  • The Mary, Queen of Scots Casket is one of Scotland’s most cherished treasures, thanks to its long-standing association with the controversial queen. Take a closer look at this extremely rare work of early French silver and its associations with Mary, Queen of Scots presented by Dr Anna Groundwater, Principal Curator of Renaissance and Early Modern History.
There are no other comparably fine French caskets known to exist from this period, making the Mary, Queen of Scots Casket particularly rare. It is likely that the belief in its association with Mary has kept it preserved for the past 450 years.

The casket is beautiful and a remarkable treasure. Sadly Mary made two mistakes which led to her downfall - firstly, as was pointed out, she married Lord Bothwell too quickly after Darley's murder. Secondly, after she was deposed, she had the chance to flee to France. She instead fled to England, hoping Elizabeth would help her. She should have been aware that as Mary was a Catholic Elizabeth would not have helped her. Had she fled to France, she may have lost her throne but would have retained her freedom and her life.

    Wonderful 🤗
I have a little wooden painted box that might have belong to her.
It has the decoration of fine landscape paintings and motives and colour on the corners as the ceiling of huntingtower castle. 🤔

Why was her prayer book that she had before her death was auctioned at Christie's that no one had the right to do?

The casket is beautiful , Mary wasn't a great and majestic Queen, she was easily misguided, and if her head had ruled her heart she may have kept it and her throne

Surprised you are wearing gloves as wearing silver jewelery helps keep it from tarnishing.
