How many people can say they have a genuine friend like Kevin Smith who cares, has your back and will go through stuff to help and lift you up. As an actor, he still has so much untapped potential.
I met him last year. I watched his comedy show and he came out and insisted on meeting everyone. He’s so kind.. been through a lot. But you can tell he’s incredibly strong. 💗
Forever fan. Met Jason at a con and I could tell he was pulled from a ditch to make that commitment, I genuinely was moved to just say "I love you, man" gave him a hug and walked away praying for him. Kudos to sobriety and family.
For all that he's extremely likable. Clerks wouldn't have been nearly the same without Jason and Smith's characters to round out that great cast. The fact he's risen above being born behind the 8-ball from the beginning shows he's got a lot more to his personality than just a simple stoner and he's an inspiration for everybody that seems ordinary at first, but truly isn't ordinary.
FBI 😹 good one! I used to sing that out in public . You’d be surprised how many people will join in who know all the lyrics also. Jungle love is also one of my go to karaoke songs. Everyone goes “the mother f-in Times!” But Jay’s version is much better.
technicly he doesnt mean jay, but the guys who plays jay. Why they didn't name this vid "The truth about Jason Mewes (Jay from Jay and silent Bob)" or something is beyond me. This title (The guy) sounds a bit disrespectful for a guy who has gone through so much.
Disrespectful as the title is I will say like all of his fans, I’m thrilled for the man for battle his addiction and coming out a better man. Can only hope he can keep staying healthy.
I like to think it's a give and take. Yes Jay struggled with addiction and Kevin helped him and did all he could for him. Kevin almost died from a fuckin widow maker, and Jay was there to help him recover. True friends don't just take they give, too.
I'm so fucking glad that Jay and Kevin made the choice to stay with us longer. They both very much almost died and it was a result of decisions they made about their lifestyles. Not to try to belittle substance abuse or weight issues, both are psychologically hard to deal with. But it would have been devastating to lose either or even both of them. They've had such a profound impact on my generation and Chasing Amy really helped me to cope with understanding my own bisexuality and the way that other people viewed it or how they were threatened by it or made it about themselves. It took it from me taking on other people's misconceptions and judgements about it and it being my own baggage but it was never really mine to begin with. And that opened a whole other door into learning that other people will project their judgements or problems on to you and that it doesn't validate or justify that action. Another person will try to make you feel responsible for their actions or choices and try to manipulate you with that, make you feel like you are6good enough or are lesser and deserve to be treated that way. But that's their whole gimmick and has relatively nothing to do with you. They would do it to anybody but you were just the closest person at the time. These guys have essentially guided my journey from adolescence to womanhood and I found comradeship in the the fandom that has been created by two knuckleheads from Jersey and I fucking love it.
After watching this video you get the sense though this is about Jason Mewes this video also highlights the fact that Kevin Smith is one of the nicest guys in Hollywood. In an industry where very few people would stay that loyal to a guy who tested their friendship to its very limit, Kevin Smith stuck by his friend and helped him get his life back together, multiple times. That’s friendship and loyalty.

What alot of people dont realize is most addicts use to self medicate, most of us have serious mental health issues and are only trying to level ourselves out. Im the Son of 2 Heroin addicts and was born addicted to Heroin, its just in my genes to be an addict, that and watching my parents go tnrough Heroin addction as a child caused me to end up having serious issues, having the Police raid our home, living in dope houses with no power or water for sometimes months, this is what alot of us go through and its the reason I ended up using.Youd think it would make me never want to use drugs but its just the opposite, you are what your taught to be.This is why Sucessful parents usually have sucessful children,we are what we come from. Just be happy your not an addict and try and be as helpful as you can, when your a Heroin addict you get deathly sick when you dont use, even if its for just a day,you get sick, withdrawal is like having the worst flu, mixed with Food poinioning but no matter what you take you cant sleep,so you jist gotta lay there and suffer,Just be kind to Junkies, trust me were hard enough on ourselves.
I always love hearing when great actors want to start their own passion project and direct a movie they really are excited about, and they don't get a huge budget cause big companies don't care about the indie guy making great stuff they just want a bankable name with lots explosions, *but* they have so many great friends and actors that are like *fuck yeah, I'm in*! They believe in it because the director believes in it and they rally and say fuck the budget I'm all in, don't worry about paying me right now. Because it isn't about the money it's about giving a hand and lifting up another person to see their dream come to life. I get so jazzed about that stuff and those are the kind of movies I want to see the most.
