This is my most favorite Petrolious video that I keep going back to watch. This gentleman likes architecture, classic Italian cars, and minimalism. Perfecto!
This is the automotive equivalent of Falling Water by Frank Lloyd Wright. He built a minimalist house over a waterfall in Pennsylvania back in 1935. The idea is that the flat surfaces and blank slate styling magnifies the beauty of the infinite layers of the natural landscape. This garage/studio space is not without style. The style is overly simple and flat so that the shape of the car is amplified. Think of this car was parked next to an 911 and a muscle car of the same era. The curves of the Porsche and the loud design of the muscle car would drown out the Ferrari. So this man built his garage to showcase this car that he finds so great in so many ways.
This is absolutely, absolutely spectacular: The design of the house, the car and the quality of the Petrolicious film itself. Great ambition on all counts. Thank you, gents.
At 2:32 “I enjoy driving the car on windy roads, where it’s not about speed, it’s about… being in the right gear, shifting up, shifting down… really getting a feeling for the car.” Could not have said it better. I've driven a Lotus Elise on California central coast roads (Big Sur, Carmel Valley, etc) for over seven years now, and this is exactly my mindset when I'm out for a drive. You keep being you, Holger!
The 512 Berlinetta Boxer was (and still is) my favourite Ferrari. Growing up in the 1970s and early 1980s, you liked the Countach, the Stratos, the Bora, the Khamsin, the Pantera...and of course, the stunningly beautiful 512 BB. In my opinion Ferrari never got the Supercar Wedge nailed more perfectly than this. Thanks for this stunning video.
Italy had in the 70s and 80s, the most beautiful sports cars in the world, iconic cars designed by Leonardo Fioravanti for Pininfarina (like the 512 bb) or the Lamborghini Countach, designed by Marcello Gandini for Bertone.
it doesnt matter if he had the worst car he loves the car and why are we here because we love cars and like always beauty is in the eyes of the beholder
In 1981 I had the pleasure of driving a yellow bb512 from LA to Aspen. One of the most memorable trips of my life. Very heavy steering under 70mph, then as as easy to throw around as a Lotus elan. Soo cool and the sound of that engine just behind my head. Top of the wow factor.
The video points to many aesthetic values, as well as the passion of this owner. The comments cover them pretty good, but there's one thing that impresses me from Mr. Schubert; he does not care at all about what people are going to think of him parking the car in the office, or the old-fashioned car,...nothing. He is just above all of that noise. Chapeau !
I was watching this going: "Yes... Oh yes... Of course... Yes... Yes..." What a beautiful vid and what a beautiful car... Well done!!! Both to you and to the owner!!!
I remember watching this video when it first came out and I never get tired of it , it’s just a beautiful combination of architectural art and automotive design just pure magic .
I have my bicycle in my living room too, it creates an atmosphere of exquisit relaxation, the shapes of the wheels represent the cosmos turning and moving forwards but always connected to the ground, the pedals are a marvelous feat of engineering that connect the physical energy of the body to the gears so you become the machine. I wanted to create an environment with only what I needed or better said could afford, I have my bike, a mattress I bought off craigslist and my messenger bag for work.
4:26 the car could be parked ever so slightly more to the right such that the Ferrari logo is perfectly centered and halved by the glass panes superimposed in front of it. :D
Michael Meliambro why not? I’ve seen many Ferraris, specially the older ones, that look really classy. Though I’m more inclined to think the driver is the one who makes or breaks the class of the car.

Michael Meliambro wow, calm down, to call other people’s interests as fetishes and mental issues is a bit too much. This was my dream. I wanted to design cars since I was young. Thought the dream was far fetched and went into finance instead. If you can't design them, buy them! Lol but to any young people with the same dream watching this, don't dodge your dream. It will haunt you. Never give up and you can succeed like this man did.
This appeals to me - my "dream" house would be similar - first floor would be a six car garage, arranged three by three, polished concrete floors, glass garage doors, sitting areas arranged down the center, a centered, cantilevered staircase in the middle leading to the second floor living area, two bedrooms (one on each end) with en suite, a combination living room/sitting area surrounding a stone and glass fireplace, professional grade kitchen with a walkout dining area adjacent a beautifully landscaped, lush swimming pool, all done in a very sleek minimalist style with floor to ceiling windows - of course filled with six of my favorite vehicles!
