this is 100 year of saree in bollywood not india , India is very big and diverse in their saree fashion from one region to another .
So true.. There are more than 1600 ethnicities in india.. Who have been wearing their ethnicity styled sari since their ethnicity birth..not since 100 years or specific year as fashion... This is more like hundred years of sari style in bollwood.. Even that ain't accurate since they showed last two as kanjivaram sari...and bollywood doesn't have kanjivaram sari as fashion trend..
+sakurakou2009 its not even bollywood. This video is representing more of south india than north india
agreed, especially the 1940s, 1970s, 1980s and 2000s...if I remember correctly, velvet choli blouses were popularised in the north by Nargis during the 1940s, whereas the puffed-up sleeves had a stronger following in the south. about the 1970's n 1980s looks, the only thing that came to my mind was Southern star Sridevi in Sigappu Rojakkal (70s) and her famous cameo in Jaanbaaz (80s), and finally, the Kanjivaram saree used in the 2000's look kinda speaks for itself ;) nonetheless a great video tho...
sakurakou2009 u r ryt.... but she mentioned dat dis is d way she has visualised revolution of sarees.... bcz if u go in depth ders a lot of changes in kancheevaram to banaras sarees......
exactly... when see my mom and her friends school n college photos (around 1960s and 65 )..trend shown in abv video 1940..and 30..was still there..
i love how you Indian people don't lose your own character even when other cultures have been coming to your country
Wont exactly say that cuz none of us indian kids can recite the hindi alphabet anymore. We are too westernised for it.
Vinnie Sachdeva Sad but true for the elite and upper middle class. Note that according to stats from 2014, only 30% Indians can speak English and further, only a third of this population has some semblance of reading and writing aptitude. Thus, the rest of the population is being oppressed by merely the lack of being fluent in a language not even their own (English everywhere on the Internet, government & legal documents, nutrition and medicine labels, TV, newspapers and what not).
The problem was wonderfully summarized in this article:
www.forbes.com/sites/realspin/2014/11/06/the-problem-with-the-english-language-in-india/#5beee90a403e
👍👍👍
Do you know we didn't loose our culture coz we love our culture soo much and thanku so much for appreciating us
Only some places North India are little westernised but Rest of India is very cultural.
I love India 😍❤

Mariam Arafa Saaame I am Egyptian and I adore the indian culture 😍😍❤❤
I love that she is both funny and jolly in this video. Her facial expressions are entertaining and there never was a dull moment in the entire video. The model is so beautiful as well. Bravo!
The model did such a great job at portraying all the phases. **clapping**
I'm Nigerian and i sooooooo love Indian Culture. I have Indian friends who persuaded me to visit India and hopefully it will come true *fingers-crossed*.
So how was your trip?

There doesn't seem to be an awkward decade that everyone wants to forget in Indian fashion!
Christine Davis Some were a little awkward. Like the hair and sleeves of the 40s girl.
Sarees, maybe not. Maybe because traditions clothes hardly ever get drastically modified. But Indian popculture wardrobe in the 90s could really give 80s USA a run for their money in awkwardness though
Wild 70 and 80s
saris were always fine, but bollywood in the 80s.... of god
Aww I wish that was true
Everytime I watch one of these videos about India, I find almost(sometimes more than) 50% of the comments talking about how India is extremy diverse and the video is 'inaccurate'. Do you expect them to make a 2 hours long video, showcasing every culture and heritage there is in India? Jeez, stop complaining and appreciate the damn video.
True, its impractical and the video would be a TV series 😂
@@kalaiselvim4121 it doesn't matter
@@kalaiselvim4121 2000's one looks kinda southern to me
@@kalaiselvim4121 ummm Seematti was founded by South Indian women and many of the saris in the video are South Indian. My grandma always wears 1970s saris and one of my mom’s wedding dress was like the 2000’s sari.
Two hours is toooo short actually 😂💕👌
The 60s look wins in every country. Red lips, nails and pearls is the holy trinity of pretty.
this is more like 100 years of saree in bollywood. because the saree fashion cannot be summarised in just one look per decade.. India is so diverse and vivid that each and every region has its own style of wearing saree that has transitioned through decades.
Sampashree Mallick Bollywood has a huge contribution in setting a trend ...
I did not know mother theresa was playing in Bollywood movies
Did u not watched the video ? Lol
It literally showed different regions ..not just bollywood
Sampashree Mallick absolutely true
Sampashree Mallick true that
I loved 2000 it reminded of the traditional Tamil weddings.
I can't get over how beautiful this woman is :O
Oh pls Sakshi singh! I am an Indian too, but i wouldn't say that all Indians are beautiful.
What a parochial statement.
you'd smash

In 20 years, Saree will be international. I am an Afghan and I see Afghans wearing Sarees in wedding.
Wow that's so nice 😊😊😊
What really?? Its really fascinating for me as an indian
@@shradha5844 I'm African and in my country sarees are worn by a lot of people in wedding. They are the best really 😊
It’s part of south Asian culture, I hope people would respect that. I’m pretty sure people have their own cultural clothes ...

damn the model (sorry don't know her name) is adaptable. I mean she looks completely different each time
70’s and 80’s were my favorite! Indian dance is so awesome.

i couldn't agree more...
I'm so much into watching historical fashion, mostly European. I can't tell you how happy this video made me 💕😭😍
Ok
Your 80s looked lightyears better than ours in US.