Ay man, God bless this kid! The dude always had me in stitches with laughter in whatever I saw him in. You can do it Jay! Stay clean, stay safe my brother. You deserve better man!
These are just real people that made some funny movies. Love em. Thanks Jason, thanks Kevin. You guys are great and I couldn’t imagine my life without Jay and Silent Bob movies
He is high as fuck! As a 20 year ex dope fiend he is in a complete relapse during that interview. It's sadly ironic. I am amazed that the non drug user doesn't see it but then you don't know what to look for. It is everywhere.
I think it's maybe weed cause I heard (doesn't make it true I know) Kevin is or was testing him at random. I hope he's not using again. I fought with opiates for 15 years after blowing my back up snowboarding. 3 surgeries, 264k invested in my back and feel like I only lost 10 years and ended up with a needle in my arm after the government stepped in and scared even good honest Dr.s into leaving people high and dry. I am clean now proudly and honestly don't miss opiates one bit. I imagine if they actually made me feel like they did at the beginning I would but living a pathetic existence just to not be sick is no way to live. Oh and I have my girlfriend who gave me the ultimatum her or heroine, I chose her she gave me 2 months to figure it out. Stepped down until I was one small shot a day and I knew withdrawal was not going to be trainspotting bad, quit went through a rough 2 weeks but not horrible like I'd experienced before. 10 months sober, working and living. I did pick up a new addiction though it's a good one. I work on my house whenever I get the chance and spend pretty much every spare dime on it. I'm happy, she's happy and we're going to see a return on this addiction... someday. maybe. Sorry for the tangent but I hope someone reads this and knows it is possible without methadone or suboxone/subutex which is worse than the stuff that got you on those "maintenance drugs" i.m.o. find something more important than heroine and it's easier than you think. Just gotta find it, that's the hardest part. Cheers and good luck.
I once met J at a gas station when I was a teenager in Nashville, TN. He pulled in the station with a damaged BMW, obviously had hit something, there was a few inches of snow and ice. Me and a couple friends assisted him in getting the hood to shut. Afterwards he asked if we had any pills, we did not. We had some doo doo weed and were too ashamed to share. Still one of the strangest and coolest events in my life. Thanks J for being you! I love your movies and wish you the best for your sober years!
Jason really seems like a good person. His character and dialogue encapsulates that one guy in every town that curses, is loud, and everyone knows yet the whole town secretly admires…
jay came out about all this way before the media did. so this should be titled the story he already told everyone but now with a disembodied voice narrating
He’s talking about being sober in the interview but the way he’s fidgeting & rocking back & forth tells me he’s on something! Addiction sucks, once it sinks it’s teeth in your fighting to stay away for the rest of your life! 😔 .
Jay (Jason Mewes) is an Icon. Kevin knew that before he cast him in Clerks. Kevin knew he was a hidden gem the world needed to see and he was right. Jay is mostly himself in front of a camera not a 'actor' pretending to be somebody else. Actors are people who try to act like Jason Mewes but could never do it. Jason is a Class Act and would be epic to hang out with yesterday or today. Stay strong Jay!
Yea unfortunately he seems like hes on opiates (hopefully methadone or suboxone) during his interview. His voice sounds extremely smacked out and he closes his eyes for long periods of time while he struggles to tell his story. I hope for his sake that he is TRULY doing well because it is extremely easy to relapse and accidentally overdose, leading to a heartbreaking loss for everyone.
I liked this video. As an addict, I feel it’s good for people like Jason to come out and share their experiences of strength and hope with others, addicts and non-addicts alike, as it helps to show fellow addicts still struggling that they can change. And it shows non-addicts that addicts do successfully find sobriety and redemption if they’re given a roadmap for how and they are willing to be accountable to themselves and others, as well as being honest with themselves and others.
That's actually normal for long time hard drug abusers. It's likely just permanent neurological/nerve damage. Doesn't necessarily mean he's not sober. He was pretty fluent and enunciated well enough. I don't think he's high here.
It's not uncommon for former opiate addicts tend to be like that for a while. John Frusciante from Red Hot Chili Peppers seemed quite incoherent in the late 90s after he rejoined the band and quit drugs, but 20 years down the line he's seems fine. And is quite healthy too.
@@CaliforniaCarpenter7 sounds like you have no idea what you're talking about. Have you ever f'real known anyone to be on meth? Guarantee he's sober , maybe just a fidgety guy.