First Ferrari I have ever seen in person at the age of 2, I was on holiday in Switzerland and still remember that moment vividly, it was in that colour aswell. Stunning car.
Wow. Different people have different opinions! That's crazy! :) When I was a kid in the late 1980s I was absolutely obsessed with the Testarossa - and still am (I just watched more than a view videos of TRs)... I was never aware of the Boxer (or 288 GTO) until I saw one in the Ferrari service department way back then... I also think the Testarossa is one of the most beautiful cars ever. I think the F40 and 288 GTO are some of the most beautiful cars ever (I can never decide which is better), but at specific angles from the side, in my opinion, the 288 GTO is the most beautiful car on earth. This late-model boxer in this dark grey color looks amazing thanks to having the 308/288GTO's front end and that arch over the front wheels, but that curving line doesn't continue the curve over the door and rear fender like it does on the 308/GTO... so the back is kind of "blah" for me compared to a 288 GTO- or the Testarossa which has all kinds of stuff going on in the back. For me, the Testarossa has the more interesting back end, while the Boxer has the more beautiful front end (if the orange turn signal lenses were white or grey). The 288 GTO has it all... unless you look at it directly from the front. :) (I don't know why I typed all this either- so please don't ask!)
I've been told, by a couple of Ferrari owners, that the 512 BB was a really BAD Ferrari. Badly made and not that good on handling. Don't care, it was the fastest car in the "Top Trumps" kid's card game when I was young!
The late 70's weren't a good time for the company, and the smog laws played hell with the engines too. But it was still a good time for styling, and the early BB 512's with carbs made a great intake sound. But keeping those old weber 3 barrel carbs working right wasn't fun. Got a good look at a few of them that moved through an exotic car place near where I used to live. They fit drivers a lot better than the later Testarossa though.
Sean Lynch Arrgh, probably Bosch K-jetronic, or CIS injection. It worked well, but when something decided to go out could be a bitch to get working right again. They should have skipped K-jet and gone with at least L-jet, or since they were already expensive cars, just gone to Motronic.
A 512 was my first Ferrari. It was a troubled car from the start and I held onto it two years too long (I owned it 2 years and 1 month). At the time it looked good, but I was always wishing I had bought something else that didn't give me weekly problems. I would say it was a lemon, but my 355 wasn't much better with the 458 only slightly better than that. I am Porsche (and my old 97 NSX S) only now and have never been let down. Still, it is great to see someone appreciate this car so much; in the end that's what it's all about.
colin hayes The best thing about the car. The color. Sorry, but I HATE red. I have never owned, nor will ever own a red car. You can't give me one, I won't take it, can't drive blindfold. Seen the beige 458? Lovely.
mescko I quite like a red car now and again, but I am inclined to agree with you in most instances - especially with Ferraris. They look especially stunning in many colours apart from red, and I absolutely love the grey on the 512 in the video. My own 456 was silver, though ironically, I'd have liked a red one of those as they're so rare in that colour. If I were buying a 458 or looking for a 430? Pretty much any colour other than red, frankly.
The E-Type mk1 in the flesh is unbelievably beautiful and more exuberant up close than it is in the pictures. I love Italian, especially Ferrari, but Lambos just don't cut it. Ferrari, Jaguar, Porsche all have racing pedigree. Lambo... Um
Then say you love Ferrari first and that you love Italian because of Ferrari. Lambo's practically have Audi engines in them nowadays with stupid interior designs to make them look like fighter jets, Pagani Zonda's have engines, transmission's, and drive-trains made by Mercedes, and who wants a Vespa or a Fiat unless you're some hipster college student wearing ironic glasses? Only other Italian brand that I love is Maserati...again Ferrari owned and made for the most part. Ferrari has some of the richest and most reputable heritage in racing and motorsport, along with elite engineering and design.