Hi, best regards from India. I love ancient Egyptian culture, fashion and the melodious Egyptian and Coptic languages.🕉🙏🇮🇳
India is such a huge and diverse country and this was a nice way to include most of the regions. The progress of different styles of drapes and weaves was chalked out well. The video was well structured and meticulously executed. It is great to hear Ms. Beena Kannan's voice as the introductory note. She is one of the woman who inspired a change in the lives of many woman . Well! at least to me. Continue flying high Seematti .
The model should have been much more darker though. I am here in India , the every day Punjab , Madrasi etc.. does not look like this gal.
Lechiffresix six it depends on your ethnicity.
@@jesin0005 Madrasi is just a way to address people who belonged to Chennai since its original name was Madras. I understand some people can use it in a discriminatory way but that happens to almost all the regions in India and many times it's used in a generic way to address the region so no need to get offended. For example, my grandmother still calls it Madras and some of her distant relatives are referred to as Madraasi because that was how it was named - just like some people still refer to Mumbai as Bombay.
@@PHlophe We'll, Indians generally do not look like each other, India is a heterogeneous country with incredible diversity, and scientifically speaking, so it's the second most genetically diverse region after the continent of Africa
And also she looks so beautiful in saree and done a great job proud to be an Indian 😍😍😘🇮🇳
Even Sarees can't escape the 80s

Good Attempt.. but it should be more ethnic . she has missed major south contribution in keeping the tradition going well even when the Indians are more inclined towards western outfits..
For south, add flowers in the hair
2000
It was made in memory of Bina Kannan. She is owner of sheemati textile shop.she is a south Indian, she is from kerala. This is not North indian. This is general Indian culture. Bharatanatyam silk sarees are south indian things
She is so beautiful...I personally love to wear saree..As in our culture we used to wear saree after marriages compalsary in most of areas..
1990's look is Madhuri Dixit 😂😂
Cigdem Cinar totally true!!!

2010 is so beautiful I would ladly wear it on my graduation 😍 Too bad I didn't know about this video earlier... Now I'm in university :/ :(
You can wear one to your Uni graduation! (if thats a thing...)
how ironic indian girls would love to wear gowns on their grad day....well atleast my school has gown for prom and saree for another day....but i swear saree looks good on EVERY body type....it doesn't matter if you're fat or skinny or recently gained weight....a good saree never betrays XD
I have 2 sarees from Sri Lanka :) they're so beautiful
I love the simplicity and the freshness of the 1970s spree!
wow, really saree is the most elegant, beautiful and sexy thing to wear for females.
It sucks
This is why.. Saree is my favourite dress.. Actually i love wearing it 😍😍 makes a lady perfect
Model is confident and awesome, 1960 and 2000 was best in performance and style 👌 enjoyed whole video 😀
Saree is the best traditional dress u can ever saw and wear 😍😍😍😍

