Don’t think he gets enough credit. Has made some great music and created interesting guitar licks.
Most importantly, he made thousands of kids pick up the guitar
@@AvAfanfromfrance very true.
And for his top notch research into aliens.
I think he gets enough credit! Blink are a staple throwback band, aging very well, plenty of new(younger) listeners, still very relevant, still getting air time and now Tom has a signature model.
He’s sold like 30 million albums, probably has sold more signature guitars then any other musician ever, one of the most influential guitarist of the past 30 years so many famous musicians have stated he’s the reason they picked up a guitar and/or blink is the reason they are a musician if you look up every successful band since enema of the state came out there is a really good chance the guitarist started playing because of Tom and/or because of blink it’s not a questionable thing it’s just facts I mean even many of the SoundCloud rappers were influenced by blink many videos of them doing blink covers. Blink is the equivalent of the Beatles as far as serious influence of the past 25 years no other band has been as influential as blink in the past 25 years love them or hate them it’s just facts. What’s really crazy is the different genres of famous bands/artists that are influenced from blink from metal to rap to top 40 pop to pop rock to indie rock to electronic to punk just all different genres of musicians were influenced by blink and many stating without blink they would not exist. On that big of a scale only a few bands have been that influential they are up there with Nirvana and the Beatles. Blink is a massive band they are not as widely respected publicly like Nirvana and The Beatles still a huge band but not as huge as them but they are every bit as influential. With that being said saying Tom doesn’t get enough credit is the furthest thing from the truth if anything he gets more credit then he deserves he’s not some great guitarist technically and not a great singer technically he’s just an amazing songwriter that’s what it really breaks down to not his playing or singing because he’s just an average guitarist and singer but he gets tons of credit for both when so many people are so much better then him but because he’s such an amazing songwriter he gets credit as a good guitarist and singer.
This video perfectly encapsulates the reason Tom is a guitar icon - not because of skill but his authenticity in why and what he does. Thank you Tom and Fender for bringing us the amazing music and this piece of art back!
We're honored by your kind words! 🤘
i can watch Tom talk about anything for hours
Don’t mention aliens otherwise you might well be!!😂😂😂
he needs a podcast!!
@@MagicPants647 he s a weird guy
@@MagicPants647 He has one, To The Stars podcast
Yeah he's such a young at heart guy. I like his goofy stuff too even though I don't believe in aliens
Thank you Tom and Fender for making another dream come true for all of us nostalgic kids! We really appreciate this.
Beautiful guitar as well.
You must have a good bank account. Save yourself some dough and make your own.
Rock on! Appreciate the kind words
Thank you Fender, Squier, and Tom Delonge, for inspiring this 64 year old kid to pick up the guitar for the first time in 47 years.
@@fender This guitar is terrible! Get a real strat not this piece of poop.
Totally nailed it when he mentioned essentially combining lead & rhythm guitar into one part. Doing it that way just works so much better when it's one guitarist and it's so fun to write like that.
It’s like the smiths or some midwest emo riffs. It’s always really pleasant.
@@bluemcdaniel99 Yeah, I was gonna mention The Smiths too.
Cant do it live
I can’t even fathom how many kids picked up a guitar in the last 20+ years because of this guy.
Me
Or drumsticks, me
The first song I learned when I was young was Adams song. Thank you Tom!

This is the best interview I've seen with Tom. Very self reflective and aware of his work, what it is and what it's not.
ruclips.net/video/tuM2ecrsRpk/видео.html
and he is a humble person too!! def my fave guitarist behind evh and tom morello
Yes, he said it very well
Watch his persuit of tone interview
The second bridge riff from “First Date” is so cleverly written. It’s almost impossible to figure out where it begins and ends once it gets going. It’s genius.
Tom Delonge and minimalist John Frusciante (from the _Californication_ to _By the Way_ era) inspired a generation of kids to pick up a guitar in the late '90s/early '00s. It was just simple riffs, simple chords, no capos, no weird tunings and one guitar for the whole song. What a great time to learn the guitar.
Simple things for simple minds! 😉
@teezee44 I know. That's why I said John Frusciante from the _Californication_ to _By the Way_ era. John Frusciante from _Stadium Arcadium_ onwards is a totally different player.