James Harris Ferrari is about to spinoff from Fiat ! After nearly 115 years the Fiat name changes and left Turin. The new company that controls the home of Detroit will be called Chrysler Fiat Automobiles, will have a new logo FCA
yes i'll find you a link... Not sure if they really destroyed it but looks like it from the articles about this beautiful bridge. articles.latimes.com/2010/feb/04/local/la-me-brentwood-garage5-2010feb05
That article is from 2010 and it sounds like it was written before the bridge was built. This video is from 2013 -- looks like he was able to build it after all.
It was the entire house, he sold the property for 11.7 mill, people were complaining about the bridge, and city officials revoked the license for the bridge, so this guy was like f*** it and Tore the whole thing down
This video is for the people who think cars should be displayed as art. Normally I hate people who just own a car to look at, but I love how this guy does it. Displays it as art but yet still uses it because it is a car; instead of hiding it away from the public eye.
Happy I found this channel...very well done. I grew up dreaming I dreaming I would have this car; never did, but it's good to see that the design has stood the test of time...and them some
I keep telling myself, that now with the new minimum wage at fast food restaurants in California, I will be able to reach the level depicted in this video in no time. I feel that every time I ask: "You want fries with that" I am a step closer to this lifestyle. Very inspirational sir, thank you!
Petrolicious: rich people talking about classic cars that you'll never be able to afford + pretty cinematography. I get that these cars are fun to film and have great histories, but I love seeing the more down-to-earth cars that are owned by regular people.
that's one way to see things, one person can have a classic top car if and only if you save money for that, that's the hard part, that's not impossible.
Pedro Guerreiro I know you can certainly buy a lot of the more affordable classics by saving up, but the kind of guy that owns a vintage Ferrari like that probably didn't save up for it, they were probably wealthy already. The only Ferrari I could afford is a high mileage 348/355/360, and that would still be a stretch.
I don't mind that some people can afford nicer cars and whatnot, I just prefer the Petrolicious episodes where it's a more ordinary car that's been made special as opposed to an expensive fancy car that's just bought.
I liked it a lot. The thing that caught my eye, peripherally was the sleekness of the car. I like the gray color against the white background. I like the car best with headlights closed. You have sleek then you have a soft almost organic shape in the couch, then you have a right angles in the desk. Multiple extremes in one room. Bravo..
I agree totally: 'mildly pretentious' is pretty well spot on. Particularly the stuff about backing the car out of the driveway...I feel like yelling: 'ffs man, you're just backing your car out of a driveway, you're not painting a masterpiece'. Still despite this, I found this fascinating, and I've always loved the looks of the 512BBi - kinda looks like an Italian idea of a muscle car, I think.
This is the nicest 512 BB I have ever seen. The colour scheme is perfect for this car. I love the idea of combining a workspace with housing the car too. It's a terrific idea and thank you for sharing your car with us
Excellent appreciation of a very nice example of my personal favorite "Supercar" if you will. No surprise that someone who understands design, proportion, and attention to detail would choose a BB as it has an unequaled attitude... full of menace, confidence, grace & power...and take off the rear licence plate and all of a sudden the rear 3/4's view (never quite equal to the heady promise of the front from ALL angles) achieves a sparseness and near minimalism that nicely resolves the overall effect. Stunning, beautiful simplicity.
In my opinion i think all cars have character. One of the cars i have to own before i die is a geo metro 4 door white with black bumpers. My ex had one for a few months and just driving that thing around in corners and mashing the pedal to keep up with residential traffic was a fun hilarious experience that kept me smiling.
What a find ! Homage to one of the last "supercars". A Ferrari for the road in all its beauty and with all its imperfections. For all those whose moms still make them wear shorts, you got to remember that Ferrari used to build road cars only in order to financially support his racing program. That's why the road cars had so many imperfections - they were almost an 'afterthought'.
Just superb. Lucky, lucky, lucky boy. I love the garage space. Puts me in mind of the garage from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. I wouldn't get much 'work' done in there. I'd mostly be sat on that lovely sofa with a cold drink, staring at the car.
you weren't from a village, my family was and now they have a college education, along with six-figures a year so please don't find a random reason to demonize someone who worked hard for their possesions.
My first New , showroom car VW scirocco 1982. All white. 1600CL (Uk). Made me happy. The single sweep windscreen wiper, that rear window spoiler , new things, A 924 on a budget. Oh, and the on board "computer" dash. Love !