It's kardelen's choice he can love Indian and both Pakistani video you should chill
Kardelen Parlak it's bcuz it was too cleavage?
Absolutely fantastic. I was trying to select the decade with the best overall style - but I just couldn't do it - because for each decade there was, behind the saree, the same absolutely amazing model. Still I think decade 1910 was beautiful simplicity, 1920 was unencumbered elegance, 1930 was pure charm, 1940 was adorable innocence, 1950 was complete sophistication, 1960 was perfect cuteness, 1970 was serene sweetness, 1980 was totally sensuous, 1990 was beautifully fun-loving, 2000 was visually superb, and 2010 was splendidly sexy. Hai Rabba - they are all totally magnificent. I want to marry 1920, no 1940, no 1980, no 1990 - just give me any one of them. Okay, it's time to stop dreaming, I guess. Live long and always prosper amazingly beautiful model.
The lady is gorgeous...
The saree was well presented each decade...it implies how rich indian culture is...
Im totally preocupied by india's "about"..
I wish i could wear saree one day...im.dying to wear one...😊
My mom actually as 90s fashion as shown in the video. She even have a picture of it. She was in her early 20s during this time
If only women knew in the 2000's you could look so beautiful in a saree...2000's western fashion sucks. 1980's too... Loved it! One more beautiful than the other!
That model was so beautiful.. she slayed every saree! 😃
Thats very true, each region and people group wear them different because their culture is different from each other....this video is just showing it in a broad opinion
This made me proud of my culture❤️🇮🇳
This made me wish I were Indian. Maybe I need to find an Indian man. 😂
Sierra Stone you can be an Indian in next life as we believe in reincarnation too😂😂
Love from India may your wish full fill
I wish that your wish to fulfill as soon as possible
For wearing saree you need not marry an indian man still your welcome
LOve from india
I never liked sarees much since it’s too much of draping but still m loving it , reminds me that my nani takes lesser time to wear one by the time I get dressed in simple 👖 top n stills carries it so gracefully
70s was my favorite! Great video :)
Yaa simple and beautiful
70s and 80s are absolutely gorgeous and her smile in the 90s is adorable😄😄
wow, I never knew that there were so many sarees through the ages, love this video, the dances are stunning and the model is gorgeous!
Amen. The awesome sari. Has not changed
completely, thank God. Pray the beautiful sari never
change completely.
2:57 60s one is best...
Saree style of Asha Parekh, Mumtaz, Sharmila Tagore made 60s remembered ..
Your favourite??
the sarees they used are soo beautiful!!
India and Hindus can absorb anything 😇🙏🏼🚩
The 50's look is soooo perfect!
Beautiful looks, when women wear Sarees & a sense of love & affection develops in children to see their mother wearing Saree, respect increases at home & out of home,
The beautiful legacy of Indian women! 💖
The 2010 one, gorgeous! Purple is my all time favorite color, so I absolutely love that one.
Am I the only one amazed how it's all tied back and not flying over the place? How...? O.O
Thanks, mate :)
pins, lots of safety pins XD
Safety pin
Actually we Indians wear it in such a way that it will never unravel even in heavy club dancing...(trust me,I have tried that. ;) )
Its just the way it is tucked and wrapped around the body making pleats.
MissGroves ...u wud be surprised to know that sarees hv 1 atmost 3 pins to hold it in place....not counting the decorative ones tho as they are not needed and only act as brooch.
I liked the 1910 style the most.. The most beautiful and elegant one❤
Very nice and informative collection... after watching this I like the older saree trends more than modern ones :)
I love India, but I so femenist and non traditional soo hahaha but I love all about Indian or south asia, i love the 60's, 70's and 2010's

Feminism and tradition goes hand in hand in our country. the women scientists who sent mars orbit to space and launched 104 satellites at one go were women in sarees, big bindis, excellent wife and mothers. 😊🙏
KarasunoCrows You are right, feminism and womanhood should go hand in hand.
she looked best in 2010 ...wow luved her killer smile
it is just amazing how one 6 yard fabric can make some look simple, sexy, elegant, charming and sober at the same time
the model was stunning 💕
The model is so charming and fun, and seems to be having a great time.
With enough pins, I found wearing a Saree is not as difficult as I thought it would be. My husband is from Uttar Pradesh and my in-laws still reside in India.
2000s are Tamilan style . Which I adore and love 💕
The draping for 1940's is gorgeous
this is so amazing because you can even see how the movement and the music is changing together with sarees!
I am from Karachi, Pakistan.my mother used to wear sarees a lot but now she wear saree occasionally
@Varoon lol saree don't have anything to do with Hinduism Bangladesh is 90% Muslim but Bangla women wear sarees very often and my mom still loves sarees but she have expensive sarees so she don't wanna ruin them by wearing in home and after Iranian revolution Shia Muslim women of Pakistan started following Iranian fashion just like many Indian girls follow Western culture like pant shirts
@@AllTimeEnt saree is an important part of bengali culture doesn't matter hindu Or muslim bengalis.
But for your information saree has everything to do with Hinduism because it was originated during the ancient times when all of the Indian subcontinent was hindu, and if that isn't enough of an argument to you than all of *our godesses have been depicted in sarees* , I don't mean to say that subcontinent Muslims can't wear it, it's yalls culture too, but it's an important symbolism/garment in our religion and so don't say that it's nothing to do with Hinduism.
Good to hear your mother likes sarees btw, Thank you very much Namaste khamma ghani bye.
I like 1960 the most
the model was soo pretty...
Without even watching...I hit the like... because India Dil me basta h ❤️
I love the model she did amazing portrayal of sarees
This woman can pull off cultured, feminine, girlish, sexy, fun and traditional! She's so gorgeous!
I smiled the whole time sooo beautiful☺
I don't know why I have the smile through out the video....may be the beauty of the saree ...and the grace it's bringing to the model...
Why is nobody talking about the 1950's look?!
She carried of all the types of saree and danced on tye songs so gracefully
Well Done, One should appreciate the efforts, hard work , team work in making this video.
1960s is amazing.. loved it

I like 2000s it similar to traditional Telugu wedding saree
Indians are the most fashionable people in my opinion.
