4 years after this video was uploaded I've just used it to change the battery in my Nissane X-Trail key fob. Nissan dealership quoted me, wait for it.......£287 to do this claiming key fob would need "coded" after the battery was renewed. Robbing Ba$&@$#!. Many thanks to the uploader !!!
Really glad it worked for you. I’ve walked in and out of so many dlrs, after their quotes. There are so many DIY jobs on cars, that dlrs see as easy money. That’s a Horrible quote, they gave you. About time these car makers took jobs like this on the chin and look after the customer. Thanks for watching .👍
Today i washed my clothes and my qashqai's key was in my throusers pocket. It was 30C, 30 minutes program. With this video i learned how to open it. So that i dried its inner side. This video is very helpful. Thank you very much. My smart key is stil working. There was totally 1,5-2 drops of water in it. I dried it by means of a cotton swab and hair drier. So watchers of this video, please do not panic, if you get into the same situation like me in the future.
I was fascinated to see a low battery warning on the dash and was hopeful that i could change the fob battery without issue. I even had a spare 2032 battery!! Thanks for a straightforward and useful video. Really appreciate your efforts.
Thank you...just used your video on my 2018 new car and it worked a dream. First time put the battery in back to front and second time worked a dream. Thank you
Thanks very much for such a useful video. It isn't obvious where to use the screwdriver on the case of the fob. And you even showed what type of battery is needed. Cheers!
Excellent video, thank you. Warning light came up on the dash and thought I would have to go to the dealership but your precise and clear instructions and video did the trick 👍
Thank you for this video, I have managed to change the battery in the fob but can't test it yet as my wife is out in the car doing MORE shopping!!!!!!!! Will test it the minute she returns. Only bought the car yesterday and both fobs were tied together so the car recognised the good one but as soon as we got home and took a fob each, of course I got the duff one! Hopefully your video will have sorted it. Thank you again. Dave.
Thank you very much,my key fob has been a bit hit and miss for a while but I didn't have a clue how to access the battery.Good video with easy to follow instructions. 👍
Thanks for your video. I just changed my battery. I was actually not sure that it needed changing, because although the close range 'keyless' door lock and ignition were not working, the remote still opened car from afar. Still everything works fine now, so I guess, for some reason, the near range functions need a better condition battery than the far range.
Paul Blampspied it always makes sense to change the battery first. These keyless ignition cars demand a lot of power from the battery. It seems to be a common issue. Thanks for watching
my 2016 Leaf has a similar looking key but the battery inside was a CR2025. so it might be worth checking before running to the store to buy one. luckily i have a pack that has all sorts of button shaped batteries inside. but yeah, annoying low key battery warning gone wo having to pay anyone a dime to replace it. thanks for the video.
Good video, thanks! The other day the battery of my spare fob had run out, so I opened the car with the actual key hidden within and the alarm went off - I had to disconnect the battery to stop it. I couldn't start the car because the start/stop button obviously didn't work, I just needed to move the car a few inches to be able to open the garage. My question is, what's that key for then?
It wasn’t reading your key, because the battery had died in your key. There’s a transponder in there , that connects with your cars computer, which allows the car to start. You can use the key for emergencies etc and access for repair.
Halfords have told me they can't do this and I have to go to a Nissan garage, they told me that when my first key was running low; now my spare is. Is it really safe to do it myself?
Ok so after battery change and verifying 3.2V, correctly replaced. Why does the low fob battery warning continue to occur every time you start car. Appatently this is a very common query on the net that nobody has yet answered. PS other than the warning, the key functions fine.
I suspect it’s a relearn process, but if it carries on, I’d take it to a dealer to get it recalibrated or programmed. Maybe because the battery was drained too much.

Many thanks for this video, it is very much appreciated. A local Nissan dealer charged £21.94 to change a battery in December 2016.

Hopefully, you’re all sorted. These batteries drain a lot quicker these days. Should be ok.👍
Great video thanks. I just used the edge of the “real key” to open the fob. I did not know that there is a real key in the fob until I saw your video!

Thank you for the imformative video.
Just a quick question what are rhe chances of the key code not being recognised after new battery installation.?
There’s a chance that may have happened, when the key is completely dead.
Lovely :-) I was having a nightmare with trying to find out how to do this😂

Yours is possible a different set up, requiring a different battery. Mines from the factory. Always worth checking owners manual first.👍

Crazy isn’t it. They should do it for free.
With my experience of Nissan its all about ripping people off. Scare tactics so you have the work done with them.
Perfect. Thanks for your video. Followed and completed as you were doing it. Easy.

You can use the key for what you did and to turn off the airbag.