This was my dream. I wanted to design cars since I was young. Thought the dream was far fetched and went into finance instead. If you can't design them, buy them! Lol but to any young people with the same dream watching this, don't dodge your dream. It will haunt you. Never give up and you can succeed like this man did.
he got his shit together.
The Last Alingod what chu mean
2 most beautifull ferrari"s ever-512 bbi and 288 gto! this one looks more agresive then the gto which looks more sporty. only me thinking loud.
+Ron Elberg you sir have a very odd definition of beauty, at least according to most car guys.
+sjpro1 i know. i am very old school.
First Ferrari I have ever seen in person at the age of 2, I was on holiday in Switzerland and still remember that moment vividly, it was in that colour aswell. Stunning car.
One third for the car, one third for the office and one third for a BIG box of tissues.
The most beautiful car on earth - have felt that way for 40 years now
I think the Testarossa is WAY more beautyfull.
You find the Ferrari cheese grater sexy?!?!
LeftyPlaysRighty
Very.
+Niepi You poor soul.
+LeftyPlaysRighty yep.
Wow. Different people have different opinions! That's crazy! :)
When I was a kid in the late 1980s I was absolutely obsessed with the Testarossa - and still am (I just watched more than a view videos of TRs)...
(I don't know why I typed all this either- so please don't ask!)
The way the car backed from parking reminded me of the Thunderbirds British TV series.
Oldbmwr100rs
This is probably an 83/84/85. Its injected.
Sean Lynch Arrgh, probably Bosch K-jetronic, or CIS injection. It worked well, but when something decided to go out could be a bitch to get working right again. They should have skipped K-jet and gone with at least L-jet, or since they were already expensive cars, just gone to Motronic.
Hey thanks for going negative
A 512 was my first Ferrari. It was a troubled car from the start and I held onto it two years too long (I owned it 2 years and 1 month). At the time it looked good, but I was always wishing I had bought something else that didn't give me weekly problems. I would say it was a lemon, but my 355 wasn't much better with the 458 only slightly better than that. I am Porsche (and my old 97 NSX S) only now and have never been let down. Still, it is great to see someone appreciate this car so much; in the end that's what it's all about.
Its a shame the nosy neighbors and the city council made him get rid of that bridge
SAMann729 What do you mean? How does he get the car in and out now?
aamirqz That's just idiotic... Neighbours seem to be complete brats with a "he has a nicer house than me, I'll ruin it!" attitude...
Did I even mention I FUCKING HATE California?
@@aamirqz I can not fucking beleive that shit, that house was a masterpiece of modern architecture, holy shit fucking vermin of people.
@@nfareview A Land infested of the fucking left-liberal piece of garbage people
This beautiful Ferrari is indeed a masterpiece of automotive art.
pop up lights make a car look 100x sexier
Six years later and this vid still gives me chills. Pure Art!
Yes .. art but the bridge they tore it down .
He certainly knows what he likes, though I'm guessing that he doesn't get asked to a lot of parties.
did you notice the color of his sweater
Frank Giuffrida
Hmmm. Grey. Like his 512 Like his house. Like his hair without Grecian2000, and like his personality.
colin hayes The best thing about the car.
+mescko please tell me more
One of my all time favorites. I've had three of these and restored a couple as well. Nothing beats a Boxer.
Not a boxer
The E-Type mk1 in the flesh is unbelievably beautiful and more exuberant up close than it is in the pictures.
I love Italian, especially Ferrari, but Lambos just don't cut it.
Ferrari, Jaguar, Porsche all have racing pedigree.
Lambo... Um
E-Type Mk1 1961 or 1962 good taste ! i'm also a Ferrari lover ... and what about the lamborghini miura, my dream that will never come true !!
Maserati is owned by Fiat, along with Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Lancia, including the Chrysler brands, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, and SRT.
James Harris Ferrari is about to spinoff from Fiat ! After nearly 115 years the Fiat name changes and left Turin. The new company that controls the home of Detroit will be called Chrysler Fiat Automobiles, will have a new logo FCA
A diablo or a countach is better than any modern lambo... lamborghini is dead
Dunno how much times I've watched this....think I'm addicted
Sad the 1.5M $ bridge had to be destroyed afterward... whiny californians had the city take back his license to build it.
yes i'll find you a link...
