dang nifty. Story-wise, I'll have to go with my beloved Mata/Nuva, though the Inika/Mahri come a close second. As for favourite Inika, I'm going to have to go with Matoro for spoilerish reasons.

    • @clockworkkirlia7475

      Though actually, my favourite Mahri may be Nuparu, since he's the brilliant inventor of the team. Hmm, I actually don't know. Another reason that I love the Mahri is that they aren't as clone set-like as the Toa preceding and succeeding them.

    its worth pointing out that the batteries in those weapons are easily replaced so limited battery life isnt an issue for these, its just three screws and they are right there, the piraka eyes are a bigger issue since thats clipped in, the circuit is also simple enough and built in such a way that even if the batteries leak, they probably will, it wont be able to reach anything difficult to fix and in the ones ive fixed it wasnt able to eat into the metal despite plenty of opportunity to do so, so i didnt have to do more than scrape the stuff off and reassemble with fresh batteries
