- We asked visitors to our Mary, Queen of Scots exhibition what they thought about the famous monarch, her life and the choices she made.
Mary, Queen of Scots was on at National Museum of Scotland from 28 June until 17 November 2013.

I am a German lady.
Mary was innocent in Babington plot. Elizabeth imprisoned her for half her life and then brutally executed her. Never even met her even once, and Mary came to England for family support, for help to win back her Scottish throne. She never imagined Elizabeth would kill her. May her soul rest in peace.
No she wasn’t. And hm I wonder why Elizabeth imprisoned her? Maybe because Mary wouldn’t shut up about being the rightful queen of England? Also Mary could’ve went anywhere else but she chose Elizabeth.

Really? Because the vast swathe of the citizens of both countries would have dreaded her as Queen. The country was Protestant and the tyranny and bloodshed of a catholic Queen of England was a dire warning to people both side of the border of what happens.... put it this way, she would never have won an election...
@@leylarose6599 you can't judge someone for their background,and you can't really say Hendry VIII influenced her/has the same "silver tongue".She'd been locked up away from her mother all her life,and tried to brig the country back in order so that it wouldn't turn to chaos,they both where amazing queens in my oppinion but you can't just say Elizabeth was "evil",she'd been treated wrong from the start yet she still managed to keep the country well managed
@@en-bn1vn did you even study her reign? She forced people to become protestant and persecutred catholics. Thats one of the reasons whyt he gun powder plot started. Catholic priests had to go into hiding and she killed many catholic nobles and murdered many priests and children. Actually look her reign up, thers so much protestant propoganda but it was only a golden age for the rich and protestant. She killed her own cousin due to fear and jealousy and other cousins because they had claims to the crown. She was crafty, a master liar which made her a good politician and murdered when it suited her. The only true and noble queen was Mary Queen of Scotland who was ahead of her time and tolerated both faiths. Elizabeth was also NOT a virgin, she had a long affair with dudley and possibly secret children. She succeeded due to lies, thievery, murder and a loyal council that was hell bent on making England protestant.
Jealousy is a curse ...Her English cousin destroyed her for nothing..Mary was loyal and kept her word..
Well the evidence was that she was plotting against Elizabeth. Elizabeth was reluctant to have her executed.

@@laineymckenzie660 absolutely not. I'm no fan of English royalty either . They were all killers. The hanging drawing and quartering was used to create terror . I just don't like sanitizing Mary either.
I read a bit about her execution and it kinda seemed like she was looking forward to it
It was probably sort of like a relief or release after being imprisoned for so many years
She even made jokes on the scaffold about how she never imagined undressing in front of an audience
She must’ve been a bit scared, sure (I mean who wouldn’t be if they knew they were gonna be beheaded) but I think at the end of the day, she was looking forward to it

Bothwell totally changed the direction of Mary’s life with a very devious plan
which worked perfectly but Mary also made some really wrong moves which
ultimately determined her very sad life.
In truth there was no chance of Mary ever achieving her goal and with hindsight of course
should have never left France.

Not really,they both had to look out for their countries.
And in the end Mary lost to Elizabeth,they both where golden queens doing everything in their power for their countries.Its pretty unfortunate about how they passed away

If you look at her predecessors, Elizabeth was fairly tolerant in religious views and she didn’t even really want to execute Mary- after she signed the warrant she changed her mind and tried to take it back, but it was too late. I’m sure the pressures she faced had something to do with it

You can't just sign the death warrant of your own cousin and than change your mind and of course it was just a coincidence that it was too late. Actually in my opinion it wasn't Elizabeth's decision to make, because Mary was not her subject, she had no right to decide when to kill her. Let's just admit that Mary was too powerful WOMAN, she was queen of Scotland since she was six days old, queen of France (for only a year but still a queen) and rightful queen of England, and they couldn't let women to take so much under her control.
@@mariamiimedaishvili2860 I never said that Mary wasn’t a powerful woman. Because Mary also had a legitimate claim to the throne, it would make her Liz’s opponent. The religious feud made things worse and blew things out of proportion, which is in my opinion. I have nothing against Mary, I’m simply basing my reasoning on what I’ve learned

As a Catholic Queen in an increasingly hostile Protestant Scotland, I think Mary's reign was doomed from the start coupled by the fact that she made a lot of wrong moves that see her reign ended in disaster.