It was the entire house, he sold the property for 11.7 mill, people were complaining about the bridge, and city officials revoked the license for the bridge, so this guy was like f*** it and Tore the whole thing down
soo classy...architect, minimalist, clean, simple, and classic sport car :)
I don't mean to ignore that incredible car....but can anyone advise me who/what that piece of music is with the piano at the end?
Erik Satie?
Erik Satie - Gymnopedie No. 1
The comment I've been looking for. Thanks!!!!
it's not like the original version. you know the title of the version in the video?
@@505-g6t ya it's like a less complex version of the piece or maybe inspired by
This video is for the people who think cars should be displayed as art. Normally I hate people who just own a car to look at, but I love how this guy does it. Displays it as art but yet still uses it because it is a car; instead of hiding it away from the public eye.
Plot twist: the car is also his wife
J Ferrer and he enters it through the exhaust
Happy I found this channel...very well done. I grew up dreaming I dreaming I would have this car; never did, but it's good to see that the design has stood the test of time...and them some
It's a fine question
This guy seems a bit paranoid.
I keep telling myself, that now with the new minimum wage at fast food restaurants in California, I will be able to reach the level depicted in this video in no time. I feel that every time I ask: "You want fries with that" I am a step closer to this lifestyle.
Very inspirational sir, thank you!
I came to say the same thing, roughly. I work my ass off and can barely afford basic shit.
***** yeah i understand that sir.
Danny Zabolotny so what if we can't afford it. if we can't afford everything then nothing special. earn your $to get it
I don't mind that some people can afford nicer cars and whatnot, I just prefer the Petrolicious episodes where it's a more ordinary car that's been made special as opposed to an expensive fancy car that's just bought.
Bravo..
this guys not married
Why should he?
He gets to do what he wants, when he wants. Thus, he is happy.
One of my favourite cars of all time. You can only dream though.
Is it because I am absolutely baked, or is this guy really talking a lot of mildly pretentious blabla? ^^^ Pretentious, but fascinating to listen to.
Toarcade it's the most pretentious thing I've seen in a while.
I find him pedantic, the designer cliché incarnated.
This is the nicest 512 BB I have ever seen. The colour scheme is perfect for this car. I love the idea of combining a workspace with housing the car too. It's a terrific idea and thank you for sharing your car with us
HIs house must smell like exhaust fumes a lot
Sitrush He´s got the ramp to avoid that...He rolls in and rolls out by lifting it.
Stunning, beautiful simplicity.
lol, I have a geo prizm
In my opinion i think all cars have character. One of the cars i have to own before i die is a geo metro 4 door white with black bumpers. My ex had one for a few months and just driving that thing around in corners and mashing the pedal to keep up with residential traffic was a fun hilarious experience that kept me smiling.
+Eduardo Sida There's is one car in existence that doesn't have character or personality. The Nissan Sunny.
+Climatic Bacon omg that thing makes me want to puke. Such lack of character!
@@0neo Tesla is worse
This is by far my favorite appreciation for a machine, it is art in motion. ❤
BEEF!
Vintage Beef SWAG!!!
What a find ! Homage to one of the last "supercars". A Ferrari for the road in all its beauty and with all its imperfections. For all those whose moms still make them wear shorts, you got to remember that Ferrari used to build road cars only in order to financially support his racing program. That's why the road cars had so many imperfections - they were almost an 'afterthought'.
this guy needs a woman
Why?
Like a rat needs the plague ? Cant you tell his wife is the car ? They even got matching color sweaters ..
Meanwhile, in a remote village in the middle of Africa...

+Rickusty fuck Africa, stop pretending to care about something that you do nothing to help

ufster81 it wasnt a comeback, theres no need for one over the web. It was an actual question mate
Look at his crazy, cool eyes. It looks like he's satisfied with everything.
Beautifully put together!
My first New , showroom car VW scirocco 1982. All white. 1600CL (Uk). Made me happy. The single sweep windscreen wiper, that rear window spoiler , new things, A 924 on a budget. Oh, and the on board "computer" dash. Love !