When he rejoined the band in 1998, after getting clean from drugs, I believe he had no guitars. He sold his guitars to pay for his drug addiction, so he pretty much had to learn how to play again and get comfortable in a band. That's why those albums have very minimalistic guitar playing, especially _Californication._
I wasn't comparing Tom Delonge and John Frusciante stylistically. The point I was trying to make was this: because they wrote such simple songs in the late '90s and early '00s, they inspired a lot of beginner guitarists. So many kids started playing guitar by learning the riffs for _Dammit, Stay Together for the Kids, Adam's Song, Californication, Otherside_ or _What's My Age Again?_
For example, _Californication_ was the first song I ever learned. It had everything a beginner needed to develop their skills: a repetitive riff for the intro and most of the verse, a second riff at the end of each verse, a simple chord pattern for the pre-chorus and chorus, and then a really simple solo. Although John Frusciante's playing is better now, I doubt there are many kids learning _Black Summer_ as their first song.
@@caliente-frio3966 yep, nailed it.
@@anjamiranda5598 lol
Ive never cared for frusciante personally. Other than his rhythms. I do like the Peppers as a band. But His leads just sound atrocious to me and I find him vastly overrated and sounding out of tune quite often. Idk. Just my opinion. I know he has a cult following. Love the rhythm parts. It’s just all the other stuff I can’t stand.
"Just make some noise". Best quote and inspiration for young musicians coming up in the world. Thankyou #TomDeLonge #Blink182 , you are so appreciated and admired. Friggen awesome. I have a band of 12-13 year olds learning Blink 182 Songs in 2023. It is very cool to stand on the side and watch them enjoy trying to replicate or cover these songs. Magic!
say whatever you want about tom, but he is one of the greatest artists from his era & a member of the greatest pop punk band to ever do it.
All that said and not an exaggeration spoken. 👌🏼
He is a mediocre guitarist at his absolute best, but he is an excellent songwriter.
One of the most influential musicians ever. Glad I have a chance to snag one of these bad boys
Tom DeLonge was the first rock star I truly connected with when I was 15 in the early 2000's. I have so much love and appreciation for him and the rest of Blink 182. I cannot wait for the new album!
Ppl forget they inspired us gen-Y's and we were their first market in that period
Love it, but $1300 for a single pickup MiM Strat? Yikes.
He is right. They had that habit of mixing riffs and power chords which set them a part from Green Day. I remember talking about that with my friends in high school!
Greetings from Italy!
Enema of the state was the first time I learnt an album start to finish and I’ll never forget the feeling when I finished playing anthem; just euphoric and real pure emotions
Thanks for inspiring me to play guitar tom ❤️
Nice! Blink-182 was the first rock band I ever saw live. They were opening for Goldfinger and Smash Mouth at La Luna in Portland, in December 1997. We walked in right before they played Dammit, it was amazing.
god bless LaLuna! What a time to be alive in PDX.
@@patrickready5374 Yeah it was great to have an all ages venue like that, we saw so many good shows there.
Tom the legend is back and better than ever. And they’re even more amazing live. Can’t wait for the new album Tom. Blink for life 🤘
I love that after all these years, Tom (and Mark as well) still are so humble about their own skills as musicians. I've never once heard them claim they were even good guitar/base players, let alone great ones, and hearing Tom say his goal was just to be "decent" made me chuckle.
These guys are actually pretty good now, but they've always given all the credit to Travis in terms of musical talent. Even if he's never going to win any best guitarist awards, he's definitely got an ear for rifts & catchy melodies, and can find ways to make awesome music anyway.
So grateful to get to see the greatest version of Tom . He’s really come into his own, and I feel like his power, humility, and nostalgia, have really merged at this point in his career where he has regain my respect.
A true legend! Thanks Tom for inspiring millions of kids just like us over all these years 🤍
cool colors, but...1300 for a strat with 1 pickup? no left handed versions, i'll pass.
Yeah…I mean also I’m sure once it’s sold out you could sell it for a lot more in a year. So it’s pricey for a one pickup. But you def could play it at home, keep it in good condition and sell it at the right time if you don’t like it…then pick up something else.
Every guitar player needs to hear this message Tom's relaying and really take it to heart.
My hearts happy for all the millenials out there suffering from adulthood, walking into guitar center making a childhood dream come true this week.
I love this guitar but can’t for the life of me understand how a made in Mexico strat with a single hum bucker that retails for 100 bucks cost 1300 freaking dollars! Sorry fender but while the OGs sell for crazy money on reverb this thing is way over priced
i'm never gonna own this guitar but i love watching him talk
He definitely inspired me to start playing guitar, i am 34 and in my teens i was obsessed with blink, although i then shifted to other genres blink was a huge influence back then on many people my age. I still have the old blink albums and still listen to them.