YOOO JAY!!! Glad you're doing well. I caught you on a fortnite stream. Told you how you helped inspire me to get clean too. I have over 5 years clean, and just stopping by to say thank you again. Glad you saw my message on your stream....Don't forget how your story has helped thousands. SNOOCHIE BOOCHIES!
Yep I have to agree, also his other recent interviews, talking about being clean with sweaty face from opiate, definitely on some stimulant too with shifty eyes and body movements, very not sober. Also its time to quit cigarettes forever when your lungs sound like that same with kevin smith.
I met this guy once, I was in Staples in a shirt and tie and he thought I worked there and asked me about some software. Nice as could be, super polite and respectful.
Maybe he is on suboxone or methadone. But clearly he is on something and over taking it. I’m all for harm reduction so maybe keeping the needle out of his arm is best he can do right now. I wish him well.
@@colleenhepler5837 subs have a ceiling effect. Cant get that way on them. Methadone maybe, if the clinic lets u take "carries". But, i didn't think clinics did that in the us
Shawn Buckles people can shoot up subs. And can take benzos on top of methadone that create a high stronger than heroin. So he can be in a medicated recovery and still abuse it. Or he is just plain high. No judgment. Recovery is a process and he is a person who has consistently battled this. He must practice some harm reduction because he is alive and functioning on tour. I wish him all the best and hope he successfully gets into long term sobriety.
@@vayvay_9284 I believe it was before he had his teeth fixed. He was very self conscious about it because it changed his whole look and sound. That's what he says anyways but who knows.
It’s crazy how this video was just recommended to me just days after I found a Kevin smith documentary from over 2 decades ago at a dollar store. In it, he’s doing speeches at university’s in 2002 and jay makes an appearance at one of them. It’s pretty obvious that Jason comes out half way through on stage and is high on something. You could see the disappointment in Kevin’s eyes while still trying to stay positive and keep the show going. Real piece of history right there it’s a dvd set called “Stan Lee & Kevin Smith save the world” if anyone can find the clips here to see it
Jason is actually a really cool guy. He streams on twitch and plays games and will talk to you and tell stories. This video seems to have a rather predetermined opinion about the guy. While not perfect, he is kind of under-rated and is rather friendly.

I'm a fan wishing him the best.
Look at them posting vids about him like I ain't been lusting after him since the 90s
Ay man, God bless this kid! The dude always had me in stitches with laughter in whatever I saw him in. You can do it Jay! Stay clean, stay safe my brother. You deserve better man!
the title makes him seem like hes not famous lol
Hes not...
These are just real people that made some funny movies. Love em. Thanks Jason, thanks Kevin. You guys are great and I couldn’t imagine my life without Jay and Silent Bob movies
Love ya Jason. Always. Stay cool and sober. Appreciate and respect your work and personal efforts.
Looks like he got a hold of opiates before this interview. Sucks!!! Hope he’s really OK.
Yah.. this is for sure another relapse. Seems like he has some sense though. He'll get through it.
He is high as fuck! As a 20 year ex dope fiend he is in a complete relapse during that interview. It's sadly ironic. I am amazed that the non drug user doesn't see it but then you don't know what to look for. It is everywhere.
Just said the same thing. He's closing his eyes waaay too long.
Cheers and good luck.
deathbecomesherm 999 If you fought opiates for 15 years, as I myself did too, then you know in your soul that he’s on more than weed. Come on now.
Love Jason Mewes! Hope he stays sober and away from drugs the rest of his life.
He's married with a child now, he has lots of reasons to stay sober.
0:58 "spent most of his childhood raised by ant aunt" my brain: "How on earth can an ant raise a child?... Oh AUNT. Haha."
Why didn't they just call the video "The Truth about Jason Mewes"? Duh.
Who's jason mewes? This is about a guy named jay?
Jason really seems like a good person. His character and dialogue encapsulates that one guy in every town that curses, is loud, and everyone knows yet the whole town secretly admires…
in the blue t shirt clips when hes explaining things he is either high or has been using
100%
Didn't you hear him say he's been sober for more than 2 years? A former junkie never lies!
TrumJalle , lol
He smokes tons of weed.
@@trumjalle3035 there are no former junkies only clean junkies..
Iconic duo!
