    Dear Lisa, do you also have exercises for “babies” meaning for cases where the child does not follow instructions but the strength, awareness... has to be developed “passively (without the child doing it actively)?

    • @LisaShchyhelOT
      @LisaShchyhelOT  4 года назад

      Brigitte Stangl yes :) if the child does not follow instructions or imitate the movements, there are other ways to get to work on oral motor planning. Like for example using whistles, bubbles, balloons, different massages for the face , gargling (if the child has the age and strength), chewing crunchy food, sucking foot and drinks to reinforce lips and chicks, and more :) what is really important is to identify what exactly you want or need to work on! And do it step by step :) thank you for your message!

    Hello Lisa! Thank you for all these helpful exercises. My student, has always his mouth open as a result his tongue is constantly out of his mouth. Will these exercises help him, or should Ι try something more specific? Thank you!!

    • @LisaShchyhelOT
      @LisaShchyhelOT  3 года назад +1

      Hello! Yes, this exercises will help him. Try to work on tongue stimulation, provide vibration or simply with a toothbrush or z-vine, stimulation up and down and sides of the tongue.
      Observer if he is tolerating it , if yes, continue doing this exercises plus tongue!

    Dear Lisa, I need your help. My daughter almost 6 yo, she always hold food on her mouth. She is not try to chewing her food, and always drooling. Her tongue can't move lateral left and right. What should I do for her? Which exercises is best for leteralization disorder or this problem? Thank You very much..

    • @LisaShchyhelOT
      @LisaShchyhelOT  4 года назад

      Deryana Primasanti thank you for writing. Holding food , and not awareness of chewing can be due to a poor oral motor skills, awareness and poor coordination. Before to work on chewing , she has to organize all her muscles and sensory input inside of the mouth. And once she is ok with sensory oral input/exercises, we can introduce slowly different textures and work on the food part. Before to work on food she has to master the ability of breathing, chewing, sucking and proper swallowing. I suggest you to work with an occupational therapist if you have one. If not , Don’t hesitate to contact me in Lisa-Shchyhel.com

      Hello , unfortunately I would need more information for that. Please work with a speech therapist and occupational therapist in order to help your child.
      Try to do different tactile activities to reinforce the curiosity of trying food.
      Also make sure your child is able to chew, swallow, drink, suck properly.

      Hi, join me during live every Wednesday 7:30 pm Europe time, I always answer the questions in live and can show some practical examples. Mostly you would need a chewy tube and tons of oral motor exercises: drinking from a straw, blowing a balloon, exercises that are “heavy work” for the mouth help a lot.

    What age are these exercises appropriate for? :)

    • @LisaShchyhelOT
      @LisaShchyhelOT  4 года назад +2

      Анастасія Щигель 😘 this exercises can be use from 2 yr old if the intention is to make the child do it independently :) if it’s for a child less that 2 years old- I would suggest to do the exercises in front of the child (mirror technique) to stimulate the imitation and possible interaction with the parents :)

      Work on oral stimulation. Provide different oral tools to work on it. You can use a mirror to work on tongue imitation too.

    Hi Lisa, I need ur advise. My 4 year old daughter taking very long time to complete small quantity of food. holding the food in the cheeks, not swallowing the food until the food becomes water mushy. She don't have speech related issues .she is not gaining weight due to this can you please advise me how to get rid of this issue

    • @LisaShchyhelOT
      @LisaShchyhelOT  3 года назад +1

      Hello Sukanya, it could be two reasons: 1 behavioral, she wants to call your attention, as she know this is bothering you: 2- sensory issues while swallowing and chewing: this is very common- basically I would suggest you to check good her mouth with an OT or speech’s therapist. Check her chewing skills with different chewy tubes, check her muscle tone, and then swallowing. Perhaps the amount of food it’s big, or maybe to heavy, or maybe to much for her little mouth. So you have to consider everything 🙏💪🏽 Good Luck 🍀

      Thanks for your advice Lisa. Discussed several times with her pediatrician, they are telling me it's a behavioural issue and not routing to occupational therapist. This problem is there from 15 months .now she is 4 year old . Still she is doing mouth pocketing and not eating well leads to poor weight gain 🙁

    • @LisaShchyhelOT
      @LisaShchyhelOT  3 года назад +1

      @@sukanyarupa7437 sometimes you need to check other professionals, as many times doctors and pediatricians are not the best to guide regarding feeding and behavior issues.

      @@sukanyarupa7437 Hi there, I'm a pediatric OT. If your child is having an issue with consuming the appropriate amount of food for longer than a period of 3-6 months, I would also highly suggest you consult with a pediatric OT or speech-language pathologist (SLP) who has experience with feeding therapy. It sounds like your daughter may have lower tone/strength in her mouth and may not be aware of the amount/feeling of the food and does not have the oral motor skills to combine food particles into a bolus (small ball of chewed particles) and swallow. Many pediatricians unfortunately do not have experience in this area.

      She is too little. Try to do some simple massages and stimulate the lips of you daughter. Hopefully when she will grow a bit you could use some speech therapy exercises to work on it.
      Have a look to some of my videos , and do simple and gentle massages. Fee free to contact me privately!
