  • Today on Beating EVERY PS2 Game, I beat game #64, Shin Megami Tensei 3 Nocturne. What a wonderful, crazy, dark, delightful game. I honestly mean it. I may not think the game is that difficult, but it was so good I'm now on a mission to play all of the other SMT games! Enjoy!

    the dificulty is proportional by how you endure dungeons and how you understand buffs and debuff works, the game is challenging (some bosses in tde are very BS) but its pretty okay most of the times

    • @PS2orDie
      @PS2orDie  2 месяца назад +2

      Yeah the more you’re able to understand the systems in place, the easier it is to exploit them. Although, you need to understand how to do that too, you could understand the press turn system all you want but you’ll have to get creative to make it work for you! Really the reason I say it’s not that hard is to hopefully convince someone who’s always been afraid to try the game since most people say it’s very very difficult. So yeah, there’s definitely some challenge here, but even a little advice can make it easier to play!

  • @Paws42
    @Paws42 12 дней назад +2

    Figured I'd put in some corrections/info you wouldn't necessarily know without diving deeper:
    Resistances (aka reduced damage) don't take away additional turn icons, the attack has to miss or deal no damage. And if the target either drains or repels the attack, the attacker loses all press turns
    The "acting wildly" thing is determined by which Magatama you have equipped. Each have a pool of effects it can give you
    During a full moon, you generally can't recruit demons, but the demon races that normally don't understand you (Haunt, Foul, and Ooze) can be spoken to then. It also allows you to perform a sacrificial fusion where after you selct your first two demons, you can out in a third and have that demon's exp carried over to the fused demon. This normally doesn't change what demon you're making, but there are a few "secret" combinations that require you to fuse and sacrifice specific demons.
    The moon phase also determines the odds of finding the rare item in treasure chests, full moon means you're guaranteed to find the good item otherwise there's a chance you'll just find a Life Stone.
    Lastly, the each moon phase slightly changes the Elementals and Mitama sold at the gem store (he might sell one that's higher level and with additional skills)
    Figured I'd also mention you create your own elementals and mitama. Two demons of the same race/lineage creates an elemental, and two elementals create a mitama

    So glad I was informed of this channel 😅 I'm gonna need to get back to SMT 3 HD (PS4) and chip away at that Platinum after I wrap up the just released SMT 5 Vengeance on PS5 (so good now that it isn't stuck on the Stinky Switch 😂 4k and ESPECIALLY 60fps does the game a world of good 👌)
    CAN'T WAIT for you to do Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2, Devil Summoner Raidou 1 & 2 and definitely Persona 4 (just saw that you've already done Persona 3 FES so I'll check that vid out after this one) these are easily 6 of the BEST games ever made on the PS2, right up there with Sony's own 1st Party Output during that Generation.

      If you haven't already (and have access) I'd highly recommend grabbing SMT 4 on the 3DS, I personally think it's their overall best SMT Game in terms of all the aspects combined (Story/Characters/Music/Lore etc.) and these days I'd even say I'd rank it above any of the Persona games too (got my start like a lot of people with the Persona games, P3 back on the PS2 to be exact)
      Assuming you're in the US (going off your voice/accent 😅) you can grab a Physical Copy and play it, the 3DS is Region Locked unfortunately and the game only ever released Digitally on the eShop here in Australia and the rest of the PAL Regions (though it was always CHEAP as hell, it was also released like 2 Years later here for whatever reason) which means it is now lost to time since Nintendo shut the 3DS/Wii U eShop down a couple months back... Thankfully I still have my New 3DS XL and the game/DLCs downloaded, even imported a US Physical copy to add to my shelf/collection cause I love the game so much 👌

    Ose is actually supposed to be a leopard. I think people see him as a cheetah because of his kinda lean scrawny build. The model in this game also has the wrong head shape and his fur spots aren't detailed enough, but they fixed that in later games. In SMT4 and Persona 5 he has a much more leopard-like head and his fur is detailed enough to see that he has rosettes instead of plain spots.

    One of the best games the PS2 has to offer, though I would like to correct you that Nocturne was considered a financial failure (to Atlus) selling only 270k rather than the expected 350k
    But the reason why people found Nocturne difficult is the lack of usage buffs and debuffs as that's what make's Nocturnes battle's unique as there's more strategy besides throwing attacks till the thing is dead.
    Battles make you think.
    Really hope you get to Digital Devil Saga since I think it's more interesting than Nocturne story and gameplay wise.

      As a long time smt fan(whise first atlus experience waa through etrian odyssey back in 2013) the difficulty is exaggerated and harder than it really is. Not saying the game is super easy, only a few bosses can mess you up even on normal like the riders, Skadi, or girimekalah and Noah(because of them being the only 2 that put. Awrench in your melee build). Most of the difficulty comes from breaking the habits you make in rpgs outside of megaten when og Strange Journey, earlygame smt 4 and persona 2 innocent sin seem harder in comparison.

      The game can be very frustrating if you are playing it blind *and* it's your first MegaTen game. There is very little hand-holding, and you have to figure a lot out by time-consuming trial and error (in a game that's easily 80+ hours anyway). Like imagine reaching Matador where your only demon with rakukaja has a force weakness _and_ you don't even know the names of all of the buff/debuff spells, nor do you know which demons resist force or how to fuse them.

  • @talesoflizalfos661

    Yeah, outside of content that was added on well after vanilla SMT 3 (Fiends/Lucifer, especially in remaster since Lucifer was buffed in Raidou mode), I would agree. And even hard mode is mostly trivial outside of the occasional BS Mudo/Iron Claw crit ambush setting you back. Base game bosses just don't do much damage, nor do they handle any buff advantage well. As for Mot, well you can beat him in 1 turn by simply using the press turn system as intended (spam Bolt Storm).

    Something funny I like to tell people while they're around halfway through the game and they're saying "alright I think I got past the hardest parts now, man this game kicked my ass but I really liked it", I then tell them that if they're on Normal mode, the game is halving all damage they take.
    Yeah. The damage formula on Hard has damage work the same way for you and enemies, and on Normal your team takes half damage. It isn't the other way around, like a lot of people say it is! The game was designed for Hard first, then they realized "oh, shit, this is kinda fucked up" and made that Hard Mode, and created Normal.

      If you feel the need to run you're already doing something wrong. Also why do you care about pixie?

      Ah you’re right! I assume the developers accidentally fell and programmed this ending of the game, complete with credits, and mistakenly sent off hundreds of thousands of copies of the game before they could remove this error. What a crazy situation, I’ll be back to finish it soon. Hopefully I don’t make the same mistake again, I mean the true demon ending is what I want to avoid most. I heard if you get that ending, you get sent a letter of unrecognition that states as such.