Indeed
Smith was a true friend and bro, I'm glad he never gave up on Mewes, even when he was at his lowest.
wouldn’t really call this an “untold truth”
@Soon Forgot Yup their whole podcast was designed to keep Mewes clean by giving him something to focus on each week.
jay came out about all this way before the media did. so this should be titled the story he already told everyone but now with a disembodied voice narrating
Super happy to hear how well he's doing! Dogma is one of my favorite movies!
Jersey Girl?
Oh, that film no one's heard of 🤔
Good for him... I loved Jay and Silent Bob movies. I hope he keeps strong.
He’s talking about being sober in the interview but the way he’s fidgeting & rocking back & forth tells me he’s on something! Addiction sucks, once it sinks it’s teeth in your fighting to stay away for the rest of your life! 😔
.
Aww I love him. I watched the Kevin Smith special where he talked about Jay being on drugs and everything. I'm so glad to see Jay doing so well.
This video was an emotional rollercoaster
Jay (Jason Mewes) is an Icon. Kevin knew that before he cast him in Clerks. Kevin knew he was a hidden gem the world needed to see and he was right. Jay is mostly himself in front of a camera not a 'actor' pretending to be somebody else. Actors are people who try to act like Jason Mewes but could never do it. Jason is a Class Act and would be epic to hang out with yesterday or today. Stay strong Jay!
He looks stoned in his interview
Yea unfortunately he seems like hes on opiates (hopefully methadone or suboxone) during his interview. His voice sounds extremely smacked out and he closes his eyes for long periods of time while he struggles to tell his story. I hope for his sake that he is TRULY doing well because it is extremely easy to relapse and accidentally overdose, leading to a heartbreaking loss for everyone.
Yeah I agree he's on some kkiind of opiate for sure
He’s 100% on opiates or benzo’s in that interview. Fact!
Looks like he aged 20 years.
@Truth hurts; Lies heal LOL He looks like a stroke victim, like Gary Busey.
Kirt Garnett u ugly af
You can see the drugs in his face. It completely changed 🙉
That's cause he had all his teeth pulled
shinnox his nose changed also
Always wished I could have a friendship like Smith and Mewes.
Dude seems twitchy while he explains that he’s not on drugs
Was gonna say, looks like meth to me...
@@CaliforniaCarpenter7 agree
He looks smashed up in the interview with his hair down....his eyes are barely open.
He most definitely looked like he was on something.
Probably some pills, Dude can't even talk right. Slurring his word's probably some downers like Xanax or some shit.
Yep I have to agree, also his other recent interviews, talking about being clean with sweaty face from opiate, definitely on some stimulant too with shifty eyes and body movements, very not sober. Also its time to quit cigarettes forever when your lungs sound like that same with kevin smith.
@@LoneWolf-ux7bt definitely not xanax, looks more like amphetamines
I met this guy once, I was in Staples in a shirt and tie and he thought I worked there and asked me about some software. Nice as could be, super polite and respectful.
Addiction is a disease. Be well jay
No it's a choice
@@vayvay_9284 Then go shoot some heroin and try to stop
You da Bomb Mewes!! The example you set as a father is second to none!
Ummm.....why does Mewes seem like he's on opiates again in this interview?
Edit: he's closing his eyes waaaaay too long.
Yeah,he is on some form of opiate or benzo. The info claims he's been sober for 9 years, maybe he has a special treat for on screen interview nerves?
Shawn Buckles
After a long while of going to the clinic you can take Carry homes
I used to know a Jason Mewes that I went to high school with in Highlands NJ. Kinda reminds me of this guy.
Was it really that hard to put Jason Mewes in the title?
Best VA films:
1. Dogma
2. Clerks 2
3. Chasing Amy
4. J&SBSB
5. Clerks
6. Mallrats (although J&SB were best thing of it)
It's fun being high in the sobriety interview
I was thinking the same he sounded so fucked up and high as fuck
Real piece of history right there it’s a dvd set called “Stan Lee & Kevin Smith save the world” if anyone can find the clips here to see it
The truth? Since when has Jason mews not told his fans what’s going on in his life gtfoh
Jason is actually a really cool guy. He streams on twitch and plays games and will talk to you and tell stories. This video seems to have a rather predetermined opinion about the guy. While not perfect, he is kind of under-rated and is rather friendly.
Jason Mewes is one of the only celebrities Id love to meet because Im not worried about him being an asshole
Especially knowing he actively doesnt talk to his favourite celebrities at conventions because he also doesnt want them to be an asshole
He sounds like Steve-O
