at first I was, damn this guy plays slipknot very close to their sound, and only on 3rd min I realized that its a Mick himself
really ???
A Mick like an Irishman?
@@ddechurcha Mick like a 7
Seriously?
Right it’s not like it says Mick Thomson from Slipknot on the title
The Left Behind riff is really unique in the world of metal. One those riffs everyone wishes they'd have thought up.
My favorite Slipknot song
I first heard that song in 8th grade, still scares me
It's on of the riffs I always play when I pick up my guitar, it's been stuck living in my head since the video first started airing on Kerrang and Scuzz way back when
Who else is sitting here with a beer listening to Mick jam some riffs? Fuck that guitar sounds incredible I never want this video to end! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
I think you mean, listening to BAGUL from Sinister.
Mick playing the Beavis and Butthead theme song was beautiful
dude for real
Mick getting into running really helped him thin out. Dude's lean and mean
He also cut out alcohol completely too according to his wife. You don’t realize how much weight you have that’s caused by alcohol if you drink a lot until you cut it out completely.
Also... He continues to kidnap and brainwash kids as BAGUL.
He’s not near as menacing though….just sayN
@@STANGm06deGT
Yet, Mick Thomson IS Bagul from Sinister.
Diet plays the major role there
0:33 That twang punch is sick
It’s a great tone because it works in the mix with the band, sounds SIC
Exactly 💯
Bedroom guitarists have no concept of that
Ahh well done
Precisely. I read some complaints about the tone, but you gotta realize Slipknot is a huge band with a lot of sounds. You need something to cut through the mix.
I’m just here to watch this dude play. It’s awesome.
Sounds like a full scoop of preworkout without water
You eat the preworkout as it's meant to be: pure and raw 😂😅
I think Mick is one of the best guitarists ever ❤
Is this a joke? In the video, he has a beginner level of play
@stmnz Have u seen him do sweeps and other crazy shit? He's crazy on the guitar. He was also a guitar teacher and knows full theory.
He just writes what Slipknot needs. He's a humble guy, both him and Jim. But they legit can play better than what they write for Slipknot.
Like both Mick and Jim say. They write for the song, not themselves.
Exactly , MIck have an awsome level, style of music for slipknot is not shredding, but Mick shredd very well
@@stmnz what the actual fuck
Not the best guitarrist ever but its a great one.
If and when you mature as a musician you will see slipknot for what they actually are. Garbage. I lost interest in them pretty early on, after subliminal verses.
This guy played with SD active passives, EMG Actives, now Fishman. Does not matter, i hear the same articulation and guitar setup as on record. Beast, old school one take guy!
Can’t deny dudes always at the top of his tone game whenever you see him
So hilarious that Mick's playing the Beavis and Butt-Head theme. He's a class act.
its also ACDC riff btw
Huh huh huh. That was cool, I bet he like….didn’t know what to play because the director told him to play a riff that sucked. 😆😆😆
@@dave1986R Yeah! H-hm, hee! And I bet like, he just said... "I PLAY WHAT I WANT, NUMBNUTS!" Hehehm-hee!
So stoked that he's with esp too now
Should of been there all along
Crazy to see him going from his Jackson and SD days to Fishman and ESP. Love to see an artist evolve
money doesnt smell
I had his Jackson signature it was horrible esp makes better guitars they weren’t bought out by some big company and got ruined
@@michaelgrahamwongacutemadnesswhat didn't you like about it ? I have his soloist and I love it
@@sweengeppetto1915 Same, I love mine. I have heard that Jackson had many CQ issues during many of the years they manufactured Mick's SL2. My input jack area has shoddy painting.
@@1HYB mine does too, and in the bridge cavity a little bit of paint miss also. But the guitar itself is perfect otherwise imo. I have the black one and would like to find a white one to go with it
Damn that clean tone!
Massive tone!
It’s called downturning and an overdrive pedal into a tube amp. Not rocket science, they’ve been doing it for 40+ years hahaha.
Nice! Killer tone!
The crunch is insane fr
It’s so spot on with the record 👏
These sound great!
Awesome
Just got a new ESP with open core Classics and I love those pick ups and the sustain is incredible, but I want something heavier for what I play. I might swap them out for these for something new. Phil McKnight does a great breakdown on these and they sound incredible. Great job.
Awesome, Great, I love Mick Thomson's Fishman Fluence Pick Up set.
Um espetáculo, guitarrista preferido
Sweet demo video, I just wish it showed footage of him talking about them.
I have a guitar fitted with his signature Blackouts and those are awesome, but these just have so much more versatility. Plus the #3 single coil voice on the neck pickup just encompasses it all. This set really is the best of pretty much everything that a guitar pickup has to offer.