I admire his honesty and authenticity. He comes across as very grounded and relatable here. I’m looking forward to the album.
I started learning bass and guitar back in 2000 because of Mark and Tom. I started with bass because Mark was my favorite but then switched to guitar because bass got boring. If it wasn't for Blink 182, I wouldn't be a musician today. I am 34 years old now and I fell in love with blink when I was 12. Thanks for instilling in me my love of music!!! It is literally the one thing that defines me as a person.
You are me in other part of the world.same 34 I started with bass and switch to guitar and I'm musicians lol
This is so awesome - I really wanted this guitar when it first came out. I was in high school and I knew it was more of a one trick pony when it came to sound (not in a bad way, but limiting in a sense) so I went for an American Series Stratocaster at the time and funny enough it was in sky blue. I loved playing Blink on that too, but that Invader humbucker is so gnarly. I think the limits of this guitar actually can inspire more creativity like Tom clearly shows - not crazy it's more than twice the price of the original 2001, but I am really happy they put the correct American block saddles on this. The back neck plate is fun too - definitely a worthy successor and an upgrade IMO, the price just sucks for a Mexican Strat, but I say that about all the Fender Mexican stuff these days. The value is gone, but this is Limited so I guess I'm all in and hope to find a deal. Also, Tom's riffs inspired me so many different ways - he's so underrated as a song writer and hook crafter!
Yeah boy! My guy is back!
I reallyyyyy love this guitar but it’s just crazy how it’s $1,300. Tom said it himself it’s just a single (humbucker) pickup and single knob. It’s supposed to be simple but why isn’t the price tag. Like it costs more than lots of electronics do nowadays that can do a crazy amount of things why do I gotta wait till I’m old and burnt out before I can buy one of these.
Excited for this but also looking forward for a signature Starcaster run in the future. The ones he’s been using onstage look so dope!
Thank you, Tom and Fender for reissuing these signature Strats. Hopefully that curtails the absolutely ridiculous prices of the original run in the used market.
Sadly these are priced pretty much in line with the aftermarket costs. Makes no sense :(
@@bahooneyonastickleast you get a new one not a beat up one
These are $1300 so I don't know what's going to happen
@@bahooneyonastickI'd much rather pay $1300 for a brand new one than pay $2k+ for a beat up one from 2001, that's had god knows how many hands all over it. At the price they are, I could not justify buying an original despite wanting one for so long. I'm so glad they've reissued it, I ordered mine this morning ❤️
most people are buying rebuilt Squier versions of these on Reverb thanks to those prices. so much cooler than dropping 1200-1800 bucks on a "punk" guitar imo.
SO STOKED for this reissue, I’ve wanted one of these since I first started playing like 15 years ago!
I have one of the original Fender Tom DeLonge Strats from the year they came out in Graffiti Yellow. I use it a lot to record because it's a kick ass guitar.
So this guitar, which is made in Mexico, only has one pickup, no tone control, no push/pull tone control, no vibrato and no locking tuners costs more than the AMERICAN Performer Series!? Are you kidding me Fender!? I understand this is a "Limited Edition" and has a Seymour Duncan pickup, but come on!
Its an artist guitar - ita going to come at a premium
Yeah ridiculous. You might as well buy a Charvel DK
Well yeah, it's not a special musical instrument by any other way than nostalgia, but nostalgia is powerful.
Amazing. Blink 182 is one of my favourite bands and these Guitars were a huge reason for blinks iconic sounds. Some of their most iconic songs have been made with this guitar. Thanks So much Fender for bringing this back and thanks Tom and Blink!!!!
“It’s like nursery rhyme on meth” T.Delonge.
There’s about 1000 different ways he could have said that.💀
I love tom. His guitar playing is like 99% just creativity. If someone didn't tell me to learn blink songs first i almost definitely wouldn't be playing today
In time…we will realize how important and unique the 2000’s were. This band will be known in thousands of years as that one band… and they’ll play dammit in year4355
Any guitar Tom picks up and plays is no longer worth just $200, especially one he writes Blink tunes on 😂
1300 bucks for this is nuts. Kids, buy a decent squire and wire in your own Invader Pickup and save yourself like $1000.
Tom has really put in the work for this comeback. He's in great shape and hasn't sounded this good in 20 years.
Tom was the reason I wanted a strat when I was younger. But when I actually played one, the pickup arrangement under flat strings with no bridge, made it really hard for me to pluck or mute in my style. But this new guitar solves most of those problems, so I'm excited to try it out in the store!