There is another video with Mick talking about the pick ups with Larry.
4:08
Beavis and Butt-Head!! As if I needed any other reason to love Mick Thomson.
Really nice to see mike playing clean ^^
Sounds massive 🤘🤘
That guitar looks awesome af. ESP never miss and Mick looks great, well done. Can't wait to see the next steps and hopefully a new signature LTD for us regular folk haha
Fishman's are excellent. I use them on my Ken Susi signature. Looking forward to putting a set on my Bass.
Sounds killer! Nails Mick's tone!
It is Mick
Looking forward to seeing these in some signature LTDs!
Sounds good.
I like the sound of it 👌
Monster 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Voice 2 on the bridge sounds great
Haven't tried any of Micks guitars or pickups but I got a dv77 paired up with a v30 in a 2x12 evh cab with the older evh 50 watt 6l6 version and those speakers are brutal sounding. Really dig that dv77. Wanna try it out with some other speaker combos at some point. Greenback or cream back with the dv77 would be cool to hear.
I have the same mix but in a 4x12 recto slant cab! They sound killer together!
@@stephenoddy5362 hell yeah I want one of those mesa 4x12 cabs. Bet that is a beast.
Could have sworn I saw an interview video earlier today.......now it's gone. So sad I was at work and couldn't hear it
It's back up
It is a bit mushy, yes, but despite the downtuning, the pickups sound great. Kudos to Mick and Fishman
Im happy he has a signature set that he loves. For me the tone in this video is really mushy and fizzy.. which is typically not a fishman type sound. I'm wondering if that's due to the amp used or possibly low tuning?
My hero.
Prepare yourself for the pile of metal elitists that are gonna flood this comment section with shit talking and complaints.
We already complained, we got our comments deleted.
@@TheSpineSplitter1990Yeah. They deleted my comment about his amp
@@TheSpineSplitter1990 good
@@7_dropademon It was more of opinions about the pickup, which every company should hear out but I guess today free speech is seen as hate.
My comment got deleted again
4:06 average guitar reviews be like
That's the Beavis and Butthead theme. Lol
Did the active voicing gain any low end heft/resonance compared to the regular Modern model?
Last riff sounds like GNR - Don't Cry 😆
he played the sickest Beavis and butthead theme I've ever heard haha
Seeing Mick after a long time and I'm surprised to see he's lost some weight man.
i wonder if his new signature model guitar will have as thin a neck as his soloist did. dude knows exactly how a guitar should be in his own style. kirk hammett made want an esp but man i wan one really bad now. i need a black guitar.
Sic
so glad to see this man playing good riffs
bet the sale-rates of these will get up there after this xP
so glad he played left behind
Well. We’ve had him root play new songs without us knowing they’re new songs on the fender guitar thing. I wonder if he’s dropped any here?
После Фреда решил зайти...послушать хлебные крошки :D :D :D
mick looks like a new man!
It sounds mushy but at the same time i can hear what hes playing and understand it. Especially the riffs straight to the point
Sounds great, cant really understand the complaints
What song did he play on the clean tone at the end?
I think its the beginning of the chorus to Don't Cry by Guns N Roses
Bridge voice 1 is killer
Probably a noob question but how do you level string volume without pole-pieces to adjust?
I just moved up to 12-54's from a set of 10's and had to spend an hour levelling them out
I have grestch bt-2's (Default in the original G2622t streamliner) for some reason with the pickups perfectly level, my 2nd string is louder than my 6th, while the 1st is quieter so it took alot of tweaking with the pole pieces and PU angle to get it right
How would you get around that using these style pickup's?
That's easy! Just crank the gain to 11 so it does not really matter anymore
@@janmokracki lmao actually
Me suena todo igual 😊
Bridge - Voice 2 for the win
Would be great to see him play seven strings
2:25 what song is that right there?
For me it sound more similar to EMG81. We back to the 80s 🙂
This sounds nothing like a EMG 81
This sounds nothing like an EMG 81. The Jim Root set is closer as it is based off the 81/60 combo, but better, and hotter. These are a different beast.
what people don't realise about pickups is they are all the same, high output then it's just EQ, so grab an EQ peddle and you can have any sound you want. Run it pre amp guitar direct in to it. It's mad people buy 'signature' pick ups, when the signature pick ups for all metal are EMG 81 😂
Sd blackout, fluence modern...they are similar to emg81...they are copies
damn i thought this is just the host... it's actually mick!
God
What guitar?
Voice 1 is ok, but voice 2... sorry not what i expected! We all like Mick tone, and personally me thought it will be very tight sound, what do you think?
song at 2:30?
Its so compressed it all sounds the same!!! I guess it would be a feel thing. And yes ive heard and played through Fishman live. The only Fishman i like are the greg koch set. That's another point modern rock has so much,"pre-amp " gain. That everyone sounds the same. I would like to see Fishman do a Leslie West type set or cream or hendrix
😂 it’s ok to not like something
It sounds really thin and uninteresting to me. I love mic and his playing though.
Yeah it’s modern rock and all the people that enjoy it that have it wrong, not you
3:14 what song Mick is playng here?
It sounds like Vermillion
@@g5boulleauyes
Can we get a neural DSP Mick Thomson signature pls @NeuralDSP
I didn't know Bagul made a signature pickup set...
That red guitar sounds like shit file 13 that pos the sparkle one sounded good tho
ibanez + emg here
The tone of that amp is to guitar what saint angers snare is to drums.
So I wasn't the only one.
Mick is now thin, that's not normal.
Who’s this fit dude? What happened to fat Mick?
The pickups sound fucking great btw
on voice 1 When you say his signature pickup are we talking his EMTY or is this a whole new curve
4:33
does anyone hear a difference between voices? it looks like some has more lows, that's all
4:22 I meant lol
Mick and Jim are the only two from Slipknot that I respect
Охренеть!) Как же он крут даже без маски!
Blackouts, Fishmans, EMGs, Dimarzios… all these sound the same when it’s high gain af and compressed and then placed in a mix.
Companies love to sell the same thing over and over tho😂
IS THAT THE GREAT GREAT GREAT MICK THOMSON IN THERE? 😮😮😮you sure they're not replacing him with another guy?
I like my SD Black Winters.
Wonder how much riff writing is Micks, and how much is Jim’s?
Not gonna lie I tend to think most was Jim for a long time, but Jim seems to be more in the spotlight
I think it really depends on what era of the band we’re talking about. Vol. 3 and onward saw increasing input from Jim, especially with TGC in 2014, and I think it largely stems from the different direction the band took after Iowa that led to both of them to have more creative leeway when writing arrangements.
@@WhiskeylovurI would tend to agree. Mick has been more involved with death metal previously and I think you hear that in the earlier albums. Jim’s also had a slightly more accessible presence off stage so he gets more credit. There are a few of technical mick interviews out there and he’s just so knowledgeable.
Mick composed and wrote most of the rhythm and songs, Jim gets the spotlight for sure
Jim is the main writer after Joey and Paul were gone.
@@PhntmShdwpaul and joey were the main writers
By itself the tone is... Not the best, but in the SlipKnot mix it will be awesome
Sick guitar though. Not huge on Micks tone
Dang. I wish they weren’t plain looking. They look like standard moderns. No signature touch. At least make the stripe colored. Or a number 7 etched on the pickup would have been nice.
Fax
Mick looks like he shedded some massive skin
When your fret's buzzing even comes through your amp's clean channel, it's time to adjust your string hight. 😂
You can hear that? You got a good ear
...... Bruh.... It's obvious @@MWBowen403
It's super clear in the clean sections. Tuning to drop b/a on a 25.5" will do that
@@natec4339 but it can be adjusted better in B, I speak from experience.
@@natec4339agreed. It’s crazy how many bands play in A on 6’s too. I know that sucks on that scale length. Aborted, bloodbath, Nile, I Am, Frozen Soul to name a few.
ミック痩せててびっくりした
He played the Beavis and Butthead theme!
Seeing these riffs without the harsh metal face and piercing eyes is like seeing Slipknot screams come out of Corey's face instead of a mask. It's just weird. Like... yeah, that's Mick, but not the Mick I'm used to seeing
hmh maybe this is his signature esp too?
I personally doubt it. The axes he's been using since last year have all been either ESP Originals or USA Shop guitars, with a handful of exceptions. There was a photo his wife posted last year of what looked like some kind of custom shop guitar with a recessed TOM style bridge that had fine tuners. I'm unsure if this was a prototype or just a one-off for him to try something new. It's possible it's not even an ESP but the other guitar headstock in the background leads me to believe otherwise. My guess is whatever Mick and ESP are cooking won't be revealed until much later this year or 2025.
@@Whiskeylovur yeah i think his wife posted the f models? personally i think those fit him best as a player, seeing as they're more metal oriented than the regular horizon or mirage
@@alzheimerr Its so funny how she's been our window into his relationship with ESP. I'd kill for a signature Arrow
@@Whiskeylovur LMAO true. and yeah a sig arrow would be awesome
Am I nuts or this guy’s half the size he used to be