I bought the pink squire single humbucker strat for like $200. Set it up with 11’s and it plays and sounds amazing! Definitely recommend it to those who can’t afford the Fender, it even stays in tune
My real dad was obsessed with Blink 182 and it became the band of my childhood and still to this day… every time I hear them in a store or play them in my car, my mood is boosted 10x and I’m not having a shitty day anymore.
As a self taught guitar plucker, I’ve had criticism for the way I play by other guitarists, but guess what? I don’t give a flying fudge cake what they think 😂
“Plug it in and make noise!”… well said Tom 💪
For Metal this guitar is awesome too.
I always liked the Tom Strat.
I've played a lot of HSS strats but no one sounds like the Tom Delonge signature.
Thanks Fender for re launching this gem of a guitar.
Tom Delonge is literally the one person who made me go and grab a guitar, and now I can't live without one.
" some people work their whole lives to be a great guitar player or singer, maybe I can be decent at both because I just want to write my own songs "
I really REALLY needed to hear that. I almost didn't click on this video
$1300 for a hardtail strat with a bridge humbucker made in Mexico
Authenticity over everything. That’s why we love Tom and why we love Blink.
I kind of want one to play around with and have. Also given the prices these things hit last time was insane. Limited run, but it’s very minimal good live guitar it seems. I dunno though unless I had 1.3k burning a hole in my pocket.
Enema of the State was the first cd I ever picked out as like a 5 or 6 year old kid. When I was in middle and high school I got into punk then hardcore. Started going to shows. Playing in bands. Going on tour And we all loved Blink. And would have their shit on repeat in the van on long ass drives. Feels like this guy and his 2 other bandmates are 70% responsible for trajectory of my life and probably the lives of alot of my peers. I fuckin love that they're still kicking. New album fuckin slaps too.
Full 6 minutes without a single alien talk. Rad!
First time in a while lmao
Still had the tee shirt on though.
Lol, didn’t he use a Les Paul when he recorded dammit?
I bought mine when I was 17, surf green. I still have it and it still sounds amazing
Sounds like you found "the one" 🙌🎸
@fender it's just a really well built guitar. Suits my sound and I idolised Blink at the time
I seriously want one - but not a Mexican made, poor QC, 1 pickup, 1 knob for $1400. Ain’t no way - that price is insane for it to be showing up to buyer’s houses beat to shit.
I always loved Blink and all of Tom's side projects. Boxcar Racer, Angels and Airwaves. Toms style is unique, but also a mix of classic California kid, simple yet complex. Love this dude. Can't wait to see them in October ❤️
If you mean in Vegas in October, I will see you there brother!
@@HotBizkit I'm a girl lol and yes I'll be at WWWY
im going go see them in July, i cant waittt😭💞
Always loved tom but 1200$ for a plug n play one humbucker sounds ridiculous. Maybe if he did this but 300-600$ or something.
One pick up LEGEND!!!! Thank you for the music Tom!!!
OH TOM JUST HAS TO DO THE ONE EYE SYMBOLISM HIDING BEHIND HIS GUITAR. WE ALL KNOW Yoybare anajjjbzjsje
5:33 does he play Touchdown Boy here?? 👀
I like that, he blew my mind with it.
"Being accessible is an art form."
-Tom DeLonge
I agree 100% Tom. I would rather listen to a song 3 kids wrote in their garage, then an over-produced, autotuned pop song. Punk still has soul!
There is simply no Blink 182 without him, because the other dude kept singing the "my yead" part wrong.
1600 dollar guitar with a soft case and no tone knob.
If you want a tone knob ur watching the wrong video

There are a lot more talented guitarists with a deep range of skills, but Tom and Blink as a whole were super special in a sense that they could absolutely lock melodies and feelings in you with just simplicity. To this day, a lot of their songs just ring in my head with the same feelings as when I first heard Blink. I think that's a lot harder to do. Kudos to Tom for staying confident in his craft.
I've watched COUNTELESS live performances of them on video. Every performance they played kind of shitty, and I was fine with that. I saw them live in person for the first time this year, and they played FLAWLESSLY, plus everything going on on stage was insane. Props, flames, stunts, etc.
Lovely guitar... but Fender are seriously taken the piss with the price of this..
Awesome video thanks for this, seeing these guys live last month was the greatest day of my life, Love you Tom🤟👽
👽 😂😂😂
That was a cool piece. Still have mine from 2002, but awesome they brought them back.
Tom did an incredible interview w/ Ernie Ball a few years back. Not even a huge Blink fan but man what an artist.
Thank you Fender for bringing back an Icon!
Just think that 1300 dollars for a Mexican “simple” strat it’s too much
invaders are some of the best pickups ever made when you have a taller bridge it allows more pole utilization increasing tonal clarity and balancing volume per string the downside is if you play hard the strings get caught
In the pursuit of tone doco he did a few years ago he shits all over this guitar, says its too small for him, like a violin almost, and the gibson is far more artistic and has more workmanship.
Tom and Billie are the reasons i play guitar and why i try to make every guitar 1 pup/vol.
Let’s have a conversation about an extremely overpriced Mexican made guitar.
What is the pedal model Tom is using in this video?
You only need one pickup to regurgitate 3 power chord teenie bopper corporate bubble gum"punk" i guess?
I love his attitude! It's been a hot minute since I listened to Blink. I'll have give them a re-listen. Good memories! BTW Fender you need to connect with Rivers Cuomo from Weezer and make a signature strat based on his original blue guitar. He literally wrote a song called Mexican Fender...
Tom being back at Fender makes me feel like everything’s gonna be fine.
Thank you for bringing back this absolute legend!
When I was about 15 years old, my dad took me to guitar center for my birthday and they had this exact Tom Delonge Signature Strat in Seafoam for $350. i would come home from school and play through the entirety of dude ranch, enema, TOYPAJ, etc. It's one of my favorite things that I own still to this day and I feel lucky to have an original.
Tom inspired me to make my guitar nice and simple! One pick up one volume know and some distortion😎
His guitar playing was just simple and that’s what made it sound so good!
Definitely one of my inspiration to play guitar🥲
Is it just me or around 5:36 does he start playing Touchdown Boy?
I have a 2001 Fender American strat in hot rod red with maple neck... I got it new in 2001 and have converted it into a Tom DeLonge strat over the years. It has a single invader pickup with a push/pull for coil splitting. The hardware is all black with fender black locking tuners. It is an absolute beast of an instrument, and can hold its own in just about all genres.
Fuckin love Tom and his guitar tones/style
Horus
I'm absolutely crushed lefties don't get even one of the color options of these. Such a sick guitar. I'll be longing for one til I'm dead it seems
Going with alot of people here, started playing in the 90s from the influence of blink and RHCP. This was literally one of my favorite guitars growing up I'd see in the MusiciansFriend catalog I'd get in the mail. I need to get one of these, just can't decide the color. Love the yellow but I already have a yellow Carvin, might have to still get that color though its too good.
i think tom knows more about gear and music than he lets on. also he's the reason i started playing guitar
I used to have that exact guitar, I got it from the Make A Wish foundation when I was 13. I've been fight a very rare kidney/liver disease all my life (I'm 34 now) and I have undergone 3 separate kidney transplants and 1 liver transplant in my life, alone with a combined total of 10 years on dialysis. Growing up Blink was my favorite band and Tom was my absolute hero. Sadly I brought my gear to an "ex friends" house for a jam session when I was 15 and I left it there because I was supposed to come back the following day to practice together again but ended up going into the hospital that night with a fever and coughing which turned out to be Pneumonia and I was hospitalized for 6 weeks. After I got out I called my "friend" to let him know I was coming by to get everything and he was like "Oh... I thought you were giving it to me because I didn't hear from you for so long". I was like "Dude I was on a ventilator in the hospital unconscious so I couldn't get a hold of you and my parents didn't know all my stuff was there so they never thought to contact him. Turns out while I was in the hospital he sold all my gear including my most prized possession which was my Tom Delonge strat, that guitar was my baby and meant everything to me. I still have never been able to get another one, I really miss it, I haven't been able to find any other guitar that feels and plays so smoothly.. Live and learn I guess.
Did you end up buying the reissue? I love it and it’s thick strings
whew doggy!!!! so many on reverb trying to sell their 20 year old copies for 3 times the price gotta be mad right now.
2:56 taco bell noise
The way he plays the Dammit riff here gives me so much validation. Its not how he plays it in the music video, so I've always felt like I was doing it wrong. Not anymore!
pretty much everything he says in this interview is why he is so successful as a musician, and a lot of why Blink 182 is a successful band. Such a cool attitude and philosophy toward music. Resonates well with me.
Yeah last time when he did a rig talk on his Gibson he also said that it was a 1000 times better than his Fender line and that he had been missing out.
Nice thumbnail one-eye freemasonic symbolism.
